CRAPPIE_SLAYER -> night walleye?? (4/29/2008 1:42:58 PM)

Anybody been wading at night for walleyes at pymatuning??  This will be the first year i'm gonna try to and was just wondering if anyone else was doing any good.  Have heard on here and from many others that it is a tough bite.  Have a few places in mind that i think are good prospects, just wondered if i had the right timing.

Most of the wading I have seen done is earlier in the year, but I am usually in the boat, so maybe not the best source for info.

You can still catch'em wading! Evening and early morning are best. Try the cove to the right of tuttle beach! It's gravel and sand with some weeds you'll catch bass if the eyes aren't in there. Good place for channels at night too!

porter

Thanks for the tip.  I'll have to give it a try this weekend. Good to hear that i might not have missed all of the action in the shallows.

For some reason I never knew there were alewifes in Pymy.  But since I learned that this year, I'll be doing some night fishing throwing topwaters like we do in lake Arthur.  It's gotta work the same in both places, I would think.

Walleye fishing has always been better at night spring and summer seasons in lakes the semi-clear to dark water i.e. pymy or wilhelm i usally only fish the south end of pymy which has a later peak season than the darker north end. Right now with the way pmmy is fish at night if you want to catch any eyes and keep the dink perchfrom creating a major problem with live bait.

My buddy caught two nice eyes off shore south of the causeway last weekend.  I didn't catch any, but another guy left with a real nice stringerfull.  Try some flashy suspending baits.

PAPounder, if you are fishing from a boat in the southern end and want walleyes you can still catch them through June most of the time. I bought back in the mid to late 1980's both versions of the pymt. Learn-a Lake system this info was very good and it still works today except I have had to switch to night fishing for more consistent results. In May the last couple of years long line trolling F11 rapalas has worked in shallower water on the long points and in a couple of the "bays" in the southern end I also catch a few tolling one to two once bottom bouncers with a crawler harness around Stockers island and that small island out from the Pa Campgound on the west side.
