I've been having a problem with this type of line and it's driving me nuts!!!!
After adding new line and after fishing with the line I get all kind of corkscrew turns in the line. NOT twists, but pigtails in the line. I'm using Berkley Vanish 2lb and 4lb test. I've put MILES of line on reels and never encountered this problem. Is it something with fluorocarbon line? It seems that it has no memory. Any sugestions....other than go back to regular mono.??

I've heard bad things things about Berkely Vanish. I don't think its the flouro thats the trouble, I think its the brand. Try a different kind like P-line or suffix.

I'm using Vanish 2# for the first time this year and have absolutely no complaints at all, it's been terrific for me and my ultralight ways.  Perhaps when you reeled the line on for the first time, you were twisting it as it went on the spool?  I remember reading something in the instructions about making sure this didn't happen...

My only partial gripe is that the line really does vanish for me, and I cant tell where my lures are in the water by watching the little disturbance where the line enters the water!

fluoro has issues with
brittleness, looping and kinking, also knot strength

i've ditched it in favor of courtland cammo for leader material

a lot of fluoro line is stiff and does not wind onto spinning reels well.  some of the neweer stuff is better.  i use a few feet of fluoro as a leader tied onto something like powerpro or pline or fireline.  that way i get the strentgh, no-line twist, and visibility of the braid but the invisibility of the fluoro

I use vanish and love it...never has given me a problem

berkley 100% flouro is about the best i've used to date. out of about 6 different kinds of flouro.

I use Yozuri Ultra Soft and P-Line Fluoro when I'm not using Power Pro Braid with success, I have no reason to stray from my regulars

Thanks for all the insight and suggestions. I was just curious if I was the only one having problems with corkscrew in my line or if it was an inherant thing with Vanish. Even when I put the hook in the keeper on the rod at the spot where the line bent at the top eye I get a crook in the line. I may have to resort to Plan "B". All i got to do now is figure out what Plan "B" is. Thanks again .

Run mono or braid as your main line tie a leader to a swivel or adjoin the lines . Fluoro abraises , knicks easier than most lines and I believe it to have a worse memory than mono  . I use P-line fluro 6lb for trout & 20 lb for walleye , king salmon with great success. Also with fluro wet the line prior to clinching any knot , store line out of heat , sunlight , I've even heard that the freezer will make it last forever but I am leary of doing that ? LOL

The guys telling you to use a floro leader are right on!  Fire line in smoke is great for jig worms(shaky heads) and other light line applications .U must use a floro leader in clear water.  Also, use rods w/ more moderate actions when using light line for when u hook a big one!

Its best to use a 3ft leader. we use 20 - 30 lb line and it works great

I've used the Berkley for a few years and have had no problems with the line twists.  I did have a problem with getting broken off last year by stripers/catfish at first strike even with 10 lb test and the drag set.  Then I read last month in In Fisherman that it's not advisable to use flourocarbine with topwater baits due to low knot strength.  So I switched my topwater rods to regular mono or braided line.  Still like the flouro for the trout and walleye though.
