nut -> RE: Sayers dam. (12/21/2007 7:32:45 AM)

no a buddy of mine said it was still looking full, we might try ice fishing there this winter, any suggestions, we usually go to black moshannon state park but it gets kinda hit or miss.

STEALYS4ME -> RE: Sayers dam. (12/21/2007 10:27:50 AM)

Ya id like to try it through the ice myself sometime.  And if i was going out id try just above the howard bridge in the deeper pockets fish may be holding there.

nut -> RE: Sayers dam. (12/22/2007 8:53:15 AM)

its 23 feet below the bridge, and 30 feet at the narrows at hunters run. i don't know of any place deeper

STEALYS4ME -> RE: Sayers dam. (12/22/2007 11:53:06 AM)

Thats where i would start.  Fish will be holding in the deeper pockets good luck when u go out.

When I drove by last week to pick my brother up from LHU the lake was starting to ice over in the middle. Don't know what it's like now,  I expect it's going to be awhile till the ice is safe enough to go out on.

some" idiots" are ice fishing at black moshannon, my buddy was on the ice friday and saturday and caught a few perch.still too thin for us. don't need to take a cold bath.

STEALYS4ME -> RE: Sayers dam. (12/24/2007 1:31:31 AM)

To soon for that need about a week of sub zero weather for good ice.  I dont feel comfortable until the ice is aleast 8 inchs and the cracking is nerve racking.

Any updates? I know Parker Damn is good, and I'm going to check out Curwensville Lake out tomorrow. Hoping to get out to sayers wednesday possibly.

jlh42581 -> RE: Sayers dam. (1/28/2008 5:30:13 PM)

Today it hit 40, my guess is its prob a no go although bald eagle creek had ice on it.

pxatim -> RE: Sayers dam. (1/28/2008 6:14:45 PM)

yeah that was my one worry. I'm kind of leary about going out on the ice even when I know it's safe.

9-12 inchers???? usually at sayers they are between 7 1/2- 8 3/4 inches just below the minimum. i have gotten some 10-14" crappies out of there, but that is a rarity.

STEALYS4ME -> RE: Sayers dam. (2/28/2008 11:57:21 AM)

Just called up there and dcnr reported that most of the lake is open damm.................

cabst119 -> RE: Sayers dam. (2/29/2008 11:18:56 AM)

I like catching a few 12"-15" crappies in a day rather than catching 100 -  8"crappies, so I fish accordingly.  Anywhere else I can catch a few nice ones in a day but never at Howard.

STEALYS4ME -> RE: Sayers dam. (3/1/2008 4:33:43 PM)

soon the fish will be there need some warming and they will be there..

cabst119 -> RE: Sayers dam. (3/5/2008 12:20:26 PM)

How is the fishing in the river below the dam?  Anyone ever float this and fish ?  What kind of fish - mostly smallmouth and rock bass ?

STEALYS4ME -> RE: Sayers dam. (3/5/2008 9:45:46 PM)

Never tryed it. it would be good now i bet??.

nut -> RE: Sayers dam. (3/6/2008 6:57:46 AM)

different sections have different fish. the riffles will hold trout, the deep outside holes may have channel cats, etc. i've only fished down about a mile or so, but there is some nice water. there is a path looking downstream on the lefthand side.
