On Tuesday December 4, 2007, a very good friend of mine, Lee VanLuvender, 22, was shot multiple times and murderd on Hypsy Gap Road in the Long Pond area of Monroe County PA. He was hunting alone and found dead next to his Jeep parked by the creek on Bethleham Watershed property.

This area is a very popular hunting area, it is adjacent to SGL 38. Many people from around the state go there to hunt a variety of game from bear to snowshoe rabbit. This happened on the second Tuesday of traditional buck season.

Someone outhere knows something somewhere. The reason I'm asking for help is if a hunter or passer by was in the area that day and lives in another part of the state, they could possibly have seen something, but not know what happened because their local news didn't cover it.

Police are asking for anyone with any possible information to contact them @ 570-895-2400.

ALL CALLS WILL BE KEPT STRICTLY COFIDENTIAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lee was a true outdoorsman. He hunted and fished like very few young men do today. From catching native brookies in the creeks, waterfowl hunting, taking his little sister out muzzeloading, he truly loved the outdoors. He was a very hardworking responsable young man. A son that any parent would hope for and one of the most loving and proud fathers I've ever seen.

He leaves behind a two year old son, fiance', parents, and sisters.

I posted this in the Erie forum to get some attention throught the region. Many people read these forums and may not aprticipate in talking online, but may know something. There is over $10,000 raised so far for a reward from friends and loved ones for info. leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsable. Kick around the topic with your friends at work, home, watering hole, wherever. Articles for more information can be found at www.poconorecord.com or www.mcall.com.  I'm not good at posting links on the forum so if someone takes the time to search "murderd hunter" in either paper and post the link I would be grateful.

Somebody outhere knows something about this tragedy. Do the RIGHT thing and help the P.D. solve this matter so the family and loved ones can begin to have some healing.

I thank you all for taking the time to read this. OTH

My condolences also.

Was anything taken like his rifle or wallet?  Was he hunting that day with anyone or just out hunting alone?

I hope some answers come to light for you and his family to get some closure.

God bless...

151, I thank you very much for posting the article and condolences.

Funny, there was no article in today's paper, only on the internet. There were a slew of articles when it first happened and as time goes on, it seems to get forgotton about in the press. Glad to see the article keping people aware of it.

I am very glad to see such quick interest and responses from board members. There's so many helpful good people on these boards that it would be great if someone can help with catching the          person(s). We don't know if there was 1 or more actors involved.  OTH

Real shame, definentaly makes me think being as he was so close to my age.

this place he was hunting, was it in a remote region? You say theres bear there, so leads me to believe it was.

I'll definently mention it. Hope they find the bastard that did it.

My Condolences.  This is truly a tragedy someone this young has to pass participating in such a traditional sport.

I hope justice is served.

401, It's a fairly remote area for Monroe County, nearest house is about a mile and a half away.

From the news releases he did return fire on his aggressor... Is it possible he hit his attacker with return fire? Could he have hit the attackers vehicle and it has a bullet hole in it? There are so many questions that need to be answerd. All the news stations  from Scranton have been running the newstory about the increase in the reward. Hopefully somebody comes foward with information.  $10,000 isn't chump change. The family and loved ones would be eternally grateful for help catch the person. OTH

I find it hard to believe that he was shot by a hunter, but who knows? My thought on this is that he came across some bad actors that were in that area, drug dealers?Somehow things went bad and he is dead.Just my opinion, but who knows.I find it surprising that there is n't more news about this in the Lehigh Valley papers.

PA, hunter vs. hunter shootings are extremly rare, but possible. Maybe a hunter was driving by and saw something going there and has information to what he saw. The road is taveled pretty good. It's a major shorcut from Jackson/Chestnuthill twsp. to Long Pond. As far as drugs, possible he saw something he shouldn't have. As for him with drugs, no way. He was straight and clean. I've known the kids for many years and he NEVER gave me any reason to think he was on dope. He was clean.

As far as press coverage, Mornig Call had a good article about him back in Dec. This is why I posted it on here, to get the word out of the Poconos and throughout the tri-state area and the whole mid-atlantic region for that matter. Spread the word.

Poconos are not what they use to be. Yesterday on Rt. 80 and 380, a woman's body was found dismembered in atleast 8 garbage bags. The bags were found strewn along the highways from Stroudsburg to Covington Twsp. in Lackawanna County. We never had as much crime as we do now. The area is really going down-hill. OTH

If it was an accident hopefully some1 will not be able to bare the pain and come forth with their sorrow...

Sounds like their may be a psycho in them woods.....

Find what make and model the gun was that was stolen...maybe even a number on it if you can...If it had a scope what kind...or anything unique try to find out about it.  If the gun was stolen the suspect may try to hock it.  Notify the gun shops, pawn shops, ect, of a possible rifle that may lead to finding the cause of this man's death.

That way if a remington or a winchester resembling the hunters stolen gun comes through the door trying to be sold they will be on the lookout...Stolen guns are taken very seriously...

Aside from increasing the reward getting more press, and awareness (which is good ), it's a d@mned shame that a reward need be offered at all. Speaks volumns on our society.

If his gun was stolen, you need to get a description of the gun & serial #, if possible. The gun might turn up & create some leads.

Once again, I appreciate all the interest in this forum. Spread the word, maybe it will rattle someone's cage outhere.

The P.D. is handling the gun issue. Most local gun shop are well aware of it.

Your right Marty about todays society. However, a person like the killer will usually run in the same circles with his own kind. The old saying birds of a feather flock together. So maybe one of his "buddies" needs a quick buck and will turn him in. Hopefully. Personally if it was me that new something to lead to a conviction, I'd give the money to his 2 year old son for his future. Set up some kind of trust.

Really makes a person think about hunting alone. We've all done it in the past, that's part of the hunting experience by being alone with mother nature. Now it really is concerning. Personally I usually carried concealed before and will make it a point to always carry in the future.

Seeing his son, knowing he'll never know his father puts more than a lump in our throats. It is very sad.

It was really strange not having Lee give me a call and tell me about his hunting this year (buck season). Where he went, saw, shot. He was kind of like a special nephew to me. Calling, asking advice on where to go (secret spots), and then calling back on how he made out. Gonna be tough to fill his shoes.... OTH

I feel for you Over the Hill, as well as for his family.  Its a shame good people have to die, particularly at the hands of a seemingly heartless, godlless individual.  I hope they catch this person before they do it again.

PA, I couldn't agree more. Mayor Barletta from Hazelton is thinking of running for congress against Kanjorski. I think it would be a landslide. People are really discusted with certain policies and having our reps. from congress do nothing. I would vote for him, he's a fighter! OTH

February 01, 2008
I would like to thank the public for all of their support at this time.
And thank the Pocono Mountain Regional Police.

I would like to remind the public that there is a $10,000 reward to anyone who
provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction.
Lee is missed so, but he lives in our hearts forever. We the public need to give Lee justice.
We all have to remember this could of happened to your son.

May the burden lay heavy on your heart and turn yourself in.
