Chicken it would make an awesome gun, but beware the ammo is getting rediculously high priced for the 10's. I still wouldn't trade mine in, but just so you know.

Maga in 1996 I was shooting 3 in. 12 ga. put 3 rounds in the first one all from inside 25 yards, he ran then eventually flew away. Put 2 in the second one inside 20 he ran off (I think that one died but I looked for 2 days and couldn't find it). I hit one twice flying that I didn't get and I leveled one in his tracks on the last day, only to have him outrun me after he came to his senses. I bought my 10 ga that week. Man that was a bad season. That wasn't some crap 12 ga either. I had that baby patterend well.

My Beretta 12, 3 inch knocks them down! Have hit one that ran off. It all depends on a head shot.

Currently my set up is: Benelli M-1 12 ga w/ Hastings XXfull ported turkey choke, Winchester Supreme 3", 6 shot.

I've NEVER had a one run away after I shot it and I've been killin turkeys for 28 years.

Still out scoutin for my daughter, the only gobbles I am hearin is 3 maybe 4 on the roost, then the woods go silent.

Didn't get to go out today had to take the kids to school.One of my buddys went to his sister farm.He called in two 9 inch gobblers he shoot the one at twenty yards. He said they gobble over 100 times from roost and will on the ground.He also said when they were coming they were doubling and tripling gobbles.Some have better spots then me i guess i can't hear none gobble not even on roost.

I haven't heard any on roost or on the ground. Last week I heard a hen yelp, and she went unanswered. If the longbeards wont talk to the real hens, what chance have I got?

It's usually the same thing every year at this time. For a month before season they heard a truck roar up and stop followed by a owl hoot or loud calling, a door slam and truck roar away or else people running around calling them in and educating them. Then for two weeks they have been bombarded with owl hoots, phony crow calls and every time they gobbled someone was trying to get them to go to a fake hen call rather than the hen going to them. They have been scared off the roost, shot at and hit, missed or killed every time they opened their mouth and generally harrassed every day. The loud ones or dumb ones have been killed or crippled and even a pea brained survivor realizes that something isn't right. Add that to the fact the breeding season is winding down, and even though half the hens are on the nest there are only a few gobblers left to service what are left it makes for tough hunting. The good news is some of the best birds are killed this time of the year and if we get some hot weather (hi 70's to 80's) the remaining hens will have to start nesting and the gobblers will be hot for a few days. There is still some gobbling but just not like the first week. Compare it to the second week of buck season.

Their there. Had one come in to me without a noise. Caught me with my pants down. The whole time a hen was clucking and talking to me. This was Sat. As I was walking out at 11:30 one flew out of a tree. What was that all about? I would say if you could get between them at the roost and the feed bag would be a good setup , with no calling.

I'am done with the second one--20# 9-1/2" 1"-- Two of them gobbled a lot with the crows and flew down right to me. Can still work with my grandson and fishin buddy but no longer have to lug the 10ga around.

Old man went today by himself sat there till 8:30 he had to met me at the garage at 9:00.He said at 8:00 he heard a shot a 100 tards in front of him.So he went to see if someone shoot one off of the road but they didn't not.Two younger guys were hunting the property to will they were walking back to the truck they shoot one.It was a 10 1/4 20# 1 spur bird.The old man was a little bit pissed but it was the boy first bird so he congrated him.

Finally, I got one to gobble. He went off about 20 times from the roost, at least I assume he was roosted because he never seemed to move and this started about 6 AM this morning. I'd yelp, and he'd gobble a couple times, then I'd wait 15 minutes and repeat the process, or sometimes, he'd sound off just to let me know he was still interested. Finally, about 7:00, he gobbled twice more and it sounded slightly different, so I assumed he was on the ground. After that, not a sound. Never saw him, and dont know which way he went. Didn't see or hear another bird all morning. Do they stay on roost that long, or was this bird just hung up somewhere? The first hour or so was really gloomy, and I thought it may start raining any minute. Maybe the weather kept him up in the tree longer. I dont know.

Hunted Friday from 8 to around 10:30, nothin all day, leave for work around 11, 1 struttin in a field where i called from not even 50 or so minutes before that, these birds are just lame anymore.

Danes -- sounds to me like a typical late season hunted bird that wanted some lovin but was smart enough not to come down until a hen came close enough for him to see. About all you can do is wait him out and hope no hen shows. Caution-- often these type birds, when they do come down will come in silent and may even circle behind you.

Well-- my fishin buddy is done. Set up before daylight on a steep ridge and never heard a sound. Just about fly down time I yelped softly twice and immediately got some yelps back. Five minutes later two gobblers and a hen flew within 35 yards and walked in to 15 yards. Show was over. Try again with the grandson next.

I don't how u do it we had a hen walk by us at 5 yards.We never heard a gobble.Only 5 days left what can i try to get the old man one?I never saw such tight lipped toms before.

If you know there are gobblers in the area set up before daylight, call softly and sparingly, don't move for at least an hour at each call site, assume he is coming in quiet, and may be behind or off to the side of you. If you do hear a gobble or two stay put as long as you can.

There's always next year danesdad.I struggled most of this season also.I did have the best hunt of my life when my daughter killed that longbeard do.When our hunt come in it was me or another guys screwed me up all the time but most of the time i set up wrong.Oh well maybe next year good luck to you danesdad i hope you score.

Persistence finally paid off this morning, shot a 21 lb gobbler with 9 1/2 inch beard and 1 inch spurs. Bird flew down at 5:45 and came in about 2 minutes later.

Thanks! It was very early, considering I havn't heard any birds this year even begin to gobble in the roost before that time. He started around 5:30.

Well, it's over now. I didnt even get to go out last week (work). I didn't get a bird this year, but I had a lot of fun. I found some new places to hang a deer stand, and I got to get out in the woods at a real nice time of year. Nothing wrong with that. It was another good season here. I hunted with a couple older fellows and my grandson and we had a total of 10 birds close enough to kill. Several went away educated. Hate to see the season end although will admit to being whipped. Now it's nothing but yard work and ball games until archery season. Hope the dispersing bucks don't all walk out in front of a car. Sure are a bunch getting whacked. Have 5 jakes at my bird feeder. Next years crop of long beards. Life is good.
