just wandering what temperature everyone feels is cold enough to let a deer lay overnight?

S-10 -> RE: temps (10/28/2009 9:12:29 PM)

Anything below 55f should not be a problem. They will be bloated and stink some when you open them up but the meat should be fine. Much above that and you will probably lose some or all the meat depending on how long it was dead and how it was laying when it died.

a good frost helps but I am thinking 40's

IMO the only time i'd bother with a deer that laid over night would be if the temps were mid 40s or lower... i've seen way too many things grow in my microbiology classes

I agree with S-10.  55 is fine.   We let a buck lay overnight a few years ago my buddy shot thru the guts.. about 55 that night.  He didn't get it back to the truck until about 10:30 the next morning.. then took 2-3 hours to get home and take pics I believe.   Part of the hind quarters had to be pitched.

if above 45 i would search, below that you should be fine
