Any pointers.There are alot of grass carp in a river by my way. They are in the 40lb range. Ive caught them on mulberries but never flys. Anyone have a killer carp fly suggestion? Thanks

most any nymph will work, i'm looking at trying this myself this summer. i've heard a crayfish pattern is good also.

Hares ear nymphs have worked best for me, weighted and unweighted. I like to use a 7-9 ft length of one of the new monos, spiderwire, etc..., no tapered leader, and use a real slow crawl for a retreive. Have been getting a few more fish each year, and they are a ball, 20# freshwater bonefish. Mostly fishing Frenchcreek and the river around Franklin.

try a long brown woolly bugger dragged slowly on the bottom. it looks like a night crawler. ~dt

Have caught them on sucker spawn and have seen a mulberry pattern which was red spun deer hair shaped to look like one

San Juan worm works also. Try using chenille for a murberry. Tie it like sucker spawn.

They are so friggin skiddish it is unreal. There just starting to move up the river .I wish i was invisible.Any sure bets? Anybody try any scent on the flys?

tie a pattern that looks like a kernel of corn :)

my best results have come from small crayfish imitations 2-3 inches

Big white glo bugs scented or unscented work well for me.  Vanilla flavoring helps them hold on to it that extra second to get a hook set cause they have a tendency of spitting it quick if they feel a hook.

Well i took all the advice and i was succefull in getting them to pick up my fly(White glo bugs and vanilla and a copper nymph)But no good hooksets. I wish i had a gun(kidding)a bow would have done trick. They went right after the copper nymph. I ran a 12 foot leader,floating backing and still scared some away. One bad cast and off they go. Its gonna take a lot. Im going to pin for them nextime to see what its like. I am in a kayak when i fishing for them. Im a little to low on the water and its a little hard to spot them.They went after the copper beeded nymph the most. The little poofs from the sandy bottom made them pay special attention. They would go right to the fly. I guess they think its a small crayfish and they dont want it to get away. Just a quick small strip to puff the sand was the trick. I try again .Thanks

Try and keep an eye on what they may be eating and try making a fly to mimic that.  The year the 17 year cicidas were around I made flies to mimic them and was crushing them.  It was one of my funnest fly fishing experiances ever.

I tie a bread fly from the a white filter material, almost like furnace material and us it a Linesville spillway.
