I managed to get the weekend off, so I wont be starting out at Turtle Creek after all. I may try it sunday. Unless this rain triggered acid drainage from the mines. Much as it is kinda dumpy there, talking about it like this makes me wanna check it out to see how much has changed in the years since I've been there. So, if ya see a guy with a San Jose Sharks pullover and a grey vest, more often than not pulling his spinner out of the bushes, that's probably me.

Terrible ol' Turtle Creek was packed....every man an' his dog there, most with full stringers....except me of course with 3 , but they were browns. Many of the rainbows looked around 14"....saw two Palominos caught.
Can't imagine many decent size fish left....new hordes were arriving as I left.

I went there Saturday and it wasn't extremely packed where I started, but if you looked up stream a couple holes, it was shoulder to shoulder. I did really good and landed a 21" rainbow and a 19" palomino. Seen A LOT of dead fish floating down past me throughout the day so I'm not sure what that was all about. All in all it was a pretty descent day.

Fished Turtle Creek Tuesday evening after work. Fish seemed few are far between close to Saunders Station Road, but the further downstream I went, the more fish I found. One hole yielded 15 hookups within a half hour or so. Didn't see as many dead fish I as I normally see, but there were a few. If you are practicing C&R on that creek, try to keep the fish as stress free as possible. Unnessacary stress on the fish, coupled with the polluted water of the creek will result in dead fish. I almost want to say keep what you catch out of there because survival odds are so slim for the fish, but I personally wouldn't eat a thing out of that creek, so I won't recommend that.

Had a great wade there Saturday.....walked a mile or so from Trafford to the west. Got my five in quick time, all good size inc two very fiery 15" browns. Saw a couple of VERY nice ones caught on roosters. Got mine all on meal worms. Saw a lot of dead fish which I think were the result of catch and release, as the fish caught were very fat and "healthy".
I have resolved to take the trout from this creek and eat them while still fresh and minimally polluted because it really upsets me seeing the wastage lying on the sand. Catch and release is fine for waters which support natural reproduction....but these stockies are put in the creeks to CATCH!!!! They will inevitably die either as a result of C&R or the onset of warm water.
ANd...another season comes along and still....bait containers, cig butts, plastic bags, small fish rotting on the banks...shame you once a year fishers. Makes me bloody sick....no appreciation for the simple things we have.

i agree with all these ideas, and opinions, i fished there last year week of stocking, caught about 30 by b-y park seen plenty of fish, came back the next morning only to see nothing, catch nothing. it was like the fish all died, or something because for the amount of fish that i seen and to go back the next day and not see any or even get a bite once, somethings "fishy" about that place..

Thats what I've been saying about that creek. It is nice water with a ton of good holes and runs, but if the fish are dying in April from catch and release, even in the lower section of the stocked area which has far better water qualilty then near Saunders Station road upper limit, then yes, something is very wrong and the words "minimally polluted" are a stretch. And yes, the litter is a problem too. Thank God that creek is on a county line border or else most of it would probably be off limits.
