I think I mentioned it before but one of the niciest farms for small game and deer, and only a mile or so away, was posted NO HUNTING about 7 years ago for one simple reason... someone shot the ladies dog...  and she has NOT forgiven "hunters in general" since.. still no one hunts there....

We had a pack of wild dogs in the area years ago.. back in the beaver dams at Canoe Creek.   They can run forever.. deer cannot.   I believe area hunters took care them.    They are nasty lookin' and have a dangerous demeanor.  Wild dogs although not common are probably the greatest threat to us, besides ourselves.  It's one thing to see a scruffy dog running around a strip of woods in a urban area but one in the middle of no where is another story.  I wouldn't hesitate to shoot one.   I came across a shetland sheepdog about 2 months ago.  It was a bit scruffy and didn't look like it had been there for too long.   Because of where it was, I suspect someone dropped it off.   It popped out of a ditch when I drove by.  I stopped and tried to get it to come to me with no avail..  it was deathly scared.  It was sorta sad.. I've been around sheltie's my whole life and remember thinking this dog doesn't stand a chance out here.   I drove down the road a bit, and turned around.  I was gonna take it home to my parents since they only have one now but I couldn't find it.  There was another vehicle in the area, so maybe it got away from them and they ended up finding it.

OK, sorry to prolong the dog topic, but I feel the need to add my $0.02.

First off I love dogs and would never shoot someone's pet.  There's a distinction that many of you have made with respect to feral and loose.  I agree there's a big difference.  I hope when my time comes I can make the right decision.  As far as the law goes, here we have another perfect example of how someone sitting behind a bench can't cover all scenarios so they have to side conservatively.  If you have feral dog problems, it would be best to take of it as discreetly as possible.

For negligent neighbors who are repeat offenders of loose dogs running deer (I know a few).  That is up to your particular situation.  If you are vocal about it and then decide to take the law into your own hands, then be prepared for the consequences.

Pork and deadbolt and whoever else. I know the difference between a domestic dog(pet) and a wild dog. I dont just go out shooting dogs(pets). Im not hunting in an urban area- down in the big hills actually. Like others have said... have you ever hunted on land or an area where there are wild dogs or big yote problem? apparently not... u go and ask the farmer or landowner what their thoughts are and about 99% of the time your going to get a 2 word answer- kill them. If you question them or ask why, thats a good way to lose permission to hunt there. You two ever hunt yotes at night? can u tell the difference between a wild dog or yote 100-150 yards away in the pitch black? U talk to any yote hunter and its gonna get shot if they see a set of eyes. im not gonna wait... most pets have a collar, tags, bells, etc on them... and if you got a dog out at night comming into predator calls, or out chase'n deer in a pack... somethings wrong in that picture and your preaching of some rule book is just gonna make you think u got a big head cause i know what i'd do along with a few others on here... get out and see what they can do firsthand before you go preachn to others... cause truthfully your not gonna change my mind...

Was out the past two evenings. Monday evening see three does @ 420pm then a couple non-shooter bucks. Right after 600 the huge heard of deer filed into the corn fields. Tuesday evening Seen about the same thing as Monday and  the MONSTER I missed the first day but to far out and he is actually a BIG  8 point!!!! I had the time to look at with the field glasses. But the main beams have to be at 23-25 inches long and the G2-3'S are over ten inches. spread looked to 20-22 inches. Now need some luck to have him come in one more time LOL

6pt and a 5pt Came into my main buck spot tonite, was nice to finally see some deer, since I've been hunting this past week only seeing a doe. They came to within 10 yards of my stand, and started grazing, right there. Never even gave me a look.

30 mins go by and I hear something crashing behind me. I can't move to turn around, too scared I'd spook the Buck's who have kept me company. I slowly peer out of the corner of my eye, its a typical 10, with a 20 inch spread. Beautiful Buck. Something spooked him, wasn't my scent, or him seeing me, guess it was his 6th sense, he turned and trotted away.

was good to see deer though. I'll get back on him monday.

Saturday evening...
16 doe, 3- 1.5yo bucks.

A first for me...
Had 2 doe feeding below me 10 yards.
All of the sudden, they became nervous, ears forward, stomping and snorting while looking into the woods to my right.  Tails go up, they turn around and take off into the woods, snorting the whole way.
1 minute later, a black 'yote pops into the field 30 yards away so I grab my bow.  He starts quartering towards me.  He gets to the path I took in and puts his nose down.  Bye, bye.  Takes off running.
I sprayed the hell out of my boots before walking in, like I always do.  Quite a few does crossed that very same path, several times while feeding, during the evening and they never flinched.  Kinda left me scratchin' my head.
Saw him/her? at dark again, 100 yards out.  Hope he sticks around and gives me one chance, just one...

2-blade Rage.(doe from Sat. morn.)

I was out last Thursday evening - I had a wedding over the weekend so couldn't hunt. Had 5 bucks come into the field behind me but wind wasn't right and once they got into the line of the wind, they were outta there. Two shooters for sure - one could have been a 10, other looked like an 8 and couldn't get the bino's on the other three but they were smaller. All cruising together still...

Didn't see anything on tuesday morning, but I hadda cut the hunting short cause my wife was giving me grief. I was up Erie fishing Thursday night until Sunday night, then Tuesday morning back out hunting. The wind wasn't right for that stand anyway. Also found out some jerk stole the ratchet strap that held my ladder to the tree.

Ugh, thank god my good stand is on exclusively private land. 2 years ago we came to find the cables for our climbers were stolen, now, we use a bolt in place of the pin, and chain the stand to the tree when we get down.

I'll be going out tonite, gonna be cold, so hopefully, the deers will be moving.

Good luck guys
