Anyone ever buy the Cabelas bulk bait packs of 500 worms ? The prices seem pretty good and they state they have a good shelf life, was thinkin of just buyin bulk bait this year instead of goin out of my way to the bait shop.

Or better yet, order them where the baitshops order them:

Worm Mans Worm Farm
Grubco Bait Company
Beaver Bait Company
Wholesale Bait Company

those prices plus shipping would be more than what a local shop will sell for.

I have to agree with hardcore fisher on this one.  I was at Tackle Unlimited last year and was very disappointed with the store.  I had heard a lot of good things about it and when I finally stopped by the store really was not that big of selection of items and the people really didn't seem that friendly for a local shop.  I thought it was me but another guy told me he felt the same when he was in there too.  I guess if they have it and I wanted it in a hurry I would stop there and pick it up as it is close but, Cabelas is only an hour or less away and they have a lot more to choose from.  I try to spend money local but service and selection always wins me over when it comes to my fishing tackle needs.

Hardcore I have bought the bulk baits from Cabelas and they have seem to keep for about three years from me.  I put them in gallon size freezer bags in a cool place here in the house and only take out what I need when fishing.

I've never had a bad experience at Tackle Unlimited. They have always been friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
Their reel repair service is the best around. Something you'll never get at Cabela's.
I'll take TU any day over Cabela's.

I would agree with you on the reel repair I would never use Cabela's or for that matter any tackle shop only the manufacture for major reel repairs. I do all my own minor repairs and basic maintenance on all my reels.

What suprised me was when I meet some of the people from that shop at the bass classic down at Pittsburgh three years ago they seemed really nice there.  Like I stated maybe it was the day or something but I got a truely cold feeling when I was there last year in the fall.

I try and spend a few bucks every week at TU.  Yes, the owner can be a pain in the ass at times but running a small business and puttin up with the general public can be tough.  They will always try and help you and if you count the time that their shop was in Clairton they have been in the fishing game for fifty years.

what kind of worms are you looking to buy? poor richards will sell you nightcrawlers in bulk. if you want wax worms, meal worms, etc... go to a Petco. 500 mealworms is around $8.00. they have superworms, different sizes of mealworms, butterworms, etc... also, they have large and small crickets for around $1 a dozen. pet stores that have reptiles and amphibians will have food/bait.

If you are at TU, then you are less than 2 miles from Shadlure. They may be a smaller shop, but they carry all the essentials and have always been helpful and willing to assist with advice/contests/questions etc.--when the PG and Trib want a local Mon river report that is who they contact.

I just got an order from Beaver Bait and was very impressed with the wax worms, but the spikes and butter worms were kinda small. Price wasn't bad though. If you live near a Gander Mountain, I bought bulk spikes there last year and they were awesome.

I have been looking into bulk baits as well...I am a huge Butter worm guy and they are by far the best bait for me...i'm sure a lot of you will disagree or simply say they are too expensive which is true...but they will get me that big one when everyone else has given up on it!!! I remember last year when I pretty much waited in line for a day while guys threw different baits and lures at this 27 inch brown and I got him in one cast with a butter worm!! now, do any of you know of a place where I can get a bulk of them? I hear they are not from around here so that makes em expensive but I figured it was possible to find a bulk of them if you look in the right place...anyone help me with that???

There are actually a few places on ebay that have butter worms, they looked tempting, but the qty. was way more than I wanted. The price seemed reasonable though.

I will take Shad Lure any day over Tackle Unlimited.  Shad Lure is smaller but have the essentials and will help you in any way that they can.  Not a big fan at all of Tu.  Been in there a couple of times and its like they are doing me a favor by taking my money.  I would rather drive to Poor Richards than Tu and I am literally 5 minutes from Tu.

If you are looking for nightcrawlers. The amish up here(crawford county) sell them for 50cents a dozen.20 bucks will get you 40 dozen crawlers. I do it every spring and fill my crawler bin.

Almost any where around spartansburg. Just look for their signs along the road. The one I go to lives next door. That is at the intersection of rt 77 and rt 89..

I totally agree, I would rather drive to poor richards than shop at Tackle Unlimited and its right up the road.

He will bad mouth the CUSTOMER who just walked out the door that didnt buy there rod or reel there.  In the meantime, he is hustling daily for the past few years on the internet, fishforless.com and archibaldson on ebay!!!!
