No, I personally don't need anyone spreading the benjamins around. I need to be able to walk up the stream that I grew up on without finding the trash left behind or fish behind someone who has decided to walk up the middle of the creek blowing the holes. I need to be able to get away by myself. Maybe its the flashbacks to when we lost places to fish during the salmon days because of out of town slobs--and yes in town slobs too--but I am a little leery about commercializing what I love. Don't get me wrong, I am glad we can help local bait shops; ie I go to Richards or Ultimate instead of Gander or Cabelas.  I try to be polite and helpful to people that I meet. But that does not mean that I want to have the same crowded conditions that we find at the mouth on every bend up to Streuchen Flats. What is paying for the sanitary restrooms? Well, at WC access it is funded by either licenses or PA taxes. On the Peninsula, PA taxes. There is a Country Fair on Fairview and Girard, both are pretty clean...

The Avonia tavern does well as do the rest of the small speciality "beer" shops

only because you buy a case a day when the fishing is good

I was in the Avonia tavern two weeks ago....The gal behind the bar said business was doing ok despite the economy....I am really not surprised at all as the food is good, not expensive and they have friendly service.  Only complaint is the godawful Yingling beer on tap....Haven't had to drink that swill since my college days at IUP in the early 1980s.

The health department should demolish those latrines at elk access....I think the filth is a legitamate health issue.

I am seeing evidence that the economy is about to take off though unemployment will get a little worse before it gets better....For you folks with an understanding of economics, the money velocity has turned up....folks are spending again....last time this happened following a steep dive was 2003....a couple years later, we were in a boom time....It's gonna happen again.

Okay, so I don't know if you listen to our news at all, but there was talk about 2 months ago, that they were going to close Elk Creek Access all together. Well they have decided not to, good news for fisherman and the economy. Yes, the bathrooms are bad, but if you are so worried that you might have to ****, bring some TP, it won't kill ya to squat in the woods somewhere. Or like someone else said, we have a country fair or BP that both have facilities that you can use. I wish that one day you would think about not being such a pumpas JERK to everyone, and just be thankful for what we do have. One day you may be in the same situation that most of the people in Erie County are in. So quit judging us, or stay where you BELONG!

what difference does it make that some erie locals don't know anything about steelhead? Why can't you just go fishing, and act like a normal human being, pick up your litter, and don't treble hook the fish? With that being said, aren't the Erie tribs stock-fed bow streams anyway? Go to the pacific northwest(which i have never done) and fish for NATIVE steelhead!

did someone say spending was up ? according to the news , spending dropped lower this quarter than last quarter as home sales even fell ! as far as the bathrooms , its mind over matter , if your catching fish u really don't think about having to take a dump ,or being cold , or bored etc, but if u can't catch fish then ur in trouble and in that case u mise well sit on the porcelain !

You guys would be surprized how many erie locals dont know what a steelhead is.
they live in 300k-500k homes and could not care any less about fisherman tourism.

its sad you people only know "erie" as a place to fill your freezer easily.

My fishing partner and I have seen many of those homes while driving around and we continually wonder " What do all of those people do for a living in Erie ?" There are only so many physicians , lawyers , judges, "old money ", drug dealers and wise investing in the stock market and there seems to be a large abundance of those homes . The economy at Erie , the economy most of the population is in , wouldn't support that kind of lifestyle . It is a serious question .

5000, the number of these high end homes/sub divisions have exploded around the erie area, and they're still developing. These people have to be in debt up to their keesters and beyond. My seniority in the PO got me a route in one of the more affluent areas and I can't figure it out either. Between the lots and houses, your'e looking at $300,000 on up. The kids get off the bus in private/parochial school uniforms, 2 or 3 cars in the driveway. The house itself gets hundreds, and I mean hundreds of catalogs a year, and the lady of the house is usually home (read single income) to receive the multitudes of packages they ordered. Besides myself, UPS and FedEx are always in the neighborhood. I don't wonder anymore how they do it or why they do it, hey more power to 'em. I'm just thankful I don't have to write the checks they do month after month.

it is called upscaling... and even with a modest income, you can do the same...

many of these homes are these people's 3rd or 4th home (and probably their last)

start small, pay your bills, work hard and once you get some mortgage capital in a home it is easier to buy a larger home...

at first glance you would just picture some filthy rich guy spending hundreds of thousands of dollars, and getting jealous and envious. This is the reaction the liberal democrat WANTS you to have... as long as people are jealous of each other they will pit against each other. Pitting phony groupings of people against one another is how the statist gains more power to take more of your property and liberty.. very very sad.. don't fall for it...

Common Sense, knowledge and liberty are the three enemy's of the liberal democrat and statist. beware...
