Hey anglers

Be aware the "Little Beaver" is checking boat motors on the lake. 10 horse is still the maximum & remember your PDF's.......

Got the word from Wco "lil Beaver" that certain legislators in the state of Ohio have been removed/replaced & the 20 hp issue will heat up again!

every year the 10/20 hp debate surfaces and every year the wcos are going to check motors(yes, this year the RUMORS have spread more than other years). personally, i could care less what anybody runs. it is, however, common knowledge that MOST all motors on that lake are either hopped up or stickered differently, or both. it is also common knowlege that ALMOST all tourney guys are not running 10 hp. what is "Lil Beaver" going to do on 5/17 and 6/7 when 2 large tourneys are run with the MAJORITY running illegally? obviously there are more tourneys that will take place on pymy where guys are running illegal hp. however, these 2 are pretty large as far as pymy tourneys go. is "Lil Beaver" going to go after the "tourney" guys or the average "non-tourney" guys? imo he's going to do nothing with the "tourney" guys. just curious to see if it's going to be an even playing field for both and if the wco's are ACTUALLY going to do what they SAY theyre going to do.

I brought this up a year ago and some guys were happy with the 10hp limit and said drop the subject.  I definitely am not.  I am from PA and most lakes (many smaller than this one) are 20hp, this one should be too.  Thanks loby for stating it is some Ohio legitslators.  I'm not bashing OH, most citizens of OH don't know it is their government standing in the way of doing the right thing.

I just wonder, is it ok to bring a 10 ft. jonboat to Pymantuning with a 10hp and go 25mph?  Is is the not ok to bring a 18hp as a kicker on a 18' deep V and go 7mph?

Is that the statement 25mph is good, 7mph is too fast?

Thanks for bringing this subject up, some say we shouldn't talk about it.  Just leave the law wrong, and don't worry about bad laws.  I disagree, I think we should point out bad laws like this.  The laws are for us, the users of the lake.  Why allow them to be incorrect?

Is there anyone that can be contacted to help move the law toward 20hp?

People who want it to be 20hp should help move it in that direction.  We need the issue brought up again in the OH government and the correct people told to vote for it or find a new line of work.

Until they change it, i'll just keep doing my 6.5mph with my lund and still fishing the lake. Theres a lot of boat ramps on that lake. I can put in wherever area i want to fish and be fishing in less than 15 minutes.  Granted i dont try to fish the whole lake in one day.

lund, when i said to loby don't start again, i was making a joke.  we have this discussion every year.  i also said that it was my home state of ohiyer that stands in the way.  to me, there is not that much difference between a 10 and 20 except for the safety factor of getting off the lake in a storm.  like most here, it is not a big issue........sheeeeeeeeeesh.

Hey guys.....I am not trying to get anyone fired up over this issue! I was just passing on some info I was told by a "very reliable PBFC official"....personally, I am happy with my 9.9 on Pymy! I live to fish & would not care if I had to fish out of an inner tube with fins! It seems their are some boats out there that use motors that are marked 10 hp, but are "more than likely larger"..........

Good fishin' to ya!

please dont think i was busting your chops. i would think everybody appreciates the info. i have also heard that the wco's are SUPPOSEDLY going to crack down. however, thats SUPPOSEDLY the case every year. if the wco's REALLY want to get the message out, all they have to do is go to the tourney launches and start writing tickets. we all know that will never happen including the PFBC and the wco's. personally i hope nobody get a fine, however, if the wco's are going to pass out some info, imo, they need to "put out or get out" and actually do what they say theyre going to do. i'll lay $$$ "lil Beaver" will go after the average boater and never look once at the tourney guys that he KNOWS are running illegal. the PFBC will tell him and the other wco's what to do, what not to do and what to say.

also, i have absolutely no problem with tourneys or tourney fishermen. they are just easy "marks" when it comes to bigger motors.

the last legislator that I talked to said (and this was confirmed by ohio reps) that it is the landowners along the lake that stand in the way.  When it is mentioned they raise holy hell with thier state reps and that is why it is stalled out every time it comes up.

The reason Pymy. is rated 9.9 or 10 HP is due to the fact that conservationists like we fishermen, hunters, and outdoorsmen; wanted somewhere that wasn't inundated with water skiing rude @#%holes that churn up the shallow lake and ruin the habitat and tranquil fishing conditions held dear to us. If you want to race around like a maniac chasing fish, head north to Erie and turbocharge your engine to do light speed, let the hair on your neolithic brow flatulate in the gail-force winds and the endless chop you create. Meanwhile I will be daydreaming trolling for eye's or peacefully watching my bobber in a calm, pristine eco-system meant to benifit the fish (not the fishermen) and ensure that me and those like me will have somewhere to go to do so.  CAN I GET A AHMEN.

nobodys going to be water skiing or tubing off of a 20 hp motor. most motors running the lake are 15, 18, 25hp, etc... the guy that runs a bigger motor on arthur, wilhelm, etc... is running that same motor on pymy.

Agree commander.  Also should be mentioned that if a person chose to attempt to tube or ski, these activities aren't allowed anyway, in addition to be not really possible with 20hp.

Pymatuning has more PA shore than OH shoreline, so I'm guessing it has more PA landowners than OH (Don't know this as a fact, just assuming for the much larger PA shoreline).  It passed in PA government to make it 20hp.  So we are talking about a very small minority of the people (OH landowners) that control this decision over the vast majority of the people.  So it is democratic government to suit the minority.

This statement is not questioning anyones statement above.  I can completely believe that it is OH landowners stopping it.  Just pointing out this doesn't represent the form of government I thought I lived under.

Please don't take any of my comments as an insult to anyone.  As you can see I just don't agree with the law.  Basically it contradicts PFBC policy anywhere else in PA.  So the minority of Pyma falls in OH, but OH controls the law basically (at least by way of stopping things that PA does).

Talk about missing the point!!!!  I water ski, but on a lake for water skiing. 20 hp or 4000 hp; the lake is meant to fish on not haul ass around. I hope everone who has an illegal motor gets caught, because they care only about themselves not other fishermen, the people who live on the lake, the fish, or the lake itself. Most of the people who want to go fast here drive V8, gas guzzling, carbon monoxide spewing, environment choking cars too. Then they want to cry where have all the fish and game gone!!!!
To them I say be quite, go slow and get some respect for the lake, and the people who share the lake with you.

there are 20 hp lakes in pa that you cant water ski, tube, etc... on and imo there isnt a problem. as for people getting caught, like i said, it would be easy to make an example. grab the local pymy wco, walk him to the launch where there are 50-100 tourney boats. i can all but guarantee that 75% or more are running illegally. 10 to 1 says he will do nothing. that lake on "paper" is a 10hp lake, however there are very few running 10hp. i'm not saying its right, it's just how it is. 10hp motors have been "hopped" up for 20+ years. if you havent had a problem with boats yet, youre not going to have a problem if the lake gets legally changed.

I pay taxes to uphold the law. If the WCO is corrupt then screw them............... take some pictures (I surely will) and email them here. If a few people spoke up 9/11 wouldn't have happened. Wrong is wrong. It isn't a problem with boats going 2 or 200 it's about fair is fair and the law says 9.9hp. If your vows say until death do you part, can anyone bang your wife??????????????????

commander you are partially right about the 75%,but probaly the 75% is the amount of boats that use pymatuning.lets just leave it at 10 hp.if you need that fast a motor for pymatuning then maybe these guys should not be using it.you are also right about htese tourneys, the wcos turn their head.good business for the local econonmy.i still cannnot understand why tehy need higher horespower?

funny, but both pa and ohio have boosted hp on former 10 hp lakes.  cannot understand why ohio stalled on this one.  i have talked to reps in the past, but got the usual rhetorical responses expected from politicians.  one was, the issue was still being discussed.

Several good points made here in favor of 20hp.

1.)  Currently the lake has boats up to 20hp.  So what we are saying is make good quality fishermen who currently fish lake, legal, instead of fining good people who aren't making problems.

2.)  Skiing is illegal at Pymatuning, skiing is impossible with 20hp.

3.)  Several other fishing only lakes in the area have 20hp, in both states.  Several fishermen in both states have boat motors selected for 20hp limits, (15hp, 18hp, 20hp)

4.)  The law has been passed in PA, which has the majority of the acreage and shoreline of the lake to go to 20hp.

5.)  As I understand it, it is currently legal to have 20hp on a pontoon boat, but not other boats, reason???

Just reviewing.
