OK,  Here is a question...  Have you ever broken a rod on a boat cleat?  Does anyone know of a product designed to snap over a cleat so that rods cannot slide underneath them.  Obviously the best answer is to be more careful, but six year olds will make mistakes and I would like head this one before it repeats itself and becomes an expensive practice...

dont know the setup of your boat, but imo "flush mount" cleats are the way to go.

OK??? Even I can't decipher that one.....

Anyway I have broken rods on boat cleats, mostly because of Molson Canadian. Never heard of a cover for them, but that sounds like a good idea...

I don't know if there is such a product but could you wrap electrical tape around it so a rod can't get under? You could then always remove the tape if you needed to use the cleat.

if you use a flush mount cleat it only sticks up when you use it. when its not being used it is smooth/flush.

How about a section of bycycle inner tube or something like that stretched over it. Or maybe if you've got a router you could hollow out a section of 2x4 and slide it over the cleat.

Maybe a bungie cord?
