Has anyone been catchin smallies on the Allegheny. I am taking a float trip tomorrow from Starbrick down to Tideoute. I know that they are hitting hairjigs, tubes, and suspended jerkbaits -( per Jeff Knapp ) but, I would like to hear if anyone else has givin it a shot. Thanks guys. Hey Chugbug - long time no see.

River is pretty high now and water cold.  Might have better luck with trout from dam down.

middle has been doing good.  much to the south of where you are floating.  caught 5  between 15-19 inches on flukes fished real slow on friday before trout. actually saw jeff out in his boat saturday too after we got in from the stream, fishing in front of our place.  he seems to frequent my stretch a lot.

I was out Monday evening for a couple hours, water is still suprisingly cold at 45 degrees but the fish are biting. I caught 7 in a fairly short amount of time, all on suspending jerkbaits fished with pauses around 5 seconds long. Driving past the river today I noticed it has dropped a little since Monday and cleared some so it should be ON this weekend.

SmallieAngler, Thanks for the lowdown. If you don't mind me asking, what stretch do you fish. I am looking for a new drift closer to home and hopefully more productive. I think I blew 70 dollars in gas running around up in the tideoute neck of the woods. All that we caught on our drift Thurs. were Walleye's on x-raps. We threw jigs, flukes, finese shaky head worms, craw pappi's, tubes, cranks, spinnerbaits, grubs and even in-line spinners. I did have a couple nice bass follow my bandit 200 to the canoe. What is the water temp that you are getting where you fish? We simply pound the fish in the area that I fish when the weather is warmer but, being from Ohio, I am interested in finding somewhere on the river more South. I appreciate your help. Earthquaker

Earthquaker, you don't say where home is but there are some nice drifts between the Franklin area south to Parker.  A new outfitter is at Parker and will take you north to float back.  If you have two vehicles, there are several opportunities between those two towns that are usually very productive.

kayak99 - thanks for the info. You have been helpful towards me in the past and I appreciate it. I live in Champion Ohio which is basically Warren so, Franklin is much closer than running dang near up to the dam. Thanks for the tip about the outfitter also. That will be something that I will surely utilize. Good luck on the water Brother.

Earthquaker, glad to help.  There is also an outfitter in Emlenton. It was for sale but I went by there Sunday and saw boats still sitting on the bank so he must be in operation.  That's even closer to you than Parker (you can just take I-80 to the Emlenton exit) and it's a nice drift down to Emlenton (not certain where they put you in) with lots of riffles.  Some of my favorite spots.

kayak99, isn't there a place in President that rents canoes also? Driving through President I swear I remember seeing a sign for canoe rentals, somewhere near Turtle Bay Lodge?

There was a guy along Rt 62 next to the river that rented canoes but last time I rode my bike past there I didn't see his boats so I am not certain he's still in business.  Fox Run Rentals (814) 677-4092 is listed for Tionesta though.  Not sure if that's the same guy or not.

I belong to several different sites and forums in Ohio and you guys are the best. There is no attitude with you guys. Even though I'm from Ohio and like the Browns[:D] You guys are so helpful. Its pretty nice to get an idea of whats going on before you drive two hours to get there. Wait till I buy a camp up there somewhere, then you guys will be sorry. Ha

i fish the belmar are in cranberry to fair success , waters alittle cold yet , but some warm weather ill be hitting it everyday, always catch tons

This is the guy just north of turtle bay.  I believe he is still open.

I dont know if I mentioned that I do have a nice SportsPal canoe. I was interested in the outfitters or rental places to utilize thier shuttle services because I go alone alot. If anyone of you guys that have chimed in want to go with me - I usually have an empty seat. The sportspal is very stable and I put nice swivel seats on it. I power it with a nice Minn Kota so we can stay in current, go back up current or just zoom by dead water. Of course you have to paddle sometimes. Just remember, as long as I dont have my kids with me - anyone of you guys are welcome.

eh its so so.  sometimes its amazing, sometimes its terrible.  most of the deeper pools are good.  bucktail/curlytail/tube jigs are the trick.  I know some guys that nail them year round, but I would definitely say the smallmouth fishing is better.

I'm quite familiar with the river from Parker to Lock 9, below East Brady.  There is some awesome small mouth fishing in this stretch of the river.  Alot of good musky also.  Lock 9 is a good spot for some nice walleye.

Thanks Quantumman. I asked a question and I feel like I just got a whole college course back in answers, which is awesome. Even though I knew that the bass fishing was better South of where I was, I always fished around the Tideoute/Tionesta area. Mostly because I have some friends up in that area. I am definitly hitting the areas that you guys have told me about this year. I take it you use Quantum gear - what reels do you use and do you like em? I went from Abu Garcia to Quantum in '95 and I simply love their stuff.

I also use quantum . Always liked any spinning reel with 8 ball bearings or better they have extremely efficient & smooth action / front drag. I fish so much ; I usually burn up a 30-60$ reel every 2-3 years so if you ever need parts for a quantum spinning reel inquire . Got atleast 6 old syle hypercasts sitting around plus others that have the bearings destroyed from stripers , steel , smallies ect  . I believe they have the best efficiency when compared to price.

Dream Catcher - I see you are from Chicora. Maybe we have ran into each other. I play drums for the Earthquakers and we have done some nice shows for the Chicora Fire Dept. I have talked fishing with a couple of guys at those shows. I guess we're gonna be doing another one soon.
