In my opinion, the Pens showed nothing in this series regarding what they are made of.   They played an inferior team that no-one, even their moms, gave them a chance of winning.  Happy for Pen's fans, but the goodness of this team still has yet to be tested in the playoffs.

hahaha thats a good one good luck against the caps flyers seem to have the caps number they have AO totally looking lost,flyers can't keep taking stupied penelties or sooner or later AO will make them pay dearly keep playing smart.

You're out of your mind, they more or less controlled the series from game one to game four. If not for Gerber (Sens MVP and it's not even close), it would've been very ugly. Seriously...

I agree that the pens still need tested, BUT that was a playoff hockey team with some talent, not some cellar dwellars.  Take the experience and the confidence and move on....Anybody, anywhere....

And Philly is getting a stern test of playoff hockey with the Captials?  It's the playoffs.  All the teams deserve to be here.  The Pens dominated that series from the 1:08 mark of the first game, they never let up.  The Sens scored 5 goals in 4 games.  5.  Last I checked Heatley and Spezza were playing.  Redden and Phillips were there, as was Mezaros.  Cory Stillman...  Ottawa is still a fairly good team.  Granted Alfredsson was not 100% and Fisher and Kelly were not there.  If they're there does Ottawa win the series, who knows.  But I do know this, the Pens should of won, and they did, convincingly.  They made it not be a series.  Ottawa hardly rolled over and died.

Pittsburgh has been the 4th best team in the league since November.  I know a lot of you guys can't handle that and still hold on to this notion that the Pens are inexperienced, porous on defense and have weak goaltending.  I hope you keep that notion, I really do.  Maybe we can sneak up on a team or two this playoff year.  I'd love for someone to overlook us.

Inferior team??? what are you smoking....Philly is the one playing the inferior team...Washington who barely squeeked into the playoffs just like Philly?? The Sens made it to the finals last year while Philly and Washington both watched on their TV's...

Who are the inferior teams again??  I didnt know the top 8 teams in the Eastern and Western Conferences were inferior...they all seem pretty good in my book....

Wow!!!!!  If anyone assumed that the Sens of this year are the same quality of last year, it is time to put down the IC Light and replace it with some water.

Another thing, a team making the playoffs does not necessarily make that team a quality team.  How many teams are in the playoffs?

Face it, the Pens beat up on a weak team.  No big deal.

Not my point, but I see what you're saying.  My point is, they should of won that series and they did, convincingly.  I gave the Sens a shot at winning at least one game.  Still doesn't change the fact that 4 of the 7 teams left are from the same division and they've all pretty muich played each other to a realitively even record for the year.  No one left in the East scares me, no one. 

The Rangers would be our toughest test.  That is the one team that we don't match up with well.  The Debbies and Flyers would both be good series, but I think the Pens win both of those.

Exactly - the Pens did what they should have done.   I want to see what they can do when there is a question about the outcome.   Of course, any team is capable of knocking another team out.

Washington isnt exactly a team that you can go and say is quality either.  So really who exactly is playing quality teams....Only 4 sets of games goin on in the Eastern Conference...so wheres the quality teams???

Just cause the Pens swept the number 7 team doesnt mean Ottawa was a joke...Washington and Philly both barely made it into the playoffs...So if your saying that 2 teams playing who both BARELY made it in are more quality then the Penguins who put up 16pts in 4 games dominating offence, defence, and goaltending and because of it took away Otawa's desire to win, thus sweeping the series isnt quality...I really dont know what is.

Everyone has a point here. 

Sens LIMPED into the playoffs having a miserable second half of the year.   Doing so poorly almost cost them a playoff birth.   Now compare that to other teams who have had strong finishes to make it into the playoffs.   From a pragmatic viewpoint (as opposed to drinking large quanitities of iron sh*tty beer and spekaing from one's posterior), is there a difference in teams?  

Sometime numbers mean donkey doo doo regarding rankings.  I do know this, I know the difference between hockey fans and fans of the Pens.   The former is more enlightened.

Lol, you killing me Doc, but sometimes on here, I think you have a pretty good case...

Of all the teams that could be dubbed the "early round cupcake", the Sens were front and center, you can't dispute that.  Right behind them I would put Boston, they almost played themselves out.  The Flyers also managed to "stop the bleeding" so to speak and earn themselves a spot in the playoffs.  I would of taken a first round match up against anyone of those 3.  They all were appealing.

The Sens were the easy "get a win under the belt" series.

Boston is the hard to get motivated for, but should still win series

And Philly was the we hate you and this is going to be a slug fest, but I still have the Pens winning that one.  I just think that while the Flyers are a little more physical, the pens can hang with them, but have superior firepower and ultimately win that one.

Next round, of course the Pens would love to see the Caps, that would be another skating and offensive series, plus that keeps them out of a divisional series and lets Montreal deal with the Rangers or Debbies.  Then the Pens get Montreal and that's another skating series...  The path would be so easy for the Pens...

Then of course you run into what Ottawa ran into last year, they coasted through the east and run into a buzz saw in Anaheim.  The Ducks were battle tested and played 3 tough series before that.  So you want that grueling match up!

We are not talking about beating, or even sweeping a lesser team. What you saw was total dominance, in EVERY aspect of the game. Something that one should not EXPECT from any team in the league, let alone a playoff team over four games. Not only did the Pens dominate in every aspect, but in ever manner as well. They beat them in the skating game, the physical game, and scored through both finesse, and speed, and grinding as well.

Forthcoming teams have to look not only at the goals that got past Gerber, but the multitude that didn't. Then ask themselves, can our tender match that 4 out of seven?

Yes, it was total domination.  So what?  It does happen!  The Pens were SUPPOSED to win.  The Sens had nothing going in.  Sure they made the playoffs, but in hockey, sometimes that does not make you a good team.

I think the Erie Otters would have given the Pens a better series!

Let us see what happens when they play a team with momentum.  Going 3-6-1 into the playoffs is not a good thing.  Pens had it too easy.  Sens were ripe for the picking.

Burt (Bob E.) made a statement last night that he did not see any weaknesses in the Pens play.  I see giving up all of those short-handed chances to the Sens as a BIG problem for the Pens.  Give that many chances to a more skilled team will get you into trouble fast.  They did that to Philly as well.  They may want to work on that...or not...lol.

i find it funny that Grendel picked ottawa to win over the pens then states that they are not a good team, and were expected to get dominated by the pens. lol. i can hardly wait to read what he says when the pens dominate the next team they play......

btw, how is it that you can hate a team like the pens yet support one that gives the game of hockey a black eye due to their cheating, dirty, thug play?!?!

LOL - I picked the Sens beacuse of my love for the Pens.   Heck, I would pick the St. Mary's School of the Blind Hockey's team over the Pens (no offense to the blind or anyone from St. Mary's - well - apart from my bro Kevinuppyours).

watching the game between the cryers and crapital---- they have to be the two worst teams in the playoffs. if either team would have played ottawa they would have lost in 5 games.

and i don't ever again want to hear complaining about ref calls against the cryers. they are getting away with a lot in this game.

i would rather have one "whiner" on the team that respects the game than an entire team full of thugs that gives hockey a bad name. everyone in the world knows that the cryers only chance (if that's what you call it) of winning a few games is to play dirty. i honestly don't know how cryer fans can look at themselves in a mirror after watching and rooting for a team that tries to cheat their way through each and every game they play......

We look in the mirror just like anyone else.  Not that difficult.

Jonesy said it right tonight "The Sens were the lame duck."  They were the team that everyone wanted to play because of injuries and how they limped into the playoffs.

Congrats to the Pens for beating up the lame duck.   Guess that is all a Flightless Fowl can do....
