bughawk & jlh, if the waters clear and sunny out bring 7x tippet if you plan on fishing dries. the trout in the dlh are pretty finicky. the other guys can tell you the specific flies to take, i never fished it around the first of may.    ~dt

I never fish 7x... dont even carry it anymore.

Ill have all the flies I always carry, ill figure out something they want. Dries only appeal to me when the fish are rising in masses.

jlh, i'm more of a dry fly guy. i learned even though the fish may not be rising, i "make'm rise!!"
i'm sure we'll all have flies to share.

when you go up rte8 there will be signs that says 'to petrolium center' follow the signs. the first bridge you see on the rt. is the perolium center bridge. you realy can't miss it.

Dano last year had them taking his dries. I sat there and watched the show! I missed a bunch on a fly he gave me. Be sure to cleat your boots.

Egg,
OK I'm going to try to make it this year.   May bring the "Skeeter" with me (my grandson).  What weight rod and line will I need to fish Mika out of the creek?  Cause with my recent luck that's all I'll be able to catch.  Also, IF I make it I can almost certainly promise a "suprise">

Ive never fished it but the weight rod isnt so much of a concern as a backbone, it looks WIDE.

Jeremy,

It's a very slippery, wide stream with an average of 2-4 foot depth.  A 5 weight is the optimal rod, IMO.
3, 4 + 6# will also work.

I cant get my new 5wt zero g out of my hands. I went fishing yesterday with esox and it was all i could do not to take it. I reached in, got it out, started to walk out the door and remembered it would see a lot of action next week. Put it back for the superfine but it wasnt easy. That rod casts dries like a DREAM!

I'm going 'boo all the way!

I'll be fishing my Dad's bamboo rod which was recently brought back to life by none other than insquiz himself.  He did a masterful job of it, and I'll be posting pictures soon.  I'll have a 4 wt as a backup, but I'm hoping that's gonna stay in the jeep.  Dry flies on the 'boo.  I can't wait!

Wait!  Did someone say C-H-E-R-R-I-E-S?????

T.T.,
Did you say you were going to try to get me something else to repair?   With my luck you will hook into something steelie size and that will be it.  But if you're going boo, then I will too.  Just remember short, slow casts like in slow motion.  You scared me with the other rod.   Where's the pictures?  Oh well I'll be up on thursday for about 4 days with the 'skeeter'  (Brandon) and he wants to fish with you again if possible.

Mika,
Well we could all at least TRY to bamboo.  If we can get Dano, & Crisrowboat, and Bughawk and a few more there it should be Veeerrrry Interesting.  I think your rod would do very nicely throwing about a 3-4 wt.  If I can come I may bring a few witn me.  Nothing expensive just good fishing rods.  But I will have back-up.  I'm thinking of a 1956 Shakespeare Presidential in 4/5 wt., or maybe a professional.

I'm going to try to make this.

I have a big house remodel about to start.  Depending on what stage my contractor, myself, and my electrician buddy can get to by the time of the outing, is what will dictate whether or not I can make it.  Not to mention, I need co-operation from the weather, for 3-4 consecutive days, to rip my roof off, in the next week or so.  So, uh, yea, wish me luck there.

In any case, I hope to attend, and it will probably be near a last minute decision for me.

We're gonna have crudd weather for the trout opener, so it'll be great for the Outing.  Get it out of it's system, is what I'm hopin'.

I just got my 4wt back from St. Croix, in about a week's time, so I'll be armed to the teeth for hungry trout.  Great customer service for a 7 year old fly rod.

Gentlemen,
If I can make it up I may spend a few extra days.  Think there may be some late steel or should I forego the tribs?

Just drive a little farther west for some steel.

Loopy,
Tried that this year, mixed results.  I'm kind of handicapped and don't walk very well so the big water is kind of hazardous to me but there is some nice looking water I just need good access.  My days of walking miles is over I fear.

Anyone ever used poly wing caddis on Oil Creek?  I have been experimenting with fly patterns and put together some caddis flies using poly yarn instead of elk hair.  They look neat, but wonder if the fish will hit them.  Thanks for any help.

Why wouldnt they? As long as they have the profile and a good drift, youre golden like a shower.
