Anyone getting any crappie at Shenango??

redneck steel -> RE: Shenango (1/22/2008 5:15:51 PM)

Not that I am aware of.  Golden run had about 3" of ice about 10 yards off the boat ramp.  There were 9 guys fishin this morning.  I wasn't one of them.  I hopefully will be out there this weekend. Can't wait.

rapala11 -> RE: Shenango (1/23/2008 12:31:41 AM)

red, were they on the ice?

parker31 -> RE: Shenango (1/23/2008 10:09:37 AM)

anyone out today

redneck steel -> RE: Shenango (1/23/2008 10:37:58 AM)

Rap 11, those guys were on the ice.  Some were straight out from the ramp, some were out to the left, and a few were behind the island when you first turn on the hard top.  Chauncy posted on another thread that two guys fell through yesterday, not sure how far out they were but none the less they fell through.

Parker, I wouldn't doubt that people are fishin it right now.  I think I will be out this weekend.  Sunday for sure.

Please be safe if you venture out!

rapala11 -> RE: Shenango (1/23/2008 11:29:09 AM)

little scary.  i work over by mosquito and it still had a lot of open water.

gonefishin -> RE: Shenango (1/23/2008 12:22:28 PM)

Based on the latest 15 day forecast, the ice outlook is not good.  Lots of 40s and maybe even 50s will be coming after this weekend + rain.  Looks like the auger may not come out this year.  I'm not game for outdoor swimming at this time of the year.

redneck steel -> RE: Shenango (1/23/2008 3:46:11 PM)

Took a look agian at golden run.  Didn't fish.  There was a few more guys today than yesterday.  Walked out and talked with a couple of guys fishin and the ice there was about 4".  They caught a few small ones early and that was it.  I will be out friday morning.  There were 2 guys fishing off the swim beach.  Nobody at celery farm.  Nobody at hartford access, but there was a hole drilled and the ice was about 3-3.5".  Talked to a guy and said that there was 4-4.5" at wihelm.

parker31 -> RE: Shenango (1/25/2008 11:31:38 AM)

Fished this morning 6:00-11:30.  Got 2 light taps and one perch and that was it.  Not many fish caught around 20 guys fishing when I left.  Ice was 4"-4.5" where I fished.  Will be out there this evening and after dark.  Black cabelas shanty.  I wear a blaze orange/tree limb parka.  Name is Joe.  Come say hey if ya like.  Good luck.

redneck steel -> RE: Shenango (1/25/2008 9:44:11 PM)

Fished tonight. Golden run. Got 7 crappie between 5:00 and 5:15 - 5:20 and that was it.  3 were keepers, the biggest was 11.25"  Jig and maggots.  Will be out tomorrow.  Good luck.

MuskyMastr -> RE: Shenango (1/25/2008 11:59:02 PM)

Funny redneck.....I got 14.....all between 4:50  and 5:30....then that was it......I could mark them before and after but not get a nibble.....Golden run as well.

redneck steel -> RE: Shenango (1/26/2008 12:17:30 PM)

Fished it again this morning and got 5 small ones.  No keepers.  Jig and maggots.  About 6ft down.  Alot of guys didn't hear of anybody doing all that well.  Hope sunday is better.  Good luck.

redneck steel -> RE: Shenango (1/29/2008 12:02:39 PM)

Fished hartford access last night and the ice there is the same as golden run (3.5" - 4").  Got 7.  Crappie and a few bluegill mixed in.  No keepers.  Nothing after dark.  Shore ice there is gettin soft.  Started to sink on me when I was getting off.  Celery farm has about the same ice maybe a little thinner.  The shore ice there isn't any better.  Guys have been going out and fishing pretty much anywhere.  Saw 4 guys fishing the swim beach.

Mikastorm -> RE: Shenango (1/30/2008 10:41:07 AM)

Fished yesterday from 2:30 to 5 and caught 12 gills ,4perch, 12 crappie(5-keepers 11-14). Golden run area, not with anyone else till almost 4 when a young man showed up. He took my hole when i left. Single magot with a small chart. jig. Barely moved the spring bobber.

redneck steel -> RE: Shenango (1/30/2008 11:12:15 AM)

Mika, how was the ice?  I looked at it yesterday around 1:00 or so and there were two guys fishing.  Shore ice didn't look good.

Mikastorm -> RE: Shenango (1/30/2008 2:46:22 PM)

There was alot of water on top with the river rising. I fell threw as I was stepping off. It needs to freeze up again,  but had the itch and walked gingerly. I didn,t park by the ramp, but did see 2 other fellows out. Two trucks were parked by me and these 2 came off the ice the same time I did.
They said they did alright but that was it.

MuskyMastr -> RE: Shenango (1/30/2008 10:53:19 PM)

Anyone on it today?

PONDSCUM -> RE: Shenango (1/31/2008 1:49:03 PM)

Mikastorm -> RE: Shenango (2/1/2008 2:28:38 PM)

Dwayne, If your coming from Sharon on rt.18 go n. till youcome to The Tara , penn power will be across the street at the light. Turn right, that is 258. Go about 3 miles and Golden run will be on the left. The launch is the most popular spot to fish.
To get to the celery farm , go past the Tara and cross over the lake. Take the turn off, a little up hill from east lake road. Cut across 18 and head s. then right onto West Lake road. Go past the camp grounds, threw a curve, then left onto w. Lake rd. Go threw the S curve and the parking lot will be on your left. Walk along the wire to the point and anywhere out there is good.

chauncy -> RE: Shenango (2/2/2008 7:17:28 PM)

How's the shoreline holding up. The lake level has risen almost a half foot in the last few days.

Mikastorm -> RE: Shenango (2/2/2008 8:00:20 PM)

Haven,t be out, but maybe tomorrow. Let you know. It was getting bad the other day.

MuskyMastr -> RE: Shenango (2/3/2008 11:45:52 AM)

You need a board or ladder to get on but the ice was still great as of last night & this morning.

redneck steel -> RE: Shenango (2/3/2008 9:05:32 PM)

Will be out in the morning.  Behind the island maybe.  Not sure.  Will let ya know what happens.

redneck steel -> RE: Shenango (2/4/2008 8:40:31 PM)

Didn't make it out this morning.  Fished tonight from 4-7.  Golden run.  Got around 20, kept 7.  Biggest 11.5", the rest around 9.5 - 10".  Red jig and 2 maggots.  Ice around 5" but the shore line is getting bad.  Couldn't make it out to behind the island , shore ice not good.  There were 3 people fishing it though.  60 degrees tomorrow with rain, wee need another cold snap!!

slabside -> RE: Shenango (2/5/2008 12:00:02 PM)

Is this rain the end of  the ice on shenango?????????

redneck steel -> RE: Shenango (2/5/2008 7:12:28 PM)

I honestly don't think the ice will completely dissappear, but were not gonna be able to fish it for a while.  The shore ice is bad and today and tomorrow aren't gonna help any at all.  Took a ride out to the lake today.  The planks are gone at the golden run boat ramp.  We have lost some shore ice just over night.  Not a ton but there is a wider gap between shore and the ice mid today compared to last night.  There was about 5" where I was fishing lastnight.  The forcast is calling for a cold weekend with highs of 20 and 18 for saturday and sunday, and lows of 5 and 10 above for sat. and sun. night.  Think cold and hope. Bout all we can do now.

flirod4evr -> RE: Shenango (2/5/2008 9:46:51 PM)

Dont get me wrong, I would love to go ice fishing with some good ice before ice out but I'd be just as happy having a couple 45 degree days when the river is a little lower ie. 3 or 4 gates and go down there.

redneck steel -> RE: Shenango (2/6/2008 5:23:45 PM)

Saw the lake today and with what I saw, I think our ice fishing season has ended.  The lake has risin probably 5ft, maybe 6 since monday.  Hartford access has about 15 feet of open water between shore and ice.  And the ice doesn't look any thicker than about an inch, if that.  There is alot of open water through out the lake and it will take atleast a week of good cold weather to get any kind of safe ice.  The river in sharpsville was stocked with trout today.   The water is super muddy.
