A question for the Yough river experts.  Does anyone know of a launch on the Yough that a 17' V boat could launch at?  Does this even exist...

Mine isn't a "Deep V", but a bit more of a V than a round bottom, I think...  Mabe shallow V?  I've hit the motor at about 1.5 feet deep.  I know from floating and wading the Yough, there are a few really nice long deep pools, but not sure of launch access to any.  I've seen similar setups launched at the Yough Outfitters in West Newton.  Also have seen some at Cedar Creek.  Anyone have any experience with similar set ups launched from either of these or similar?

I'd like to eventually trade my boat in for something like a 17' Basstracker, but the deeper gunnels are nice for taking the little ones out.

I have launched my 17' bass boat at Boston and headed upstream towards Sutersville a good ways.

You will have no problem launching at 10th ward (mouth or the Yough in Mckeesport) or Boston.

I take it that Boston is still affected by the Mon dam (Braddock)?

Does that area get the summer smallmouth action like the Sutersville-Connellsville section?

PT,

There are 3 launches which will only give you limited access on the Yough, when the river is low, can't go more than maybe 3/4 mile at these locations, but the fishing is good in these areas.

1) Whitsett
2) Buena Vista
3) Smithton Hole

71-

That's what I suspected about the 3/4 mile stretches.  Thank you all for the responses.  I'll be moving a bit closer to the Yough in the next few months (Jefferson - I'm refusing to add Hills at the end...), and plan on hitting the Yough much more than I have.

PT

You can also join the Yough Sports People Assoc. and get a key for the launch in Coulter that puts you in some deep water.  There is a set of rapids about 3/4 mi. upstream of that that you should be able to get through when the water is normal or high but then it gets shallow above that.  I only punched through those rapids once in my heavy 14' deep V and explored a little but only a couple hundred yards up from that, I was bumping bottom with my 15 hp.  There may be a channel that I just don't know about and missed.  From Coulter, you can go all the way down to the Mon. and back up as long as you are careful in a couple of spots.  You may have to tilt up the motor and watch for boulders/tires/washing machines in a couple areas and it gets a little thin out in front of the restaurant about a mile up from the Boston launch.

I would not try launching your boat at Whitsett but the guys gave you some good options.  If you can get it launched at Cedar Creek there is some water for you to fish there.  They did some work at the ramp there this year and I think it's worse now.
