ZoomZoom -> Lower Allegheny River (4/14/2008 10:26:33 AM)

I plan to get the boat out on the river this weekend.  I am fairly new to this area and use to saltwater Chesapeake Bay fishing.  I fished several times last year in the Allegheny from Fox Chapel up to the Kiski River with very little luck.  Clearly I am doing something wrong.  I tried every kind of live bait, bucktails, plastics, you name it.  It must be where I am fishing or I am not maneuvering the boat properly relative to the current...No idea as I landed many large bass and pike at Arthur, Deep Creek, and Yough Reservoir...River fishing is something I have not been able to crack.

Any advice on techniques, favorable pools would be great.  Will try to focus on getting Walleye this weekend.

i think the main technique is making sure you on or close to bottom.  10 - 12 ft of water should do you good.  also look for rocks and boulders or depressions (holes) in main river sections.
