Wooden Plug -> Shenango or Pymatuning? (4/27/2008 11:26:45 AM)

Which is better for the big slabs of Crappie?

03GruntPa -> RE: Shenango or Pymatuning? (4/27/2008 9:56:07 PM)

Fish them both, and both produce very nice numbers of slabs!

porter64 -> RE: Shenango or Pymatuning? (4/27/2008 11:38:25 PM)

Mostly fish pymy and do very well but not very familiar w/ shenango but wouldlike to fish it more. Also for stripers.

porter64 -> RE: Shenango or Pymatuning? (4/27/2008 11:38:55 PM)

Hey crappiechuck,
I assume you are talking about Kahle Lake near Knox. Do you fish it much for crappie? Do you do very well? I have caught a few there, but haven't spent a lot of time there.

countryfisher -> RE: Shenango or Pymatuning? (4/29/2008 12:14:23 PM)

I think pymatuning produces large crappies more consistantly than shenango, but I dont often catch big numbers of them... my biggest pymy crappies have come while walleye fishing lol

Bass100 -> RE: Shenango or Pymatuning? (5/1/2008 8:31:39 AM)

Anyone been to pymy lately? if so whats the water temp/level?

CRAPPIE_SLAYER -> RE: Shenango or Pymatuning? (5/1/2008 10:16:32 AM)

Was out last night. Not sure what the temp is, but the lake has dropped about 1 1/2 feet from what it started at this spring. Still hitting the shallow crappie at night.

chauncy -> RE: Shenango or Pymatuning? (5/1/2008 4:47:31 PM)

Big slabs hitting at mosquito lake.

one great outing at pymy this year. slabs of crappies like you would not belive. went back the weekend after and caught nothing but a cold. I really dont no how to answer tha because we fish shenango more.

crappiechuck -> RE: Shenango or Pymatuning? (5/6/2008 9:05:55 AM)

Chatauqua has the biggest crappies in the NE.

CRAPPIE_SLAYER -> RE: Shenango or Pymatuning? (5/6/2008 9:09:53 AM)

After last night I would have to say pymy.  Nice slabs 12"-14" were hitting pretty good.[:)]

crappiechuck -> RE: Shenango or Pymatuning? (5/6/2008 1:39:58 PM)

Hey these 2 bodies of water arent that far apart. Dig a canal connect the two and we can call it the Pymanango.

I've been hitting Chautauqua pretty hard the last couple of weeks.  I've caught a couple real monsters, but they are back in deeper water staging for that 60 degree water...still catching them shallow, but mostly smaller males...the hefty ladies are being coy in 12-15' water...for now.
The locals are saying this is the best year for slabs (or calico as they call them) in 25 years.
