I don't mind namecalling, but I do mind personal attacks on my family members. Goby made derogatory remarks about one of my family members as did Commander and that is where I draw the line. Call me a "douchebag," raise the asshole flag I could care less. To me talking about sports is fun and if the verbal jabbing bothers you that much don't respond. I would like to sincerely apologize to Beerman since members such as yourself have hijacked his thread and there is no more talk about the Browns and the Steelers. Maybe you should start a thread about whatever team you follow, unless you are going to talk about the Browns and the Steelers.

Prove where I said anything of the kind. You are waffling again. And please place your STEELERS-BROWNS prediction involving a 6 point spread.

Finally back to talking about the topic at hand...

The Steelers should win big this weekend. I expect a big game from Roethlisberger and I think Santonio Holmes has a breakout performance. The Steelers have way too many offensive weapons for the Browns to handle and this game is shaping up to be a bigger mismatch than usual. If the Steelers offensive line continues to dominate, this could be another game where we see the second and third stringers by the end of the game. The only issues going into this game for the Steelers are the rivalry factor and possibly a letdown after celebrating the first win too much. I think the only way the Steelers lose this game is if they turn the ball over and make stupid mistakes.

The Browns do not match up well with this Steelers team and as I mentioned prior to the start of the season, with Polamalu in the game the Steelers pass defense is much different. With that being said, Winslow still worries me because tight ends seem to always have big games against the Steelers and Winslow is now a premier player. He could give the Steelers fits and give the Browns a little life. This game should be very exciting and will be a measuring stick for both teams.

Prediction: Steelers 31 Browns 17

Track,

Just for the record, if you read the ENTIRE heading of this thread, Beerman has included an "others" category.  So...this would include other teams than the Browns and Steelers.  Your attentiveness to detail is superb. <sigh>

Having said that, the Bills (as the "others" category), while enjoying a great performance against the Seahawks, will experience a loss this week to Jacksonville.

Doc

My apologies to Spoon for trying to nail jello to the wall.

Good point I did miss that Beerman added the others information to thread title. I just assumed it was Steelers and Browns as it has been in the past, and I am thinking he put that for D.T. fish who was the lone Broncos fan here, but where did that guy go?

P.S. I didn't know the Toronto Bills had fans yet

Toronto will be the eventual home scene for the Bills - once Ralph passes that is.

Sorry for the low blow Grendel, I was just "jaggin" you.  I am actually afraid the Pirates will be leaving sometime soon also. It is a said state of affairs when a team leaves and I am sure Beerman remembers all to well when the Browns left for a little while.

Your welcome...  I can't pass up an invite to type douchebag!!!

I'm a bit concerned about Ben's shoulder.  Not really sure if he is going to need to be passing like crazy this week though.  I don't see the Browns getting into last year's form, until they have a chance to heal a bit more.  I also don't think the Browns are going to be able to keep the Stiller running attack off of the field.  Not that they haven't been living through this same senario for the better part of the past 4 decades...

I was very impressed by the O-line play of last week, and overall team play.  The Texans have a legitimate top 10 defense, and one of, if not the best WR in the NFL.  Not much beyond that though.  Still, should likely be in the playoff hunt by the end of the season.  They are not "only the Texans" as many have put this win off as.  I think they had an off day, which the Stillers exploited.  I was a bit nervous about the game myself, and rather shocked by the final outcome.

I like the Stillers this week in a rather low scoring game.  24-13.

D.T. Fish is hosting his outdoors show...  Possibly with a bunch of cheerleaders!

What is it with Ohio players playing for the Steelers? It has to hurt Browns/Bengals fans when guys like Roethlisberger and Holmes come back to Ohio and beat the Browns/Bengals. This article was pretty interesting:

In Ohio, Holmes remains a standoutNFL WEEK 2: Steelers vs. BrownsFriday, September 12, 2008By Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Peter Diana / Post-Gazette
Steeler receivers Santonio Holmes and Hine Ward
Santonio Holmes has added 11 pounds, thickened his shoulders and forearms and strengthened his upper body, all to stay healthy for a 16-game season and tolerate the bumps and bruises he incurs in the NFL.
It's not because he's carrying the pride of the Ohio State University on his back.
It just seems that way every time he plays a game in Ohio.
"Not many guys get the opportunity to go back where they played college ball or where they played high school and have family and friends around," Holmes said. "They get a chance to see what you can do and what you did for those guys when you were playing there."
Holmes has certainly done that.
Maybe it's the juice he gets when he hears "Hang on Sloopy," the official rock song of the state of Ohio, being blared at Cleveland Browns Stadium. Holmes gets so animated when they play the song, his teammates tease him because he thinks he's back at Ohio State, where he was a three-year starter.
"They think I'm cheering for the Cleveland Browns," Holmes said.
Holmes returns to the state of Ohio Sunday night when the Steelers (1-0) play an AFC North game against the Browns (0-1), and, if recent history is any indication, the third-year wide receiver should have another red-letter performance.
In four games in Ohio since he left Ohio State -- two against the Browns, two against the Cincinnati Bengals -- Holmes has 17 catches for 341 yards and three touchdowns. In last year's 34-7 victory in Cleveland in the season opener, he caught two passes for 55 yards, including a 40-yard touchdown.
If he keeps that up, pretty soon they might let him dot the "I" in "Script Ohio."
"I never look at it as being successful going back there," Holmes said. "It's the way the game plays out for me. I never go into a game thinking, in the back of my mind, 'OK, I'll show these guys.' It's the way game plays out."
Then he added, "But a lot of them wish I were with the Browns and not with the Steelers."
The Steelers did not use Holmes much in their 38-17 victory against the Houston Texans, but, then, they really didn't have to.
He caught only two passes for 19 yards, though the first one -- a 9-yarder over the middle on third-and-3 -- kept alive the first scoring drive that resulted in Willie Parker's 7-yard touchdown.
That could change against the Browns, a team with a tattered secondary.
Before the season, they traded their best cornerback, Leigh Bodden, to the Detroit Lions for nose tackle Shaun Rogers, and lost nickel back Daven Holly, a projected starter, to season-ending knee surgery. That forced the Browns to sign nickel back Terry Cousins as a free agent and trade a seventh-round pick to the Miami Dolphins for cornerback Travis Daniels at the end of training camp.
On top of that, strong safety Sean Jones had arthroscopic knee surgery this week and will not play against the Steelers, and free safety Brodney Pool hasn't played since the second preseason game because of a concussion, his third in four years. Poole is expected to return Sunday night.
"That's a tough deal," Holmes said. "Maybe the more players they have out, the better we can perform.
"With the balance of running the ball and passing the ball that we have, that's been the biggest concern for them -- to cover us. It's hard for those guys to be in the right place at the right time."
Holmes had 52 catches for 824 yards and eight touchdowns last season, and his 18.1 per-catch average led all NFL receivers with more than 20 catches. But he also missed three games because of injury, which is why he decided to bulk up and get stronger in the offseason.
Holmes added 11 pounds with weightlifting and running and now weighs 197.
"I think that's the main key for me to stay healthy for 16 games -- put on a little more muscle and be able to withstand the little nicks and bruises here and there throughout the season," Holmes said.
Or maybe just play in the state of Ohio.

I see Sunday's game in Cleveland going one of two ways......or another way?

The Browns play turnover free with their high scoring offense,  paired with an opportunist defense creating sacks and turnovers.  (DREAM ON)

OR

The Steelers run the ball all over the Browns, setting up the "west coast" pass.  The defense makes it hard for Lewis to get anything extra and Braylon Edwards keeps missing the easy ones thrown to him.  (logical analysis)

Another way?

As much as I would prefer that the Browns beat the Steelers tonight, I logically can't see it happening (only in my dreams) at this point in the season.

Pittsburgh Steelers 34
Cleveland Browns 24

I am with you on this regarding the preference for the Browns over the Steelers.  Living in Central Pa has been a nightmare!  Everywhere I go I ugly black and gold everything!  My students loves wearing that stuff to class since they know it makes me a little red under the collar.  I am automatically passing a student who had the fortitude to wear an Eagles jersey.  Not an Eagles fan, but it was nice to see something else other than black and gold.

In any event, I personally was not impressed by the steelers last week at all.  they beat a team they should have beat. It will be interesting how the measure-up to the NFC East teams.  Similarly, Cleveland ran into a freight train (no pun intended and my heart pours out to the victims and families of the recent train wreck out west) in Dallas.  This week should be a better indication of BOTH teams.

Anyone but the SQUEELERS!

yeah, yeah, yeah, we know, you don't like pittsburgh teams. Don't worry, someday before you turn 90 Buffalo will come up with a team that doesn't suck. Then you'll have a team to root for, instead of having to root against someone.    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-QswtRwh0o&feature=related

Buffalo has a Championship team in the Bandits.  Won the Major Indoor Larosse League Championship again last season  Think they have won that about 4 or 5 times now.  Do not have to wait until I am 90!  LOL

OK, Steelers win by more than 6 and Atlanta covers the 8 point underdog status. There's 2 picks.

Well here is my take on the game:

1) Troy Polamalu is back and the Steelers are a different team defensively with him. The only thing that worries me is him jumping through the air and getting hurt. The "Flying Hawaiian" is worth the price of admission, but he needs to calm down a little in regards to the vaulting of lineman.

2) The Browns defensive line is still very bad. Shaun Rogers is very strong and tough to deal with, but he seems to always go for the big hit and he has no speed. He got to Big Ben a few times, but Willie side-stepped him and the rest of the D-line several times. The Browns need more speed on defense and this game pointed out the Browns major flaws, their D-line and their corners. The corners had trouble covering Holmes and Ward all night, even with Ward dropping several passes (which usually never happens).

3) Braylon Edwards is an excellent athlete and has a knack for getting open, but the guy has "stone hands." I think he may actually set the record for drops this season if he keeps going this way. If I were a Browns fan I would not be too happy with him.

4) Big Ben, regardless of what other posters on this board will have you believe, is one of the top quarterbacks in the league. He continues to make something out of nothing and with him healthy the Steelers will always be a contender. With that being said, let's hope the shoulder injury is not worse than previously mentioned. The two guys the Steelers cannot afford to lose are Big Ben and Troy Polamalu, they are an average team without these guys and a Super Bowl contender with them.

5) Overall, I think this game showed that the Steelers are the better team, but the Browns still have promise. I think the biggest issues with the Browns in this order are: the D-line, the corners, and the health of the recievers. I truly believe this game would have been a little different if Stallworth was healthy and not played in a hurricane. The Browns are a very good team, they just can't seem to get all of the pieces to fit together at once. Some Steelers fans will say it was an ugly game and an ugly win, but realistically the Steelers dominated this game on the ground and should have put up more points (i.e. Ward drops, protecting the lead, etc.). With that being said, the Browns were still in the game and could have just as easily won if Edwards knew how to catch the ball. As long as the Steelers can consistently run the ball against the Browns and stop the Browns running attack, this rivalry will remain one sided. The Polamalu interception was a product of the Steelers not respecting the Browns running game and Polamalu jumping the route. As they say it is back to the drawing board for the Browns, but with the Steelers brutal schedule, all hope is not lost in Cleveland.

This would go in the OTHERS category...

What about that call in the Denver game?  What should be the fitting punishment, if anything, for the ref?

Good question Grendel. I think the Ed Hochuli, who is an amazing referee and a big guy, absolutely blew the call. With that being said, stuff happens and I think Ed is already being punished enough in the media. The guy regularly is voted among the best refs in the league and he does not deserve any further action. That is one of the things that is great about sports, there is still a human element and you never know what is going to happen.

Wrong, that is why instant replay was introduced, to omit bad calls(which do happen) from affecting the game and possibly a team's season if they were to miss the playoffs by one game. This could conceivably happen to the Chargers who are the best 0-2 team this year, should be 1-1. The rule will be changed this off season. This call should have been made since it was reviewed.

Bad call by a top ref, worse call not reversing it after the review even though that is the rule. But you won't read this cause your afraid to be told your wrong Track,as usual.

It is easy to make it a reviewable call, just make it possible for a team to challenge the possession of the ball on any play. They can only get 3 per half making them valuable challenges anyway.

On where they get the ball, see the receiver from Dallas tonight, he stupidly let go of the ball on the 1 and they place it at the 1 yard line because that was the rule in the books. They can make it the spot of the drop if the whistle is blown, if not and the opposing team run it back for so many yards they place it there. If he goes in for the TD then the players should have played to the whistle.

That ball should have been placed in the Chargers possession at the point where the player went out of bounds. It will be changed.
