Skip16503 -> Where would you go??? (11/7/2007 7:52:07 PM)

Lets say you lived in Erie.....  Got tired of catching Steelhead...  Yea it does happen

And lets say you wanted to go within a 2 or 3 hour drive of Erie to catch some fish..Probably Trout

Where would you go????

Esox_Hunter -> RE: Where would you go??? (11/7/2007 8:01:51 PM)

Central PA's limestoners, the obvious choice.  It would be on the longer side of your time specifications though.

rapala11 -> RE: Where would you go??? (11/8/2007 12:25:23 AM)

i was up at pymatuning sunday afternoon and talked to a couple of oldtimers who were perch fishing.  they said it was about to start anytime.  since the demise of the walleye fishery, the perch have increased in size.

crappiefisher -> RE: Where would you go??? (11/8/2007 12:57:07 AM)

After some wild Brookies in Clearfield, Elk & Cameron County.

doski -> RE: Where would you go??? (11/8/2007 4:37:02 AM)

hivue05 -> RE: Where would you go??? (11/8/2007 5:13:51 AM)

the allegheny river for a mixed bag of walleye and trout.
second choice,the clarion river.

dealinsteel -> RE: Where would you go??? (11/8/2007 7:53:00 AM)

Lake Pleasant throwin Cleo's!!  That lake has some nice trout in it, and doesn't get a ton of people fishin it this time of the year...

fisherofmen376 -> RE: Where would you go??? (11/8/2007 10:44:38 AM)

i would go to the youghigheny river near dawson or the allegheny river in venango county.  Great smallmouth action on either river, fu to catch on the fly.

STEALYS4ME -> RE: Where would you go??? (11/8/2007 11:49:23 AM)

Kinzue Creek in Westline. The Inn has great burgers and beer.[image]http://forums.fishusa.com/micons/m16.gif[/image]

beerman -> RE: Where would you go??? (11/8/2007 4:05:46 PM)

I would try another state/area for steelhead.  You just may find some new places to fish without the crowds.  Such as Ohio or even Canada.

Can you still choose dinner out of the fish tank?

Kinzua Creek, Sugar Run along rt 321 East of Kinzua dam or the C&R area near Pitt Bradford Campus.

Tailwaters of the dam are also good.

kayak99 -> RE: Where would you go??? (11/8/2007 7:07:24 PM)

Hickory Creek for wild brookies.  Penns Creek in Central PA for trout.  Pymatuning, French Creek or the Allegheny River for other species.

pappy69 -> RE: Where would you go??? (11/8/2007 8:21:38 PM)

Lake Pleasant.

doubletaper -> RE: Where would you go??? (11/8/2007 10:08:29 PM)

skip, try below the kinzu dam at the welcome center. skip the deep water and fish the fast and riffles just below the deep water. we were there in sept. and had a field day with caddis dries and buggers for 3 weekends strait. most of the trout were rainbows between 9"-12". but we've heard of bigger browns caught in that area. try an olive or white weighted wooly bugger or a thunder creek shiner this time of year. good luck, if you go let me know how ya did, it's closer to the kinzu for me than erie. 95% of my fish'n is for trout. love'em ~doubletaper

They''re still drawing down the pool and with the bottom release, its been high, fast and about 6 inches of visibility.
And pretty darn cold there along the wall.

Which means the big fish are eating.  You may only get a couple but they'll be bruisers if you put your time in.  Although, if you're fly fishing it may be tough.

JSHAFish -> RE: Where would you go??? (11/10/2007 7:37:22 PM)

What gate height or amount of water being let out is the best time to go below Kinzua dam ???
Don't want to go when it's gushing even though the big ones are biting. like a nice drift
Thinking abiout trying the new dock put in over by the hatchery, sounds cool a slong as it's not crowded.
Haven't fished below the dam in 10 or so years, usually fish Tionesta outflow Sat/Sun before first day of buck, or the river near Kibbe's
Want to go up Sarturday/Sunday and try for " anything".

nightowl207 -> RE: Where would you go??? (11/11/2007 12:23:36 AM)

french creek. definitely one of the best fishing waters in pa. my family has fished these waters for over 100yrs. some of the biggest fish ive ever seen are caught in french creek. ive never been much further north than venango. i know it travels clear through into new york by jamestown. anyone ever fished it further north than venango.

bingsbaits -> RE: Where would you go??? (11/12/2007 6:53:30 AM)

There are some nice trout in Justus Lake. You should see the Tiger Muskies that feed on those trout...

stevepf -> RE: Where would you go??? (11/12/2007 9:39:33 AM)

I've only caught small Muskies from there.Had 1 hit a Trout I had just hooked, didn't have him on very long.I saw a huge Muskie pulled thru the ice a few years back.

I see some real potential here.  After fighting that big steelhead yesterday, I might be leaning toward tiger muskies, but that's not set in stone.

spoonchucker -> RE: Where would you go??? (11/12/2007 4:23:19 PM)

Niagara river. It's a whole new Steelie experience. Kinzua tailwaters is another good. Keep "threatening" to fish French creek, but never seem to get it done.

There are no fish left in French Creek. They moved to Pittsburgh to see how the other half lives!

Trout About -> RE: Where would you go??? (11/12/2007 10:02:05 PM)

Definately the Niagara.

Big Indian -> RE: Where would you go??? (11/13/2007 10:48:43 AM)

Slippery Rock Creek.  There are alot of great spots and nice size trout.  McConnels Mill is a really good spot but be careful because the rocks are slippery and it can be dangerous if you fall in.

fisherofmen376 -> RE: Where would you go??? (11/13/2007 12:06:27 PM)

Yeah Slippery Rock Creek is great.  beautiful area, no outside interference, peaceful.  Like he said though, they don't call it "slippery" for nothing...
