I went in the woods, at about 545, was in my stand at 6.
Beautiful morning, bird chirping, squirrels annoying. Little drizzle from the wind, knocking last night's rain to the ground. I had a good feeling.

7 Am, suns beginning to peek out. 60 yards, a rare elusive MORON walks by. Actually he was sneaking, until he saw me, then he walked away.

What the hell is wrong with some people? Walking into the woods at 7 am, on opening day. Unbelievable!

Now before everyone flames me, the woods I was hunting are VERY SMALL. Kinda like a big funnel. I snuck in extremely quietly, but if ya don't do that, deer will know and vacate the area. Nothing like a moron ruining opening day, months of scouting, not to mention me loosing precious sleeping time.

/End rant.

I did see a doe. As I took my gear off.

Hopefully, tonight will be better.

What about yinz guys?

got to stand at 530. got up in it, just to watch some clown walk in circles for the next 40min with a green flashlight apparently looking for his stand... In the big big woods and wudnt think anyone be around but i was fooled.... i thought he was trying to communicate with the aliens with the way he was flashn it around the woods....where he was parked, he sure did come in a assonine way... ended up haven 2 flatheads walk by and numerous tree rats around... wind was pickn up so got down at 10.

try again this afternoon if wind isnt howln

I saw my bachelor herd, but they stayed out too far and followed a grapevine tangle down into a drainage. Get back on them this evening and hope they come out into the oaks.

in stand at 600beautiful morning.  quiet, calm everything i could have asked for until 7 o clock came.  it raind all last night so the ground was quiet.   i hear a twig snap.  i turn around to find a father and son, IN FULL BLAZE ORANGE!!, walking directly towards my stand.  i am in a think area and those 2 morons are sneaking through the thick stuff just like an elephant does, with arrows nocked.  they walk directly under my stand meaning im surprised their jacket didnt snag on my step.  i figured they would just walk on through so i didnt say anything. figured it wasnt worth making any more extra noise if they were to leave.  they pass me by  go down the hill bout 40 yards and settle in on a long but first they had to clear an area around them  with thier lil saws.   they sit down   just to far to say something to them.  then the dad proceeds to smoke a pack,  i guess it was to check the wind direction.  then after about 25 min the younger male id say about 15 or so makes a half circle around me and sits down 30 yards up hill from me.  kid was 30 yards uphill and dad was 40 yards below me then i guess they needed to have a father son conversation for 30 min with walkie talkies.   ya know the ones that make a loud beep after everyword you say.  after that the father gets up and walk down the ridge and out of sight i figure the boy would soon follow and i can the rest of a peaceful day and maybe they will kick something up.  no the boy then i guess needs to check the wind himself and lights one up.   starts playin with his bow  ya know drawing back at everything in the woods  then to my surprise a squirrel starts his way up my tree.   im like omg  ima die here with this kid the bow sees the squirrel and draws back on it.   thats when the kid sees me   walks over and appolgize that he was there i figured the guy that gave me permission to hunt also gave them permission and its not a very large tract of land so i just said o well  went back to the landowners house and told him the story  told me  he hadnt givin permission to anyone else.   well i wish i would have known that when i initialy saw them.      2 make an even longer story short.  the last 2 months ive spent scouting and hanging a stand and knowning the deer here is shot  i pulled my stand told the landowner thank you for letting me hunt but that he probaly wont see me again.   ill just stay behind my house from now on

Got to the area about 5AM and proceeded to blunder around the woods looking for my ladder stand for a half hour. Just when I was starting to think I would have to sit on the ground until it got light, I found it. Climbed up , belted in, got situated. Around 7:15, a doe crossed by, but she was way out at the edge of what I could see. Nothing after that except squirrels and chipmunks. I got down around 9:30 and put up reflective tacks all the way back to the gas line that I walked in on. Funny thing was, my stand wasn't that far in, so I didn't think I needed to mark the trail. Learned my lesson there. I cant go out tonight. Good luck to those who can.

I don't know about the weather, so much as the moon phase (could be a combination of both). That said, I can't complain. I saw a hammer tonight. I just couldn't get him to commit past 60 yards. Oh well, long season and lots of time.

Got in the stand at 6:15 had a deer walk under me at 6:30 couldnt tell what it was tho. Went out tonight and heard something comin down the hill at me so I got ready. Down the hill comes a doe tongue hanging out of her mouth panting like crazy! She looks over her shoulder and then keeps on running. Then I hear something else coming so I get ready thinking ooooo baby here comes a big un! And down the hill comes a coyote... No a dog... No 2 dogs... No 3 dogs!!! They come up to the bottom of my tree and start barking at me! So by this time Im thinking I might have to shoot one of these d*mn things in order to get home tonight then they just take off after the deer again all 3 dogs had collars or they would be dead right now. And everyone BE CAREFUL OUT THERE AND THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE DOING! A good friend of mines dad was climbing into his stand this morning he put 1 foot on his platform and grabbed a branch to pull himself up but it was dead and broke. He fell almost 20 ft broke 8 ribs his shoulder and bruised his lungs badly! Luckily my good friend, his son, was there to call 911. So just a heads up. Good luck everyone and play it safe!!!

Started climbing my tree at 530am  seen 2 scrubs walk right under my stand at 815 Morning was slow. Went to the farm i hunt at 130pm to help my friends and his dad set up this blind. Headed down to my stand at 200. Seen a deer ten minutes after i got up the tree. Then at 300 seen a big doe thought well maybe I'll shoot 2 fawns fallowed her WAIT I see horns hmmmm fair to small and there is are 2 small 8 points NO WAIT there are 3 bucks WOW Nelly Its a monster 10 point with the g two and threes are at least ten inches long here he comes right up passed me at 20 yards get the perfect shoot and let it fly NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO  right over his back ****!!!!!!!!! He did not know where the sound came from turned straight away from me never even ran just walked slow away and the two small bucks ran for cover with the does. They had no clue were I was at which was cool. Sitting there in disbelieve look down and another buck nice 8 point with a very white rack and was thick. I didn't have a arrow ready tried to get a arrow out of the quiver but he just started walking the same trail as the the 10 point and never had a shot. And this all happened by 315pm. At 330 went to make sure I had to climb down and check the arrow and was as dry as a bone Well better a clean miss ya know!!! got back on stand nothing till 630 threw dark  seen maybe ten does and a scrub 5 point. That was a very Exciting hunt without taking a deer. Buddies dad seen a pile of doe with no shot and a 4 point at ten yards for 15 minutes or so. Really wish he could have got a shot at a deer. He only has use of one arm. So of coarse he uses a crossbow. And it is  hard to get him close enough to the action without him spooking the deer. trying to move the crossbow and his rest for the bow is hard for him without being noticed even in a blind.

Saw a few does, 2 foxes, and 2 racoons in the morning. Saw 2 more does after I climbed down at 10am, when I took 2 steps from the tree.

Went out again in the evening. Saw nothing.

Didn't see anything on my morning stand.  After got down and checked the apple trees nearby I figured out why, although I was pretty sure they were empty anyway.  Didn't even see any tracks in the natural funnel.  I guess traffic is very dependent on the apples.  I'll be back to this stand at the end of the month when they are in full chase mode.

While checking a camera spotted a coyote slowing working his way across the field at about 90 yards.  Never saw me.  Too bad I didn't have my .204.

Evening stand uphill from our turnip plot.  At this point I just wanted to see a deer.  3 yearling bucks walked within 5 yards around 6:10.  Wind switched and they got a whiff of me, but not enough to scare.  Ended up working back my way and offered up more shots.  One of them was legal, but not a shooter.  Just before end of shooting light the one I was waiting for showed up on same trail, but awkward position and no cover prevented me from drawing.  Had him dead at 7 yards, but just couldn't pull back without being seen.  Oh well, at least I didn't spook him.  Also broadside at 35 yards after legal hours.  I got his number though and pretty sure where bedding now.  Managed to sneak out of stand without alerting any.

Don't want to sound like a broken record, but this close encounter with a nice shooter 8 pt is the reason I vertical bow hunt.  With a crossgun this would have been no challenge.  Still don't think there's a difference???

Slow morning, slow evening. But didn't see another hunter. Realizing how fortunate I am to have the areas to hunt that I do.....good luck.

Nothing in the morning. Saw 23 doe in the afternoon before a crossbow hunter came stomping through about a half hour before dark to setup on a nearby field.

Had the grandson out for his first try with the bow. He's killed several bucks and doe as a mentored and junior hunter so thought it was too easy and wanted more of a challenge. He had a big doe see him start the draw and a buck step through the shooting lane before he got drawn. I thing he got what he wanted. He was disapointed but excited and can't wait to try again.
