Status: offline 		Very good point---If you want to kill them March thru June then mineral licks is the way to go. From August on it's a poor place to watch when compared to apples, crop fields, or acorns. That's why I could never understand why the PGC gets so touchy about it. A pile of corn I could see their point, but not a mineral lick.

Once again...how do you know how much or how little to take?? 6"...1'..... 5'??????  There is no way of knowing....I put my Trophy Rocks out in June and take them out in August...?????  Just doing what the law states and removing them 30 days prior to season...Difference is, I put them on a tree stump...So do I have to remove the stump now too???   Too many grey area's IMO.....

Status: offline 		I know I will get hammered for this because it sounds like I do not believe the poster...  ???

but to my knowledge and the WCOs I have come in contact with and talked to about the subject .. NONE have fined a person for residue (salt) in the soil .. on and in stumps.. that's different.. you can see the deer will eat those stumps for months getting the salt that has soaked in..
If you do not want to get fined...  never put salt on a stump and then hunt over it is my suggestion...

As I said ... there may be more to this guy's story that maybe he does not even know about...

the fact is --- he said that the WCO said it was an "active bait sight" and they had been watching it... that tells me alot !!!

that acorn stuff (I'm told it is just ground-up acorns) can be dumped and the deer will eat in an evening if it's not too much... and I doubt it would leave much residue...


If minerals were put on the ground and you can see deer are still coming there. digging and eating the earth .. do not hunt there.. it is an active bait area... deer are still coming to it...



I do not know all there is to know on this case..  ...  just voicing my opinion of it.

Status: offline 		Speaking of baiting.  Found a site last night.    There are like 6 or 7 bucks there and a bunch of doe.    So much for hunting that spot.   I'll have to call the warden.  They'll post it 150 yards around.   I know who is doin' it too.   PUNK.

Status: offline 		have one in our area too.  the kid (about 16)who is already on license suspension shot at least 15 deer last year, and they couldnt' catch him.  traps out of season, collected at least 3 gobblers this spring.  And nothing still.....frustrating because he is ruining good hunting area.

If not legal the law should be written clearer... and as for the fine of $300... here are a few other states..

Minnesota.. $385 and loss of the weapon

Michigan..the fine is $500

Vermont... check out this one ,,,, $500 and up to 60 days IN JAIL !!!!

Two wrongs don't make a right! Fines seem excessive to me! Seem like many get less time/fines for robbery, burglary, assualt, etc.
