I saw a different article in a different paper a while ago. I forget which paper it was, but supposedly he stocked the fish himself from the stocking truck. Im pretty sure thats what one paper said I have to look. I dont think it should be a record.

I'd have to agree.

So, the state raises state record size fish, stocks them in the creek to be caught a couple weeks laters, and they are considered a record?  Sounds extremely artificial to me.

Yeap, I mentioned this on the southwest board the day of and got flamed for it.  I don't see how the state can raise a record fish in the hatchery, then put it in the creek and say sure thing, that's a record.  And people can save that "then there'd be no records because all fish are hatchery fish in PA", because that's bs.  Bass aren't stocked at 11 pounds, they don't put 20 lb steelhead in Walnut creek in November.

Also the "he still had to catch it" argument is pretty weak too.  It's a hatchery trout and it has to eat.  A fish that size and that color stands out like a sore thumb and before the end of thatday, someone was going to catch that fish.

If that was in a lake and I could justify that perhaps it's been in there since it was 11 inches, I would be more ok with it.  I just feel it's a little cheapened due to the circumstances.

Is it a great catch?  Sure.  Would I be elated and plaster my picture all over the place? Yes I would.  Would I apply for a record?  Probably.  But I'm disappointed in the commission for putting that fish in a creek.  It should be in a aquarium somewhere or should of been stocked last summer or fall.

Smallie Killer you bring up serveral very valid arguments.  I saw a huge pal at yellow creek that got stocked and within 10 minutes was on a stringer.  PA should just do away with the first day of trout altogether and not announce stockings like other states.  I mean its cool the guy caught a record fish, but why not give the darn thing a chance at getting into a good hole and more importantly gathering the satisfaction of working for a smart fish. Just my opinion.

Does anyone know if it's mandatory for a record fish to be euthanized?  I understand there are circumstances that somtimes cant permit keeping a fish alive when thinking you have a record, but I was just wondering..

The problem with not announcing the stockings is that PFBC doesn't have the manpower to do it without the volunteers.

Some of the guys that come help are only there to help so they can see where all the big pallies, tigers and large breeders are put. They help carry it dump in a bucket and then run to the truck to get their rod. That's total BS in my book..Takes a real fisherman to follow the stock truck around and beat up half starved fish..They(large pellet fed trout) gotta be about the worst eating fish in the water.

If nobody knows when they are dumping trout in, then who cares if they are all in one spot?  chances are they will spread out before anyone even sees them anyways.  You are forgetting about all the people that don't wear polarized glasses or don't walk.  Iv'e seen these people pass up piles of fish before.

I wont complain with what we have, but these are just my suggestions to increase some of the angling opprotunities that most PA trout streams have.  Meadow run for example, this stream in the DH has potential to hold some serious, serious amounts of big fish for years, but the PFBC just doesn't have the ability to make it down through the entire stream.  If we didnt announce, they could dump some fish in the faster water, and bam, gaurantee every pocket you fish would hold a trout.  Instead, people dump them in a few places, then sit there and hammer retarded stockies.

It could be worse, look at Ohio. They only stock 80,000 fish and none are put in streams !!!

I know for sure that when their dumping the fish off the bridge that is it. catch what you want, after that it is the rewards of the c-r guys that let you take home more slimmy fish.

Stocked trout shouldn't even have a page in the record books. Its like when guys pay 5 grand to hunt on a deer farm then brag about thier giant buck, pleeeeease.

Many off the fish in this state are not indigenous....so many are or were stocked at one time.

I'd bet none were stocked as record fish, and were dumped in front of someone out of a bucket. Are any of the trout records from non-bucketheads? Just wondering.

The record Brown, and Steelhead were both returnees from lake Erie. Neither were stocked as anything near record size fish. The record Brookie, was determined to be a "breeder" washed down from the hatchery during a flood. The previous record "golden" was caught IN lake Erie. Very possibley stocked at or, near that size in a tributary, but far from easy pickings.
