Seasons.

Seasons as 6 weekend outings a year 50 feet from your car?

100 days with 8-12 hours of fishing and 5-6 miles of hiking?

200+ days with airport stops and different terrain?

For some of us it is not economically viable to buy waders that are "cheap", because they would not compensate in long run spending.  A wader lasts me about 1.5 - 2 seasons, and those are the ones that are of the higher quality.  If I bought something cheap, chances are I would blow through them pretty quickly, and would have to spend more money replacing than wearing....just my take on it..

I guess you have to sum up what you are going to be doing with waders and how much/where you fish.

I've got a pair of Redington CPS waders that I loved that sprung a leak in the bootie. I'm headed to Erie next week for steelhead and am contemplating a new pair of waders. There are three waders that i'm looking at at this time:

1- Redington CPX Waders $199 with a 2-year warranty
2- LL Bean Rapid River Waders $189 w/ a life-time warranty
3- Orvis Pro Guide 3 Waders on sale for $250 from $350 w/ a life-time warranty

Any thoughts or anyone with good/bad experiences with any of these? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Life Time warranty on the LL Beans?   hmmm  wonder if it is prorated...  Like tires  60k treadlife  50k they offer you $10 per tire So far my Hodgeman wadelites are holding up great (2years) $69.99 ****'s

NOPPPEEE... Wrrronngg!

If you take proper care of mid-level waders, aside from looking as good as KJH or Loomis on the water, they will last you 100 days of adventuring.  If you purchase expensive waders with the knowledge you will be using them in tough terrain circumstances, well you're just a tool in my book.

This coming from someone who doesn't wake up to fish, let alone travel more than 10 miles from Brush Valley.

And as far as looking good, my jacket is dark green and my waders are silver/dark grey....can't clash anymore than that...I don't need to match, I need gear to stand up to what I do with it...

I take care of my waders, but they get shot quick.  As do my boots.  Just something I have came to terms with....I invest enough money into fishing as is on a limited budget, I want something that will last me.

I agree with this totally, but some people don't always wear waders through out the entire year.  Spring through early fall months are shorts and sandals wading time of the year in my book.  If I don't have to wear them, I don't.

So really, maybe half of the time someone fishes could be without wearing waders and therefore your waders would last longer (as long as you take care of them).  And I am an active fishermen, half the fun of it for me is walking, finding new places, and enjoying the outdoors on the tribs or not...

just a thought...

Yes that is true.

Personally, I could care less what anyone wears, I am mainly concerned with what suits my personal needs, as I do not buy waders or equipment for anyone else to use.

Mainly the people that wear Simms or Orvis are the ones that get branded "showoffs" by the Hodge/Beaner guys...it's always a status dispute.  A great majority of the guides in geographical areas conducive to do so wear Simms waders, if not Simms, they are atleast of higher quality.  These guys wear it for a reason, it does what they need it do.  If u can pull off 4 "hard" fishing seasons in something under $100, great.  I can't.

BINGO
then is spawns this "well, guides wear them... so should i" train of thought

personally most SIMMS things i have owned end up being junk...

except the hat, bottle opener, and chapstick... those were nice

Yes, they do, but products from all manufacturers are available at reduced costs to anyone in the retail/service industry side of fishing.  I don't see too many guys wearing too much else....but maybe i'm wrong

And no, it's not....I was just wondering what you meant by that, that's all....

Like I said, good for you who can get away with wearing cheap stuff and making it last....I am not that lucky.

My thoughts on the topic: ALL waders eventually end up leaking within a few years if you actually use them. I have recently owned a couple pairs of cabelas waders. The first pair were their cheapest available and didn't even last a full season. The next pair were the gold medals and lasted me 3 dry seasons before the seams exploded. I currently wear Hodgeman Guidelite series waders; I picked them up on sale for about $160. I am still rocking them to this day and I have only a few operater error pin holes in them.

I have a number of friends who wear nothing but Simms. They all fish less than me and take better care of their waders. All of them were leaky within 2 seasons. Yet out of all the leaky Simms wearers, they are still convinced that they are the greatest waders ever? Why pay 400+ for something that has the same durability as something in the 150-200 range? I am not advocating the very cheapest of waders (less than $100) because most of them do have durability issues, but the middle of the pack waders last just as long as any Simms out there from my experience.

For the record, I probably spend 70+ days a year in my waders and log loads of miles on them.

newbie opinion, but i am another vote for the Bean waders. with a retail store in Pittsburgh, if they ever leak/rip/ blowout/ or just suck, you take them in and get a new pair. even if your not in the burgh, it's an easy drive and you get fresh waders that day. None of the send them in bs when you need them. That counts for alot imo.

but then, if you are getting your pro rate simms at half the cost of the beans, then that makes the decision alot easier.

Oddly, the last time i was on here the same thread was going on re: wading jackets. all the same players, same thoughts.
