I recently bought a used T/C Encore rifle, 7mm-08, synthetic camo w. blued Bargara barrel, and with a Burris Fullfield II scope. Been looking for a good deal on one for sometime and found this one on Gunbroker for $600. It arrived and was in awesome shape as described. Quickly sighted in the rifle and was I'm really happy with it.

Sitting on one of my shelves was a TruGlo red dot sight that I bought several years ago for my Benelli. I intended on setting it up for turkeys but was not happy with the B-Square mount so I scrapped the idea. I got a wild hair and decided to buy a 24" turkey barrel for my Encore and once I received it I set it up with the TruGlo.

I sighted the gun yesterday........you should see my shoulder! Not many guns make me hurt but shooting 3" Winchester HV turkey loads through this gun is almost unbearable. I touched off  3 or 4 rounds and just couldn't take it anymore. I resorted to using lighter 2 3/4" 6 shot for sighting purposes, then I shot a few more of the Winchesters just to make sure they hit the same as the lighter loads and that the gun patterns well with them. I have settled on size 6 in the 3" Winchesters but holy crap, what a chore.

I went online and read some reviews, many Encore shooters have replaced the factory recoil pad with a Limbsaver recoil pad. I have ordered one just to try and tame the recoil some. My shoulder is kinda thanking me already.

Can't wait to try it out in the upcoming fall season.

Anyone else ready? I love the Fall season almost as much as Spring, don't get me wrong, I love gobbling birds, but I find it as fun to have a bird wistling it's head off while running in looking to regroup!

Status: offline 		No thanks! I also shot a 10 ga and a 12 ga 3 1/2 once.....Never again!

I swear, this Encore rocks you just as much. I have black, blue and purple bruises on my right shoulder to prove it, LOL.

I'm REALLY hoping the Limbsaver pad does what I've read, I really like this gun.

Status: offline 		We went out shooting with some guys and girls after work one day. This one chick is like 5' 3" and about 110lbs... I threw in 2-2 3/4" shells and then a 3 1/2" at the end... she wasn't ready and it knocked her back a couple steps... she was ****ed!!! lol

Maybe a good thing the gun didn't end up on the ground. I've seen novice shooters drop a gun after the recoil.....

Wish I could dig up that youtube video of the guys shooting some magnum rifle at an indoor sight. It's hilarious to see grown men thrown backwards around a small room.......

Status: offline 		You wuss! Just kidding I know how you feel.  Have you ever shot a Mosin Nagant or a mauser 8mm with just a plate at the end.  I really gained alot of respect for the soldiers that ripped off thousands of rounds out of those guns.

Status: offline 		Shot a hen in the fall one time with my single shot 10ga down on my bicep cause I was leaning out around a tree........There was a small strip up the back of my arm that was a greenish color, everything else around to the front of the bicep was purplish black. Traded her in on a much heavier 10 ga side by side. Much less recoil and it lays em down....

YEP... that's all I use. Paired wirth Federal 3 1/2" mags with #5 shot... never missed and never had a bird get up after takin one to the head. Love that gun.

had a buddy with a .410 shotgun with an all wood stock.. no recoil pad.. that little thing kicked like a mule to.

Although my Remington Mowhawk 600 in 308 is a bootin little mule that breaths fire..

Installed the Limbsaver recoil pad, made a night and day difference. Don't get me wrong, it still kicks, but it is far more tolerable than the factory pad. Bring on the feathers!

May I also add, kudos to Midway USA. I ordered the pad on Sunday night and it was in my mailbox Wednesday.

LOL, just finished watching that and other recoil videos, OUCH. I never realized how many vids are on youtube of people injuring themselves from gun recoil

haha yeah, it was my father's old goose gun from way back... shoot a couple out of it then move to the new browning gold 3 1/2" and it feels like you're going from a 12 gauge to a 28 gauge. unreal how much force gets absorbed between the gas shocks and recoil pad on newer guns.

as for that .557 rifle... i'd be doing all my shooting from a lead sled. thats a bit too much kick to not notice while you're focusing on the animal you're hunting haha

I remember once back in the 70's when I was a kid watching my Grandfather sight in his 06.
He was testing some reloads a buddy had made for him..Well one of the old duffers must have put a double charge in one of the shells.
Luckily the gun didn't come apart but it flopped Grandpa right over backwards in his wooden folding chair.
Never saw Grandpa quite so suprised as he was gathering himself up of the ground and a mumbling something about not letting "PUT" touch the reloading equipment again...

Sure do miss those old fellas...

Don't take this as me saying mags as inferior to other loads etc, just looking for differng views/thoughts. With the punishment that goes with shooting the 3.5 inch 12 ga guns/loads OR a 10 guage, why do you guys still use them? Is it just a confidence thing?

I guess I'm away from the norm. I shoot the plain 3 inch Turkey loads loads with 6 shot. I have had others tell me that they would never go that small and use 4's or 5's. My pattern is awesome with the 6's and I've killed gobblers out to 47 yds although I prefer NOT to shoot more than 35 yds and that kill I was fooled by the birds distance. I guess I'm confident enough in my ability to get 'em in close and have never seen the need to have a gun that blows 'em over beyond 40 yds.

So, with all the advancements is chokes and loads, why go that big?

Status: offline 		I have 3 turkey guns a Moss. 500, a Winchester 1300 and a H&R 10ga. with a 28inch barrel and a 24inch barrel(the 10 ga with 24 inch barrel and buttstock just over 30in. for total gun lenght). im not recoil shy by no means but the 10 ga. with 2 ft. barrel is B*TCH to hold onto. Shot alot of birds with the "10" to many to count but I only shot 1 with the short barrel.

The worst turkey gun I shot was a N.E.F. single shot 12ga 3 1/2 WITHA PLASTIC STOCK AND A 22INCH BARREL. It was kickin so hard it was starting to mushromm the stock with the reciever near the grip.

Status: offline 		Shorter the barrel and lighter the gun=bigger the recoil-kick. I have a Browning 10 gauge 3 1/2 mag with 34 inch barrel and knocks geese from quite a ways out. You don*t really notice recoil when shooting at birds.

Status: offline 		I have an 835 also never shot 3 1/2 though. I might this spring. Ive shot more gobblers with a 20 guage than a 12 the farthest one at 35 yards.

Status: offline 		Remington 870 express 20ga. 3" sabots... I'll never shoot them again... that gun is TOO light for the heavy loads. I'd rather shoot 20 rnds out of my 30-06 than 1 slug with that gun again. I actually wanted to sell the thing that day after trying to sight it in. it's slowly becoming my new turkey gun though because it patterns pretty much everything well.
