Status: offline 		has anyone ever tried using scents on egg patterns for steel'd. i know a guy that used to do this trout fishing with success.

Status: offline 		My thoughts: It wont replace a good drift and an appropriate fly, but if you've got those two, it might entice one that's deciding whether or not to bite. Also, it might persuade a fish to hold a fly a little longer before spitting it out, making strikes easier to detect.

Exactly. I dont do it because its stinky, slimy, and generally a pain in the butt. I dont mind the first two (i DO try to catch fish), but one of the nice parts about fly fishing is that you dont have to deal with that.

If I WERE going to scent my flies though, it'd probably be just sucker spawn and glo bugs, and I'd just get a tube of single eggs, and remove the eggs but leave the juice, and throw a dozen flies in and leave them there all season.

What to do with the eggs?

Chum the hell outta those steelbows.

Status: offline 		For what its worth, I tried it last Saturday. It was the only time I had any action. 3 quick hookups and one broken hook. About the same time my son's waders developed a leak and we were done for the day. I want to revisit "dipping" my eggs on my next trip. I have no problems with my drift, just trying to up my count to the required 35 a day so I dont suck at fishing.

Status: online 		what are you scenting them with??   i have tied flies the nite befor i fish use head cement  on top my whip finish and had no prob geting hook ups..  and that crap stinks.    imo size and  and color have the bigges thing to do with it.  as for the  35 hook ups that alot of right place right time and geting lucky..

Somedays the fish could couldn't care less about the scent, other days it might be different...Also, mike, if your actually catching 35 a day on trips, id love to know what the hell ur using.

Status: offline 		I carry a little bottle of power bait "trout Formula" to put on my sucker spawn, if only to cover the scent of Copenhagen. I don't know if scent helps but It certainly can't hurt anything.

Status: offline 		I went to high school with a kid, he would melt a jar of power bait in the microwave, cut little bits of kitchen spounge into egg size patterns and dip the spounge into the melted powerbait. He always said he did good but I never fished with him to see for myself.
