Some of the guys on here have posted pics of the wild trout they have caught on different streams. I personally have enjoyed them quite a bit. If anyone else has pics of wild trout, whether they be brook, brown or rainbow, please post them for all to see. If you wanna post the stream you caught them in, great... If not just seeing the pics will be great.

I like seeing pics of real trout on here. At least I like it a lot more than seeing Barry and Cathy Beck's pictures of Cathy holding up the spring ridge clubs hatchery tards for the camera, in flyfisherman magazine.

Now that is one pretty brookie! Amazing how big their mouths are compared to their body size. Seems the wild brookies in smaller streams have bigger heads as compared to body size than hatchery raised fish. Perhaps its a food shortage? That is one big white sucker! Never quite mastered the intentional catching of suckers. When I try to catch them on purpose I can't, when I don't try to catch them I do.

They are both from the Little J last friday, I saw Drake so he knows where they are from, I guess at one time they were hatchery tards. They have been in there long enough for me to consider them "wild".

Nice fish Chris. Did you get them on the flys I gave you?

BTW, those arent hatchery tards, they look as wild as any fish could. Nice pics!

Maybe we can call them feral trout? HAHA But they sure are pretty especially that bottom one! Is there any natural reproduction in the Little J or is it completely maintained by fingerling stockings? Even a brown trout that was stocked one spring, somehow survives the onslaught of anglers to make it to the following year, really gets a wild edge to it, so any brown trout stocked as a 3-4" fingerling would be as close to wild as you can get by the time it is 12" long in my humble opinion.

I have lived in Huntingdon County for the past 2 years and I primarily fish the the little j. I believe I have caught some native fish before, but for the most part all are stocked fish. I know many people do not want to give up their "secret spots", but if anyone would like to tell me where I could go near by to catch mainly wild trout it would be greatly appreciated.

Gentlemen,
While there are many trout in the J that are stocked, there are some that are wild. There are many small feeder streams that feed into the J and at certain times they can have many spawning trout in them. I'll never tell where the streams are or which ones but just walk from Bellwood to Spruce and look at the number of small streams you see. Some, which look no bigger than runoff ditches, are actually spring fed and run small and cold all year.
Also remember that the J was a dead river from Bellwood down due to pollution untill the late 60's when it was cleaned up and a local fishing club experimentally stocked it with some browns. So if you want wild, or semi-wild fish may I suggest the stretch of the river from Grazierville to where the Bald Eagle (little) dumps in. Fish slow and deep, with muddlers and woolies. Sometimes with a marabou leech in dark red. If you are catching little fish on the surface at the head or tail of a pool; go big and go deep in the pool. There is some good surface fishing on the flat water above grazierville to Tipton. If you do go deep try a crawfish pattern, (about 2" long). Let me know how you do. My personal best was a 28 inch brown taken behind the junkyard in 1974. It was returned to the river.

Yeah, I doubt there are many guys willing to give up their secret wild trout holes. Doesn't take much to over fish these gems. I kinda figured there was some natural reproduction in the Little J. There are enough small feeder streams to provide at least a little limited natural reproduction. From what I understand, it is not just the successful laying and hatching of the eggs, but also small trout need very specific requirements most streams do not provide to protect them from predation. Big brown trout are nasty predators of little brown trout. I have seeen more than one large pickerel in the Little J also, so I am sure it would have no problem sucking down a 4" wild brown trout for dinner. Keep up the good wild trout pic posts! The most unusual wild trout I have seen are they sea run brook trout that my dad used to catch on Long Island, NY. Many will go over 4 lbs. They spend their first 2 years in the coastal spring fed streams on Long Island, then when they are about 6" they venture down stream to the ocean where they gorge on the bounty it offers. I have also heard there is a unique wild brook trout fishery in Lake Michigan. Lake run brook trout spawn in the feeder streams of Lake Michigan and then run out into the lake to fatten up.

Yeah in massasachussets there is a very and i mean VERY small population of sea run brook trout coasters, every now and then as a kid growing up in new england we would visit grandma on the cape,and my grandfather would take us to the herring run and i remember catching a few in my dip net some were over 18 in long but they were cool looking later on i purposely targeted them and in 6 years caught 2 but seen several other more succesful anglers who fished it reguraly and did quite well.

Pretty little brown trout! I should have taken a close up of the one wild brown trout I caught on Yellow Creek last week. It was gorgeous!

You sure get some mileage out of that picture! LOL. Anyways I can't believe that you chimed in on a wild trout post! WE all know that you an undereducated, beer guzzling, one toothed, lazy, oprah-watching, nose pickin', bluegrass listening, mullet wearing, camaro fanatic, stock truck chasing, pellet head fisherman!

Don't even attempt to lead us to believe that you actually know how to fish for wild trout!

There are plenty of wild browns in the Little J. I don't think stocking fingerlings in there is necessary at all. There were plenty of wild trout in the river before the PFBC fingerling stockings. I think they've been there all along, since brown trout were introduced into PA.

This cold/rain/wind is driving me freaking nuts! I'm tired of waiting, but toward this weekend looks promising.

Here's a suggestion....leave your worms at home when fishing for wild trout....period!!!

I have still been fishing almost every night, I'm getting sick of tossing streamers and nymphs though. The surface activity has certainly been sub-par for the most part, for this time of year anyhow. My hopes will remain high, the weatherman says its gonna be nice for the next few days.
