This is what i'm after.  The rivers and tribs are starting to fish good.  Plenty of bass and walleye moving up to spawn...

PAJAY -> RE: While everyone else is trout fishing... (4/17/2008 7:46:57 PM)

what you get him on ??  If I could catch them like that I wouldn't be fishing for trout either !

gobyking -> RE: While everyone else is trout fishing... (4/17/2008 7:53:55 PM)

You are one of the growing amount of anglers who avoids the fishing day for drunken, ignorant,or once a year people known as first day of trout.Good for you and that eye will eat a whole lot better than a hatchery trout.

I'm sure he put them all back right away, waiting for May 3rd to keep any...

Nice fish by the way.  Any nice bass too?

gobyking -> RE: While everyone else is trout fishing... (4/17/2008 8:06:37 PM)

OOPS! You are correct porktown,I'm just very hungry and nothing would taste better right now the that walleye.

avidangler -> RE: While everyone else is trout fishing... (4/17/2008 8:07:48 PM)

Yeah he went back.  I wouldn't of kept it if the season was is either.  I'm not a big fan of eating river walleye, but fishing for them is another thing.  The bass have all been 12 to 14 inches but real real fat.  Rapalas is what they've all come on, perch pattern about 4 inches long.

PAJAY -> RE: While everyone else is trout fishing... (4/17/2008 8:11:58 PM)

I don't know what any of them rivers are called up their but is that the same one that goes through apollo ? I was told theirs a lot of walleye in their .

Kokanee Killer -> RE: While everyone else is trout fishing... (4/17/2008 8:13:04 PM)

ANGLER, always watch your background, and such lots of folks will want to jump the bandwagon lol[:D]

PAJAY -> RE: While everyone else is trout fishing... (4/17/2008 8:32:38 PM)

No bandwagon jumping here smack . just making conversation .

shemanese -> RE: While everyone else is trout fishing... (4/17/2008 9:09:28 PM)

PAJAY, The river that goes through Apollo is the Kiskiminetas or the Kiski as some folks like to call it. It was named by the same people that named the Youghiogheny thus the difficult spelliing and strange pronunciation. I don't know if that's where the dude got the walleye or not but thought I would pass along some information I find interesting. I always thought Kiskiminetas meant something like Sun River but Wiki says there are several different meanings.

avidangler -> RE: While everyone else is trout fishing... (4/17/2008 9:09:41 PM)

Your talking about the kiski river and no its not but the kiski does have fish but everyone knows about them.  Its get hit hard in the spring and fall at the mouth where it meets the allegheny.

Carphead -> RE: While everyone else is trout fishing... (4/17/2008 9:34:10 PM)

Walleye are good for one thing: eating. They are dismal fighters at best, kinda like a wet sock. Never understood the fascination with catching those things. Try fishing for stuff most call "garbage fish" because those are the ones that put up the awesome fights and aren't always very easy to catch. If more people targeted so called "garbage fish", they would get a hell of a lot better at fishing.

Porktown -> RE: While everyone else is trout fishing... (4/17/2008 9:51:06 PM)

12-14" fat smallies in current sounds like a good time to me.  Not that a 15lb channel cat wouldn't be fun in some current either.  Walleye are strange creatures, sometimes they'll fight, other times they swim right in.  Trust me, I'd pose for a pic with one that size though.  Hopefully have some pics on Sunday!!

Mikastorm -> RE: While everyone else is trout fishing... (4/17/2008 9:59:21 PM)

Very nice fish! Were there still eggs in it?

Carphead -> RE: While everyone else is trout fishing... (4/17/2008 10:02:35 PM)

You'd catch me posing with a picture of a huge Sheepshead, or better yet a River Carpsucker that was fair hooked before I would pose with a big walleye. How many guys can say they targeted and actually fair hooked a Carpsucker? How many pics of guys holding one of those beauts have you fellas seen? Now tell me how many pics of guys holding a walleye you've seen? Countless I'm sure. Nice picture though Avid. I'm not knocking the picture or the fisherman holding the fish, so hold off on the whining and complaining those who disagree with my comments.

Carphead -> RE: While everyone else is trout fishing... (4/17/2008 10:04:15 PM)

I'd venture to say thats probably a male Mika.

Porktown -> RE: While everyone else is trout fishing... (4/17/2008 10:12:20 PM)

Not sure what a carpsucker is, but caught a (guessing) 20lb buffalo carp on a hares ear nymph.  I was pleasantly surprised.  Not taking a picture, would have involved me touching it...  Sorry man, I hate touching those things.  Makes your hands stink for a few days.  Also caught a 20lb guessing again, drum that I did pick up to see how heavy it really was.  It was about twice the size of the largest one that I had ever seen prior.  Got that on a live gizard shad.  One of the largest fresh water fish that I caught, which is cool.  I wish that I got one of the drum.  They don't seem to be as slimy.

Carphead -> RE: While everyone else is trout fishing... (4/17/2008 10:21:59 PM)

A buffalo carp? You sure you don't mean a smallmouth buffalo? Talk about a cool fish, I catch those mainly from Jan. to about now. Seems they are a little easier to locate when the river is swelling.

Porktown -> RE: While everyone else is trout fishing... (4/18/2008 8:24:29 AM)

I wasn't sure of the exact name.  Dark color with a pretty big head, small mouth with fat lips.  I saw them for sale at Wholey's as something buffalo.  Not a bad fight, but slimed my line.  Definitely a surprise while mostly getting smaller white bass.  It didn't rip line, so I knew it wasn't a wiper, but had some fight to it.  For it's size, it wasn't all that much of a fight, but wasn't a log.

Carphead -> RE: While everyone else is trout fishing... (4/18/2008 9:49:39 AM)

Porktown, sounds like a smallmouth buffalo. Did it look like this? They are often mistaken for carp or suckers.
