Let the goonies hack away at the kings. Fish for chrome in the dark water below them.

335 will probably consolidate and congregate the trout that are in the river instead of spreading them out like they have been.  i wouldn't cancel your trip.  it's probably going to be a great steelhead weekend.  i'll bet on it. good luck.  i'll be there for sure...

Fished on Sunday, there is not enough salmon around to keep the goonies interested. They are mostly confined to Trestle on north anyway. Seen alot head scratching and ****ing, then rear bumpers heading home early. Salmon season is done.

Well, wait till the rain moves in Thurs- Sat. Things could change real quick, just like the weather in Pulaski.

my salmon season usually ends in mid september.  i like to catch kings in august and early september.  after that all the goons can fight those black ugly looking things.  thank god it's steelhead season.  this is the time i wait for.  let's all raise our glasses to another steelhead season... and i think this one is going to be the better out of three (last year and the year were phenomenal, but i have feeling this one is gonna be better).

P.S.  to anyone who is targeting salmon this weekend;  it's a little late.  sometimes there is a late push of kings that even comes in november, along with some cohoes.  but it's nothing worth targeting.  if you want good salmon action, you should pay atention to the river from mid august till end of september/beginning october.  now is when you should be thinking steelhead.  now is when the biggest steelies start to run the river.  with in the next month you will be hearing about high teens and some twenty's.  and hopefully one will be on the end of my line.  fish on to all...

If you want a chance at some fresh salmon Oswego usually gets a later run than the SR.I hate the place because of the muntants that frequent the place but it's a option.

Out of the 8 steel I've hooked over the years that I'm certain were 20+(2 are on the wall)----7 were in Oct(the other was in May). There is usually an uptick in size around the end of Jan-Feb though.

Since you're sitting in front of your puter I take it you canceled your plans to fish.

Just came back last night after 3 days of fishing the SR. Salmon in main river at Pineville are pretty much crap but did get into a couple nice steelies (one was kind enough to bust my reel beyond repair). There are still fresh salmon if you know where to go. We took limit the last day we fished of clean, fresh, unblemished kings for my buddy to smoke.

Yeah Wisdom I hope they were clean, most of the kings I saw on stringers I couldn't believe someone would eat them even smoked.    Did see one that was gold sided no white or hook tears. Also saw alot of eggs along the bottom (steely food).

Yeah, we saw guys dragging some that were pretty beat up. This one guy was dragging one that made Edgar Winter look tan...lol  I can't imagine eating one of those; I don't even like to touch them when they get like that.

yes tuna, late jan early feb thaw always brings in some big bucks.  i always go in early feb.  even though it was -19 last year when i went. there was no type of thaw going on that weekend.  but i have had some excellent days in early feb in DSR when the ice was still all the way up to the flats below the wall pool and 8 foot snow banks on the river banks.  you've gotta love it to do it though.

I didn't land it---but it was either a real late runner---or an early skam(beat me on the 3rd jump).

yeah metal, i pontooned the river in mid may this past year and i saw a bunch of big bucks and a fair amount of spawning pairs; managed to catch 2.  all of the dropbacks were down river.  these fish were obviously late spawners.  i wasn't so interested in them though. i was in search of some silver sided drop backs.  i nailed one drop back in april on a rapala.  the fish was prety beat up, but was turning silver.  i watched his flash come out from an undercut bank about four foot from my lure.  Hey metal, have you gotten a summer run yet.  i've caught them in september but i don't like to count that.  i'd like to catch one in june or july preferably.  it's so hard to find one of those picture perfect situations when you live 4 and a half hours away.  i plan on getting one this year though.

This was a fresh hen down low the 3rd week in May prob 3-4yrs ago.I've done a few summer runs-----I'd say the Memorial release is the best time(but I always fish mid river down).

I've landed a few summer run in July and August when I've been targeting Atlantic's.

One summer I saw and fished to a huge skam, which finally took, but then broke me off. I'd estimate 18-22 lbs.

Tight lines,

that's awesome OS.  i've targeted them a few times.  i know they're there, timing has got to be just right though, and i have a place that i work on a lot in the summer.  i plan on hitting a few solid mornings this summer though.  i know some spots where they lay after they come in where there are some spring feeds.  i've heard the tailout poolof the staircase where the old boat ramp used to be can be a productive spot for them as well.  fish on...

We got up there Fri morn, fished below the staircase and there was plaenty of chrome more than I've seen in a while! Went up river to the Bovines in the afternoon and more chrome, a few of those elusive palimino salmon!  LOL  but the chrome once again out numbered the  mud sharks.  All in all it was a great weekend, weather held up pretty good landed 5 steelies and hooked about 20!   I had one hook up where this monster almost ripped the rod from my hand, literally straightned the hook out!  thats the one that got away!    Till next time!
