Wow, it took you all of a week to backtrack from your original statement about the Steelers signing Leftwich. Shocking to say the least.quote:
ORIGINAL: track2514 Beerman The Steelers looked pretty solid for a preseason game. Here are my thoughts: 1) The Steelers O-Line continues to impress (regardless of what ESPN tells us). Minus the one play that resulted in the Big Ben int and a few breakdowns that seemed to be because of miscommunication they looked strong. Hartwig should be the new center for the Steelers, Mahan continues to stink the place up. Did you see how much time Ben had when he threw the bomb to Santonio? 2) Special teams problems are back. Why can't we cover anyone? 3) Mendenhall is better than advertised, looked very strong again. If he keeps playing this way he will split carries with Fast Willie. 4) Roethlisberger is still a beast and that pass he had to Hines that made the top ten on sportscenter was insane. I have never seen a quarterback consistently make the plays under pressure that he does. 5) Santonio Holmes and Dennis Dixon are fast, very fast. I think we should use Dixon as the next slash. I am not sold on his abilities as a QB, but the guy can play. Disregard my previous Tee Martin comparison, Dennis Dixon = The next Kordell Stewart. Let's just hope Dixon is ok with the role, unlike Kordell. 6) Leftwhich looked slow and out of shape. Let's hope this is just rust and the guy will get better. 7) I have said it before and I will say it again, the Steelers pass defense is in trouble without Polamalu. Get well soon Troy or we are in for a long season. 8) Finally, the Steelers looked ok but I am concerned about the pass coverage. It will be very tough to compete against the Browns and other top passing offenses without defensive backs that can press. With Tyrone Carter, Ryan Clark, and Anthony Smith rotating in there at safety, our Db's are having to stay back and those cushions are making it tough. Plus I have not seen very many blitzes from the safety position and I think that is also due to Troy being hurt. Oh well, the situation is what it is and I would rather have Polamalu out now than during the real season, but it is concerning that he is hurt already. Overall, I would give the Steelers an 8/10 for this performance and let's hope they continue to improve.
