I dont see the problem with asking how far they are up. A respectful answer would be, "well I stopped at so and so, threw out a line and didnt see any fish blah blah blah"...whatever. Not "why dont you do some research, look around...check the weather...do you not see the streams are low...blah blah blah." Some people are just too testy. If you are tired of people asking the question, dont respond. You dont have to have an power trip. Like somebody said before, its easy to be hard behind a computer screen. OH, and ALOT of people dont have the time to sit infront of the screen and search and search and search some more through all of the BS that gets put into one thread, just like some comments already on this one. Whats the point. Take your inside jokes somewhere else. And really, I'm not trying to be rude. Some people do not have the time though. Going up to the Tribs are a very exciting thing, especially for somebody that may only be able to make the trip once or twice a year.

You've got to be kidding me... so now not only are you to lazy to find the fish on your own... you're now to lazy to even get online and search for the information.

With all the stream map(that include all public access points) water guages, web cams, reports pages, bait shops you can call... you still can't make a decision on your own then just stay home and save the gas money.

BTW I live 300+ miles from Erie and I can hit every trib in a day if I want to...why can't you.

Mook and any other lurker...

Don't sit in the background and then **** about the state of the forums when you hardly contribute at all. Join in and make a difference instead of sitting there wait to be fed. If you been on here for that long and have been to Erie even a couple times you know enought to help someone else out. Reminds me of the people who **** and moan all day about the economy and the president but don't vote.

asking questions is not necessarily lazy.

it's the purpose of a forum and the MAIN reason to have a forum at all.

I'm sure everybody realizes that there is a public library, google, internat and library of congress. So to mute or belittle honest questions is just a cheap end-around. BUT - people do need to learn on their own, read and research - it helps you gain experience.

believe me, i've had an inbox full of "where are they today?" from loads of people.. many people are the same ones over and over. and yes, it gets annoying.

but, there is a polite and helpful way out of this predicament depending on how you 'respond'

flaming, tar and feathering and ridiculing usually produces poor results on one side or the other I have found..

remember, information is free and should be

but, experience will cost ya!

Hahaha, this is the exact reason why I dont post. It becomes personal and I have to take time out of my day to defend myself. First of all, you have no clue who I am or what I do in a day. So to call me lazy is completely uncalled for. The reason I dont contribute is because I dont have any information worthy enough to contribute. How can I contribute when I am still learning about steelhead fishing and can only make the trip up a few times a year. I guess I could give false information if you want. Seriously though, dont call me lazy. I personally think that is one of the worst things you can call somebody. I never said I wanted to know EXACTLY where the fish are or that somebody should tell somebody else EXACTLY where the fish are. I walk a long way to get away from the crowd. This started out a thread about people hijacking threads and turning them into a joke. Now its you are lazy and cant walk, you need to know exactly where they are and whatever. Oh well, it just proves a point I guess

If you dont have time to do a google search and read the results, how do you have time to post a question, wait for answers, and read the answers? Let alone to go fishing...

From one lurker to the next, I agree that lurking isn't all that bad when you don't have alot to add to the conversation.

but also from one guy whom has joked a little on a thread.  sometimes people ask things in ways that seem pretty desperate and/or cheap.  I'm not always sure what people expect when they post the famous "how far up are steelhead"... but at the face of it, its a pretty silly question.

We might be handicapped in not knowing exactly WHAT thread you (or someone you empathized with) asked.  but it doesn't seem IMO like there's been very much rude responses.

I mean, man, if you ask a friend something thats a little too pushy; don't they sometimes fire off a smart-alleky response?  They probably aren't all that upset about it, either, there's just trying (awkwardly or nicely-depending on how you look at it) to tell you that they aren't willing to answer you or they think the question is a little much.

on here, we're anonymous and not really exactly best friends.  Its amazing people say so much (too me), and still a little amazing that people aren't flamed more.

IF you didn't EXACTLY ask where the fish are; don't you admit that THEY ARE guys that are... are more appropriately... that Guys are SEEMING to ask about it.

Keep writing; I've been on this forum a bit, and I don't feel like calling out the major posters- but you do.  and I still don't understand why...

so far the biggest pet peeve on this forum has been near porn photos. (which is awkward at work).

This is the comment I was addressing... if you choose to take it personally that's your problem. Surely you have something positive to contribute even if you are still new the steelheading. Everyone brings something different to the table. And I can think of a hell of a lot worse things to call someone than lazy.

Also hardly anyone here is "hiding behind a computer screen" alot of us have met and have and do fish together. If you'd calm down make a conscious effort to mabye get to know some of these people you'd be fortunate enough to be ''IN" on the inside jokes. And also know some of these people behind the screen names are some of the nicest and most giving people you will ever meet.

No... its fun!
Perhaps, its one of those "INSIDE JOKES" that bugging some people so much.  Don't quite see the big deal with "inside jokes"?? myself.

Heck had a friend, that nearly everything he said was an "inside" joke. most confusing guy ever.  but very entertaining.

You guys (dafunk, cold, Rookie and Pxatim and probably others) are all doing a great job saying it--on this topic.
Pxatim mentioned fishing with each other... How do you do that? exactly, is it a pm to pm kind of deal?  did you know each other before the board? or have you meet up at some of the events.  I know of the "one fly" but I haven't seem much for bait slingers...

jolie, you can pm guys to see if they'd like to fish with you, but most of the people here that I've fished with I've either met at the one fly then met up with later on to fish, or had alot of contact with them about fishing tactics, tying, or something else, then decided to go do some fishing.

While the one fly is primarily focused on fly fishing (obviously), a bait fisher could certainly attend the get-together and have a lot of fun without ever competing (though jack or someone will almost certainly con you into throwing a few test-loops on a spare rig ). Also, there are the Shenango and Oil Creek outings, as well as a SWPA gathering this weekend at laurel hill.

I told somebody once how far up the fish were.  So he went there two days later.  There were no fish there then.  He sent me an email and told me I was a liar.   I was upstream from that spot that day he came and the fish had moved upstream more.  Last time I ever tried to answer that question.  More importantly, folks should attempt to learn how fish migrate each system and how water levels, color, temp, gravel, etcccc... affect fish migration...it's not to hard to figure how when thousands of fish are entering smaller, clear, short waters....   Many fail to grasp that concept.  Color of fly don't mean a thing compared to fish migration !  Ever hear the saying.. where you fish is more important than what you fish with ?  Holds true even witha lot of fish around.

I don't post much anymore because there's nothing to talk about.   It's all been said multiple times since the boards inception.  Some of you are just beginning and expect help from those in the know but it's all been said... read the history.

I have to thanks for all of you that agree, and for all of you that don't, it's okay. Anyway, I meet most of everyone from the one fly. I and my boyfriend have been fishing with the couple of guys since then. This board does have a lot of great people that are willing to help, but just ask the questions in a different manner, instead of bluntely. Or defintely, defintely PM someone.

I hate to get back on topic, but the people that join and the first post they make is how far up are the steelies are the ones that seem to aggravate me. Im not from around there so i understand why people that live 2 hours or more away want to know where the steelies are, but if your gonna ask it on this board ask if they have gotten between to areas that you know of. You dont need the exact location, do a little walking, god made us all with legs, what do you think they were supposed to be used for? sitting?? And the research doesnt take more than 10 minutes tops, to look up all these things. I can open to tabs and while one is loading i can be searching for another thing i need to know.  I dont know if its just this time of year or what but the forums are getting a little hectic with all these pointless topics that are repeating the same thing. I looked it up and in the last month there was 5 topics about how  far up the steelhead are. READ one of those topics and stop clustering the forums up.
