Update: Still no promising leads. His mom was on the local news last night. She stated that there are 3 billboards in the county with his case and reward info. on them. Five more are set to go up in the region.  All the billboard space is donated. My hat's off to the billboard advertisers. OTH

In my world, this event has just proven to me that my untrusting nature and general dis-like of human contact while out hunting is warranted.  I've taken to socializing more and more while fishing, but hunting?  NO WAY!

Anything could've happened, but one thing for sure is another human being had something to do with this.

Again, good luck with with your search for answers.

Just curious. Was lee confrontational person.I mean that if someone was showing bad etiquette would he speak up?What kind of bullet was it?Hand gun or rifle? Was it close range or from afar?I wounder if it was a disgruntal hunter. We all feel compassion for this sad event.Very sorry for his family and your loss.

He was very mellow. Definately not confrontational. If backed into a corner, he could handle himself. He had a black belt in martial arts, and was very disciplined. He never bragged or boasted or even really talked about having such skills. Very modest.

The news reports said it was 9mm. I would assume it was a handgun. 9mm rifles just aren't that popular. As far as distance, police are not releasing that info.

As far as a disgruntled hunter, it possibly could have been. Was somebody trying to rob him? Was it a random drive-by for an initiation into a gang? It's really hard to try and figure it out when you don't know all the information. The police, like in any serious investigation, keep certain parts of the evidence confidential until they go to trial.

what a shame...........hope the police are doing their job and collecting every little bit of possible evidence they can find........certainly sounds like a wrong place wrong time situation......nowadays there is no respect for law enforcement so hurting or killing a regular person is not a problem for way too many people out there

sad sad story.........giving my kiddies extra kisses tonight

hope the family is doing the best they can.....there is nothing that can be said to ease the pain and not knowing the real story does not make things any easier...

so sorry for their loss............hope they catch the folks responsible

Today marks the six month anniversary of his death. The family was interviewed in today's newspaper. Once again, the family and police are looking for information to help solve Lee's murder. There's no new information. Police are still asking for anyone with any information to report it. All calls will be kept confidential. The $10,000+ reward is still there for information leading to the arrest of the person(s?) who murdered Lee.

Sunday there was a fundraiser / bike ride for his son's college fund and reward fund. There was a good turnout of people. Here's a link to the story in the local paper: http://www.poconorecord.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080825/NEWS/808250328

Also:http://pahomepage.com/content/fulltext/?cid=41381 America's Most Wanted: http://www.amw.com/fugitives/case.cfm?id=54687

The local paper has been good with keeping the story on the front pages so to speak. We need to keep getting exposure to the crime so it is not forgotten and somebody somewhere will come forward with information.

I saw his mom and sister recently. It is very hard to describe the emotions and feelings while we were talking. It's pure devastation. No parent should ever have to go through the loss of their son/daughter let alone being murdered and not have any answers as to who or why.

Hypsie Gap road, Monroe County, PA. Nothing new to report. Public is still being asked for information/help. Atleast a $10,000 reward.

Bolt, nothing new. If the detectives have any leads they aren't saying which is understandable. I miss seeing his son. Last I heard, his fiance' was living in Maryland. Knowing Lee, he would have taken his son out this year for mentored turkey season. He loved his son more than life itself. His son was his whole world. A great dad.

Hopefully somebody somewhere will come up with info to solve it (his murder).

I appreciate everyone's interest in helping find the murderer. Here's the latest release Lee's mom made in today's local paper.

http://www.poconorecord.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090525/NEWS/905250318

By Andrew ScottPocono Record WriterMay 25, 2009 imgCounter += 1; aryImgs[imgCounter] = "http://images.poconorecord.com/apps/pbcsi.dll/bilde?Site=PR&Date=20090525&Category=NEWS&ArtNo=905250318&Ref=V1&MaxW=200&MaxH=180&title=1&border=0"; aryCaps[imgCounter] = "Charlene%20Sebring%20of%20Bartonsville%20is%20the%20mother%20of%20Lee%20Van%20Luvender%2C%20who%20was%20killed%20on%20Dec.%204%2C%202007%2C%20while%20hunting%20in%20Tunkhannock%20Township. FILE PHOTO/Pocono Record"; aryZooms[imgCounter] = "javascript: NewWindow(870,625,window.document.location+'&Template=photos&img="+imgCounter+"')";

On June 4, it will be 18 months since hunter Lee Van Luvender of Bartonsville was found slain in Tunkhannock Township.
On the morning of Dec. 4, 2007, another hunter found Van Luvender's body lying in the snow outside his Jeep near Hypsie Gap Road and Tunkhannock Creek. Van Luvender had been shot multiple times.
No one has been arrested and police are still investigating. Using billboards to advertise a $10,000 reward offered for any information and contacting "America's Most Wanted" so far have yielded no results.Van Luvender's mother, Charlene Sebring, doesn't want the public to forget her son, that his family is still waiting for justice and that his 3-year-old son, Sean, is left with just photos of and stories about him.
Sebring said the emotional pain of losing Van Luvender has caused or worsened health problems in her family.
"I'm still just taking it one day at a time," she said. "That's all I can do. It's faith that keeps me going, faith that there will be justice for my son one day."

Sebring recently wrote the following letter, asking to have it publicized:

"This letter is to the person or people who murdered my son, Lee Van Luvender, on Dec. 4, 2007.
You took away his smile, laughter and jokes. He was his sisters' and my best friend. You took him from us. You must do the right thing and turn yourself in. To anyone who knows anything that might help police, please come forward.
To whomever murdered my son, every time you hear a baby cry, see Lee's face on a billboard or hear a gunshot during hunting season, he is haunting you. He will haunt you for the rest of your life unless you turn yourself in. Don't forget, when you look in the mirror, he is right there with you.
The time is coming when you will pay for your crime, in this life or the next. God will give me justice and you will answer to Him. Every time you close your eyes, your loss of sleep is the burden upon your soul.
On this day, May 16, 2009, I give you the burden of all the pain you have caused me and my family. Turn yourself in. Give me and my family closure.
All of us pray for closure and peace in the Poconos."
Rest in peace, my beloved son, Lee."

Anything OTH?  I think the initiation into a gang idea could be a very real possibility.  It sounds so random.  I know it may sound ridiculous, but have they tried a psychic? You see those shows on T.V. where they can figure things out when there appears to be no real leads.  I have trouble buying into that sort of thing, but desperate times call for desparate measures.  I really hope they can find peace.

Tip, still nothing. Random act? Could very well be possible. Gang activity has been increasing more and more every year in this county. Nobody has any answers. As far as a psychic, I haven't heard of any being used. At this point, I think it would be worth looking into. Very carefully though.

Today is Lee's birthday, 7-14-1985. He would have been 24.

Hi everyone- My name is Leah, I am Lee's fiance and mother of his son.  I searched Lee's name online as I do at least 3 times a week to see if there is anything new and came accross this forum.  Thank you so much OTH for starting this, (I wish I knew who you are).  This is the only forum that has kept going since my fiance's murder.  I don't have any real updates, I am in touch with the detectives on a regular basis. They reassure me that this will NEVER turn into a cold case.  I won't let it!  I am meeting with the lead detective tomorrow to discuss the case.  If there is anything to report I will let you know.  Again thank you for the support.

For anyone who is interested there will be another bike benefit on Saturday August 16th.  Below is the flyer Lee's dad put together.
