Will be heading up this weekend for the first time in a month. Need
to get away from work and unwind. What would be a good starting
point on Elk to catch some steel? Is it Friday yet???

Unless the rains bring some fish you may want to start at the mouth and work NORTH... at least there's fish in that direction that haven't seen everything known to man this year... I'm going up on Thursday, so i'll know better when I get there.
