DaGman -> Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (4/14/2008 5:53:30 AM)

So did anybody do any good, don't see any news nor postings concerning peters & i'm quite sure people were there, hopefully will be going in the next week or 2 at the least, i like to wait until all the knuckleheads are outta the way & with knowing the creek fairly decent i can usually pull some out, so time is no issue.

bennyhanna -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (4/14/2008 6:46:50 AM)

I hesitantly went down around 10 on opening day after getting some chores done at home...

and saw beer bottles and bobbers and deep sea rods and a few families actually enjoying themselves and i then thought to myself...

what the f*ck am i doing here...  if my wife wasn't so pregnant and ready to pop i could've gone to the mountains for some real streams... [>:]

anyways still landed 4 stocked trout and a smallie in about an hour and then left to do something productive...

went down again sunday morning though and was able to fish the holes i wanted and the smaller crowd didn't show up till aroun 9:30 - 10...  creek was slower fishing wise that i thought but i did stay up along the walking path all morning...

razmatazz05 -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (4/14/2008 7:54:29 AM)

landed 5 in 2 hours saturday right before dark.  the earlier crowds left a path of destruction at the bigger holes i stoppped off at.  i hate when i find pieces of branches stuck in the mud along the banks used by the meat hunters to prop up their rods so they can BS with their buddy about deer season while a little trout takes a month to get the whole night crawler down before the guy realizes to set the hook, which by that time the hook is throat deep in the little stocked trout...  every time i see those i pull them out and chuck them into the woods.  (the Y shaped branch parts)  that's carp style fishing, not trout fishing, with 2 ounces of weight, 40 pound test and a half pound of night crawler.  atleast those types wont fish more than a few weeks.  also saw a ton of line in trees, bobbers in trees the size of tennis balls, the usual night crawler containers, etc.  my rant is over.

fisherofmen376 -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (4/14/2008 11:37:30 AM)

wow, ive never actually seen anyone complain about the Y-branches people prop up rods with.
I don't think there's anything wrong with using a little twig to sit your rod on-IF you are planning on keeping the fish.
If you aren't, then it might be better to hold the rod so the fish doesn't get gut-hooked.

PeteM -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (4/14/2008 11:52:44 AM)

I avoided fishing it this weekend. I'm not into the crowd stuff. I will be going down about an hour though.

PeteM -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (4/14/2008 6:39:21 PM)

Well, that went good. Hit a hole up on piney fork and got a nice rainbow, moved down about 100 yds and got another. Both were a good size and very lively. A guy just down from me at the first hole was doing good too. He brought 2 to hand, both in very good condition.

DaGman -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (4/16/2008 5:46:18 AM)

Good to hear peters is doing so-so at least, well still trying to get my brother-in-law to find some free time to go, once my sister is done with giving him chores around the house to do, lol.

jackq -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (4/16/2008 9:48:34 AM)

Tell your brother-in-law that the chores will still be there.....the fish on the hand may not be.....

SmallieKiller -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (4/16/2008 3:13:30 PM)

Fished it on Saturday from like 1-4 or so, laned 6 on panther martins and pin minnows.  Fished it Sunday morning around 7:30-11.  Landed another 6.  Sledding was much harder on Sunday, had to slow down the presentation and the fish were all deep.  All fish, save one, were caught on white sucker spawn.  dropped a few as well.  Had to work for them though, sometimes 20 drifts before a hit.

flyfishermanPA -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (8/7/2008 12:11:45 AM)

razmatazz I can't agree with you more I absolutely hate the bait fisherman! Not all, but the typical guy who leaves his beer cans behind and he feels like its his right to dump all his powerbait into the water. You know what F*ck em. Power to the fly fisherman!

aranbp -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (8/7/2008 9:16:59 AM)

Thats nice.

Ax -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (8/7/2008 9:26:52 AM)

I was thinking the same thing.  Gotta love idiots aranbp.

Flyfisherman I guess people with fly poles never litter then!  You are quite the tool my man.  But keep doing what you do.  As I will keeping chunking bait every time out.

Better yet when you see someone litter why not speak up to them and inform them of what they did.  Or better yet pick up after them.  Have you done the stream clean up at Peters before?

Split Shot -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (8/7/2008 10:29:28 PM)

I know you are trying to be funny, but you need to edit this post. If not, I hope the Moderator will take care of it!

razmatazz05 -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (8/8/2008 11:41:20 AM)

interesting stuff.  littering-bad.  it annoys me, esp since i have helped clean the stream, not with the club when they've done it, but on my own anytime i see crap laying around.   and i have helped stocked numerous times.  i also do not condone the language used by some on here.[:@]  i have nothing against bait fishing, just hold the rod in your hand so u can set the hook when you get a hit.  i was camping in upstate NY this past weekend, and there was a nice little pond with bass and panfish.  it had tons of dead bluegills around, i'm guessing from people doing something similar.

It would'nt of been possibly from the bluegills/sunfish being overpopulated? Seen that happen on many a lake & pond.

aranbp -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (8/9/2008 12:29:15 AM)

Yes I can not stand littering.  I usually leave with a bag of trash wherever I am at.  I bait/spin fish.  I leave nothing behind.  I also can not stand it. How hard is it to take what you bring.  Pure Lazy.  I also do everything I can to return a fish to the water so that it survived.  I just do not like the attitude and the wording of some.  I bait fish some  flyfish that does not make either better than anybody because of what you fish with.

Ditto aranbp, we clean up everytime we leave the stream up there & make good use of the several trashcans located along the streams parking lot/pull off areas.

flyfishermanPA -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (8/14/2008 5:22:35 PM)

Ax, first off its called a fly rod, not a fly pole. Second I don't hate all bait fisherman. I'm sure you dislikes many people who litter and what not while fishing. Only from person experience have I found fly fisherman are more willing to show up to cleanings and bring a trash bag along. Your guess is as good as mine why. And for cleaning up, yes. I go to every cleaning of the lakes I fish most. Normally I bring a trash bag and fill it with it every outing. Sorry I riffled your feathers....

flyfishermanPA -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (8/14/2008 5:29:47 PM)

Secondly yes theres always exceptions to everything. I'm sure some fly fisherman are litters, and some bait fisherman clean up and do best for the envirement. But, I'd say, the 20 or 30 percent of bait fisherman just don't care and in the words of a fellow fisherman are "meat huggers". You know, the guy who goes out twice a year and brings a cooler full of soda and sandwiches. He'll leave trash, sure. Look at the shorelines. At the lake I most commonly fish its littered with stuff. I have only seen 3 fly fisherman there, 1 being a close friend.

PeteM -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (8/14/2008 8:08:22 PM)

 I noticed something this past year. There was an awesome turn-out and effort at Peters creek before this years opener, and there has also been very little trash this year.

It's nice to see that people became invested in the well being of the area, which translates to less littering and a nicer creek all the way around.

DaGman -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (8/16/2008 12:28:08 PM)

Amen Pete, hopefully we can keep our little jem like that for alonggggggggggggggg time.

Loomis -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (8/17/2008 9:03:25 AM)

This stream is about 5 feet from my girlfriends house, worth fishing during summer or no?

PeteM -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (8/17/2008 11:29:15 AM)

It's a tough call. I like chasing the carp around and trying to catch them. I haven't even made it down to where the smallmouth may be yet.

Between casting challenges and opportunity, I'd say sure, it's well worth a shot. The trout are probably very few and far between at this point though.

I'm going to tie up a couple of buggers and head down to the stretch around 51/Jefferson a little later.

Yea i agree PeteM, the trout just seemingly aren't there this summer, for years & years i was always able to still catch trout outta peters well into the summer, matter of fact, you might as well say year round. But, for whatever reason, this year it's just not the same, not to say that there in there, cause us regulars know they are, not only is it just tough finding em, it's even tougher catching them. I along with my brother in law were still getting one, maybe two occasionally, but the last 3 trips at least not a one. We ended up going back to our "original honey-hole" that we fished exclusively for years but just gave up on in the more recent years (as we have found many more nice holes) but we wen't back to it just our last trip, and i must say, we were pleasently surprised. It got very nice again & larger. Were going to concentrate our efforts in this area again (at least for the next few trips) and we'll see what it produces. This so called honey-hole was always good to us through the years, caught many a fish & quite a few diff species in this area, and some darn nice ones as well, so we'll see if time will tell that this spot/area can once again become our fav area.

p.s. last trip when we were there, seen tons of fish in this area, quite a bit of carp (and some big ones at that) but i could swear i seen some trout swimming with & laying with the schools of carp.

B.G. King -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (8/18/2008 8:42:34 AM)

I agree Peters Creeks is quite a jem for us urban anglers.  It is nice to see so many folks committed to picking up litter and taking out their trash.  I was amazed at how the trash is piled up in certain spots.  It looks like a war zone by the "4 bass ponds" Yesterday their was even a smoldering camp fire set in some bolders around 4:00pm(what a party that must have been).  That aside 3 cars stopped by those ponds, amazed they were there and stated they would be back to fish.  I promoted the Angler club who stocks and acts as a steward for the property. Hopefully some will join.  You never know about Peters I pulled out a huge carp from those ponds yesterday on a gulp, alive minnow. Just shows how fun Petes can be.
Tight lines everyone.

PeteM -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (8/18/2008 6:03:51 PM)

Yea, Gman, I've seen that a good bit too. In one of my more usual spots, the carp pool up by the truckload and the trout hang in the mix of them. I changed my casting point by a few feet one time and had a rainbow hit my line from out of a big pod of carp.

Someone told me that they school up like that because the carp stir up a bunch of food, and the trout hang in the mix and snatch up the goodies.

I did see about 6 or so trout yesterday holding deep in a shady pool but they weren't interested in anything I had to offer. It was mid day, and I think they were just snoozing.

DaGman -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (8/18/2008 9:33:56 PM)

Heres a cpl pics of a few trout we caught today, my brother in law caught a half decent brownie, and i caught a average rainbow. He caught at least 6 fish (mixed bag as far as species) he caught a brownie about 13, a very, very nice channel cat that measured at least 18 inches, a saugeye that was probably about 12, a carp & a sucker, and a few small bass. I only managed 1 8 inch largemouth, 1 sucker that was about 10, and a average sized rainbow. Heres the pics of the trout.[image]http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd126/DaGMan_2007/Peters%20Creek%202008/img040.jpg[/image]

DaGman -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (8/18/2008 9:36:21 PM)

My "baby rainbow", but needless to say, there still in there, just hard to find & even harder to catch.[image]http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd126/DaGMan_2007/Peters%20Creek%202008/img041.jpg[/image]

PeteM -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (8/18/2008 11:02:01 PM)

Thats a nice bunch of catching. It's great that they are staying strong and healthy this far into the year. Heck, a good holdover population should make for some great fall and winter fishing too.

flyfishermanPA -> RE: Peters Creek-Opening Weekend??? (8/19/2008 9:50:12 PM)

Wow, nice to know theres still fish in the creek.
