Has anyone tried a Royal Coachman wet fly for steelhead. I just tied some ( fun to tie and look pretty cool ) but only fished them in S Dakota for rainbows. They worked good there but haven't tried them here yet.

I was wondering the same thing. It is one of my "go to" flies for pellet heads. Next trip up, I'm going to give one a try. Bear in mind that on some days fish will take a variety of flies, and on other days you can't buy a hit, no matter what you use.

Sometimes wets can be very effective.
I think I've caught steelhead on every style wet fly i used to carry.
My first year flyfishing for steelhead, wet flies drifted, swung and hung were pretty much all I did. Mostly because all the flies I carried were geared for trout. I remember one of my favorites being a #10 dark cahill wet and hornberg. Store bought flies.
Then I learned tying and found out about yarn eggs, which were much more effective but now I find a little boring to fish.

I've used a royal coachman on one of those Joe's Fly spinners and done very well.

I totally agree....streamers and swinging flies, and even jigging the right jig is much more fun

Yea, I'd much rather swing a fly or streamer. Plus the strikes are def harder. Thanks for the feedback. I'll give them a shot this weekend after I bag a nice buck with my bow.
