WOW...this game is over if Fluery isn't on his game

No kidding, they are all over the Pens.  Jiri Hudler is going to win this game.

Or lose it!

Amazing game, Malkin's play is really concerning. Maybe he's hurt.

I'm pretty sure he is.  I've also heard he's been playing with 2 broken ribs.

Interesting fact...   Last NHL team to blow a 3-1 Series lead in the finals?  The 1941-42 Detroit Red Wings.  They actually blew a 3-0 lead in that one, but that doesn't serve my purpose

Yes, 1942.

How many years ago?

66!

Who owns the team?

66!

Uh oh

Look out Red Wings, the kids haven't quit, and they are not intimidated by you, or your slimey octopus slinging fans.

I am not convinced that the Pens can do it yet.  Detroit is a great hockey team, but I have several thoughts that favor the Penguins from this point out.

1.  If Gonchar and Malone can continue in the series, the longer the series goes the more it will favor the pens.  Young legs will recover quicker.

2.  The wings almost skated a full second game last night which lends it self to point 1.

3.  Last nights loss was not only Physically draining, that is the type of game that can turn a series.  Granted the wings still have a HUGE 1 game lead, but that one was an emotional heartbreaker.

4.  If that game lifts the confidence level of the pens back to where it was earlier in the playoffs, the wings are in trouble.

5.  If Fleury plays like he did in the third and the OT periods, the wings lose.  I am sure he will get some heavy traffic from here on out, but that will require a change of game plan for the wings, which takes them somewhat out of what they have been trying to do.  And that heavy traffic in front could slow thier transition game down a bit.

No team that is down 3-2 is in a good position, but I really think that the Pens are in the best possible position considering the situation.

And while I bleed black and gold, it really wouldn't bother me to see the wings win (well besides ripping my heart out).  The wings are a great hockey team and fun to watch.

And another thing

F-ESPN
This is the Stanley Cup Finals, if it was the world series or superbowl there would be enough coverage to make you sick.

There are a few things to watch for in game six.

First and foremost is the Pens second line.  As I said earlier, if this goal by Sykora gets him going, that gives Malkin more space, thus generating some chances for that line.  If the Pens get two scoring lines rolling, it's a whole new ball game.

Secondly, wonder why none of the "experts" who have been yapping about how great of a job Datsyuk and Zetterberg are doing against the Crosby line are also mentioning how wonderful of a job Crosby and Hossa are doing backchecking the Wings duo.  At least they mentioned it last night.  Those lines have cancelled each other out.

Hossa is a playoff choker right?  I mean the guy just can't play when the pressure is on.  That and Fleury isn't a big game goalie, he folds under pressure.  How are those two myths holding up now?

Lastly is for our buddies on the board...  It has to be a little embarrassing to have to cheer for the Wings to knock the Pens out.  Each of these wins has to gnaw and gnaw at you huh?  I will say this though, I admire you boys for sticking to your guns!  If the Flyers would of won, I'd be all over the Wings , had the Rangers won, I would be pulling for Drury.  I hate the Rangers, but Drury is the kind of player I want my son to look up to and aspire to be on the ice.

It's also interesting to watch this team grow up during this series.  The wings have made them tougher, and wiser.  Games 1 & 2 the experience advantage of the wings was obvious, the kids are growing up quick though!

Don Cherry needs to realize that Holstrom is not in front of the net because of Gill.....Great game by him last night as well.

The thing about Fleury is not that "he folds under pressure".  It's that "he has always folded under pressure in the past".  Until a guy proves he can do it, you just can't assume they will suddenly change their proven track record.  Fleury has failed in everyu pressure situation since being drafted, that's just fact.  He got yanked twice for Andy Freaking Chiodo, twice for heaven's sake.  He made the error that cost Canada a World Juniors Gold Medal, which he admits contributed to his fear of playing the puck, until this season, over 4 years later! And Fleury has excelled these playoffs.  He has silenced his doubters, of which I "was" one.  Not any more.  I know he had all the skills, but doubted if he had the ability to not get so down on himself.

Now, it'd be time for you to give Ryan Whitney some credit, right?  Britney, the purse swinger, played the game of his life last night.  50:46 in ice time.  Broke up I don't know how many scoring chances with his stick.  Played "defense" as in defended his goal from scoring chances, with aplomb.   As well as standing in for Gonchar when he went out.  Stellar performance by Ryan Whitney.

That game last night was awesome.  I couldn't go to sleep for an hour after it was over.

He played better for sure, but he also managed to infuriate me at time last night.  I want to reach through the TV and stangle him when he looks around with that "Who's going to go get that" look when the puck is in the corner.  Part of playing defense is going into the corners and taking a hit to clear the puck, which Mrs. Whitney is still unable to comprehend at this point in the season.  But yes, it was an admirable performance by Whitney last night for sure.  He angered me much less than normal last night....

I still hope he is expendable at the end of the season and is moved along with his contract to sign Hossa.  Gologoski and Letang are both more than capable of filling that offensive role and I know for sure Letang is better in his own end than Whitney is, not sure about Gologoski, he looked pretty god WB/S in the first two games of the Calder finals, but that's just that, the Calder finals...

Ha!

Did you notice that Gill, Orpik, and Roberts seemed on a mission to ram Datsuk through the boards?  They hit him relentlessly, especially Gill.

Yeah, they're making sure they finish the hit on Datsyuk and Zetterberg every time.  Which is awesome.  Good hard nose hockey, no elbows or jumping into guys, just good clean hits.  Detroit's laying a few out as well, Malone is taking a beating.  Datsyuk has laid a few out himself too, don't forget that, he smoked Malone in game 1.

Kennedy has been drilling people left and right.  I like the Talbot, Ruutu, Kennedy line, they need to keep that one together.

Detroit has a Downie as well...  Funny thing is, he isn't playing either, maybe that's why we're behind in the series.

They also have a "Backstrom".  Nik Backstr...   errrrr... Kronvall.

What did Ruutu say to Kronvall after he put it in his own net?  "Nice shot"?

Speaking of Ruutu...  It killed me the other night when he told Maltby to retire.  That's hysterical...

Not as funny as this, this never gets old...

Not really!  I think Detroit is a great team and really enjoy watching them play.  I think they are a level above the Pens and every other team in the league.  The only reason this series is not over is because your goal tender is standing on his head.  That's it!  Now anything can happen and I would certainly not count the Pens out.

F- all pens fans!

Oh man, was i ever tired last night, I guess I'm starting to get old.  You know, when a game goes 5 hours, and gets that intense, the amount of beer a guy drinks expands exponentially.  Then, of course, that same guy is so nerved up he can't even think about sleeping for an hour or more after the game ends, insert more beer, and...

...now I'm well rested and ready for another one tonight!
