Trout About -> RE: 2500 crappie killed ? (4/14/2008 5:03:47 PM)

From the walleye thread.

If they were taking buckets and buckets of crappie/panfish from Pymy....they are allowed.  There's no minimum size or daily limit.

carpin05 -> RE: 2500 crappie killed ? (4/14/2008 8:49:01 PM)

I know a guy that keeps some small fish when big ones are not hitting he grinds them up and makes fish cakes of them !!!!
i do not have a problem with that.... He loves pan fish...

no offense...just havin fun..Hey Chauncy...Arthur is giving up some slabs & Crooked Creek is the place for numbers.

chauncy -> RE: 2500 crappie killed ? (4/15/2008 7:39:34 AM)

I'll be doing most of my fishing over in Ohio for the next couple weeks. I'll try to get down to Arthur early next month. We may have the fish-together there in May.
Sam, i got $5000. for those crappies. Do you need another bottle of HATERAID? I'm buying. Meet me at the Rec ramp around 10 and i'll put you on some slabs. Leave the attitude home. It wont catch squat.

mr.crappie -> RE: 2500 crappie killed ? (4/15/2008 12:00:37 PM)

Chauncy,Be careful you don't hurt your shoulder again by patting yourself on the back so much.Some may be immpressed, but some may not be. I'll trade you some dipp'n sauce for some hateraid as I am all out. BTW You may not remember but when you were going to meet the crappie club for a meeting at Crooked Creek when they first started ,you asked for some advise on where to start. I offered to show you some of my spots but you failed to reply.As I said, I am willing to help anyone. My opinion on greed is still the same whether it is you or anyone else, remember it is MY opinion. If you eat them or give them away they are still dead & that many less for others.I am not strictly C&R but I think that what you can't use you can still enjoy by releasing. If you feel that you can't do that, that is your business just don't be surprised that others don't agree.   sam

gonefishin -> RE: 2500 crappie killed ? (4/15/2008 12:28:24 PM)

You keep catching those crappies and sharing the catch Smitty!   Anyone that beefs at you also likely hates Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and Mother Teresa.  You have to understand the fear of success that exists with so many in eastern OH and western PA.  Good to see you found some early ones.  We'll keep hitting the trout down our way and head north when the Shenango water temps find the mid to high 50s.

MuskyMastr -> RE: 2500 crappie killed ? (4/15/2008 12:51:10 PM)

My kids and I have been poundin em in a local lake here, best spring for that lake that I have seen yet.  Got 10 over 13 in. plus 5 trout from shore last evening in less than 2 hours.   Good dinner.

Patting myself on the back..... If thats what you think, you're entitled to your opinion. Also your opinion on greed is your opinion. I can disagree but i wont. If i was keeping all those fish for myself, it would be greed. Giving fish to friends and family that doesn't fish is what i choose to do. Sure doesn't seem like a lot of people agree with your opinion but its still your opinion and i wont ever try to change that. You be you, i m i.

MICK FISH -> RE: 2500 crappie killed ? (4/15/2008 11:53:42 PM)

Somebody pat Sam's back so he can quit complaining!

I just got an invite to Latonka Friday![:D] Have not been there since ice fishing this winter.  Could not find the crappie then but caught jumbo perch after jumbo perch as fast as you could get them in!  Weather is looking like it is going to be fantastic for the rest of the week!  I might just catch 2500 all in one day[;)]!  What a fertile lake that is!

rapala11 -> RE: 2500 crappie killed ? (4/16/2008 12:04:10 AM)

smitty doesn't need to pat himself on the back, there are plenty of us willing to do it.  the man, as stated before, has never failed to help one of us out.  dang, his boat is a water taxi at times.  not sure if i would take strangers out.  keep on rocking, chaunc.

crappiechuck -> RE: 2500 crappie killed ? (4/16/2008 8:49:47 PM)

TBS------   With that size limit I knew she would be safe at the bar with you guys, and I could be fishin' with you pickin' up the tab for drinks.

It's all good fun no offense taken.

Slabseeker -> RE: 2500 crappie killed ? (4/22/2008 10:47:45 PM)

Just wondering how someone gets to fish four days a week? Laid off? Disability? Compensation? Welfare? I guess if a person didn't have to go to work they could probably catch quite a few crappie in a year. For working folks, though, four fishing days a week would be difficult to come by.

spoonchucker -> RE: 2500 crappie killed ? (4/22/2008 11:03:00 PM)

"For working folks, though, four fishing days a week would be difficult to come by."

I don't know. I worked 6 days a week, and fished 5-7 in spring, and early summer for years.

Indiana Lou -> RE: 2500 crappie killed ? (4/22/2008 11:07:00 PM)

Slabseeker, The first year I retired I fished 150 days!! That includes stream, lake, and ice. The last couple of years I've averaged between 80 and 100 days.  But you have to understand I'm trying to make up for lost time. While working for a living I maintained three jobs: taught school, had a remodeling business, and officiated H.S. football and basketball. All of these were over thirty or more years. And as much as I loved to fish I didn't get to go very often. So now it's "My Time"!!! Not laidoff. Not on disability, compensation, or relief. Just plain old retired and enjoying every minute of it. In fact I would recommend it to any working man.  Lou

MuskyMastr -> RE: 2500 crappie killed ? (4/22/2008 11:12:05 PM)

Umm...I work 3 jobs and have 3 kids under 5 and still fish at LEAST 3 days a week from ice on through august.

ShutUpNFish -> RE: 2500 crappie killed ? (4/22/2008 11:17:47 PM)

I've been fishing Shenango, Pymy, Wilhelm and Arthur Lakes for crappies for about 20 years....years ago, when I was a kid, I remember bringing home limtis of them just like today.  They are abundant and have been for years...No reason to bitch in my opinion!

Slabseeker -> RE: 2500 crappie killed ? (4/23/2008 1:16:11 PM)

If you are retired, fishing would be a great way to spend the day. Nothing wrong with that. When I read that someone fished 4 days a week, I thought they were talking about a full days fishing, not just a couple hours before or after work. When I get a day off I spend around 7-8 hrs fishing. That's why I wondered how you could fish that many full days if you had a job. Besides, I'm not sure you could rack up that kind of numbers (2500) only fishing a couple hours 3-4 times a week. I could be wrong, though. I am probably a little skeptical about people because my neighbor is one of those guys who claimed an injury a few years ago, which he has farmed since then, just so he could fish and hunt. He can't work at his job, but he does all kinds of things around the house. He fishes and hunts whenever he wants to and it doesn't seem to aggravate his injury. Someone like that could get in a lot of days fishing, but people like that really annoy me. I have no problem with someone who has an honest to goodness disability, though.

Kokanee Killer -> RE: 2500 crappie killed ? (4/23/2008 7:11:23 PM)

indy lou i really admire you,i have 2 kids jobs wife works etc.before kids marriage i fished pretty much every day now maybe 3 times a month if i am lucky, but i realize i am lucky cause those 3 days my son who is 8 goes and loves to fish with me maybe if i am lucky some day i will retire then my son can drive and i get to sleep on the way home,sure i would like to fish more but family comes first it makes me enjoy my time more on the streams more for those that have little ones out there you know what i mean priceless[:D]

chauncy -> RE: 2500 crappie killed ? (4/23/2008 7:53:09 PM)

Slab, i'm retired. Put 37 years in a pipe mill before imports slowed us to a crawl.When you get your time in, do like me and Lou do. I fish whenever i want to, and as long as i feel like it. I went out at 12:30 yesterday and caught 40 fish with 25 being 11" and better. Threw almost all the females back too. Only fished till 3:00. I know i could have easily C&R 100 fish if i wanted too. If you know the lake you could too. Fish fry at Linesville stumps sunday with the KCA. Come up and meet the group and talk fishing with us. This invitation is for everyone that wants to come.

crappiechuck -> RE: 2500 crappie killed ? (4/23/2008 7:58:17 PM)

Very honorable offer Chauncy, a true gentleman. I wish could come, love to BS about fishing and have a good fry but it's a 5 hr drive. Enjoy!!!!!

Slabseeker -> RE: 2500 crappie killed ? (4/23/2008 8:10:31 PM)

Chauncy,
Glad to hear you made it to retirement in good enough health to still enjoy life. Some folks don't. Sounds like the fish are biting pretty good in your neck of the woods. Are they in shallow yet? On some of the lakes they are still staging. Good luck with the retirement and the fishing.

Indiana Lou -> RE: 2500 crappie killed ? (4/23/2008 8:37:12 PM)

Slab, To add insult to injury, I'm even more fortunate because my wife still works!!! As long as I have supper on the table when she gets home she can care less as to how much time I spend on the water. She is contemplating retiring this july and I'm getting a little nervous because it may cut in to "My Time." Actually , I'm hoping she take an interest in fishing and want to go too. Fortunately she likes to eat the fish I catch so she's yet to tell me no. Just remember your time is coming but don't wish your life away in the process. Getting old is not all that fun either!  Lou

Slabseeker -> RE: 2500 crappie killed ? (4/23/2008 11:37:15 PM)

Lou, Sounds like you have a pretty good thing going there with the wife working and all. As far has having to have dinner on the table....have you ever tried those freeze-dried meals? Maybe you could put one in the microwave before you head out fishing and program the microwave to have it cooked for her when she gets home. That way she has a warm meal and you don't have to leave the fishing hole. I know that won't work on 99% of the women, but you could give it a shot. I was going to tell you to let us know what she thinks of the idea, but then you'd probably have to censor quite a bit of it. My wife doesn't have the patience to fish, so I can't get her to go. She has fished with me about two times in the 29yrs we've been married and I don't imagine she is going to start now. Good luck to you, though.

Indiana Lou -> RE: 2500 crappie killed ? (4/24/2008 9:57:46 PM)

Slab, Actually I have her spoiled. I like to cook so usually it's a full meal on the table. Home made soups, rolled cabbage, beef bracciole, and an ocassional grilled cheese sandwich. Of course some days we head out for pizza or some other resturaunt. And when the weather is crappy I drive her to and pick her up after. With that kind of service what is she going to say? We're going on 34 years this July which certainly isn't a record but is starting to become a rarity.   Lou
