Here’s a list information, weather and USGS sites to help the uniformed angler make an educated decision on his or her own.

Walnut Water Gauge

Feel free to post what you believe is a good CFS for prime flow and fishing conditions.

From MikeG
The discharge is only one of the many things that will come into play when I state the creeks are "perfect", but is most likely the most important.

I have been paying close attention to this gauge all year, and can tell you that the "best" discharge would be around 70-80 CFS. But I have also found that the best time to fish is during the "drop". When they start dropping I think the fish have had time to adjust and are starting to feed heavily and are on the move.

From deelinsteel
I've been watching these guages for a few years now and can tell you the discharge is the most important, and you can kinda figure it out from looking at it. Just look at the peaks and the lows and you can determine what the flow is like. Over 100 is high, anything lower than that is okay until you get to like the 40's. You should be able to think about it and can figure what other streams in the area would be like too...

Brandy Run Guage

Though this is a small creek but it can be a good tool to gauge the levels of Elk after a storm. In my experience 6 CFS is a low with a little flow, 8-10 is good flow and very fishable. 10-12 can be almost perfect flow and color unless it is rising from rainfall. 12-14 still high but fishable and anything above 14 is pretty much blown out.

Again… feel free to post what you believe is a good CFS for prime flow and fishing conditions.

Good weather site for Erie
IMO more accurate than weather.com and more tools.

Based upon the above data and hopefully the posts that follow you will be able to make a decision on whether or not “It is worth it”.

If you so chose to use it there is a web cam available for now

http://www.unclejohnselkcreekcamp.com/Web%20Cam.htm

Local Bait Shops you can call for current stream conditions

Follys                   814-474-5730
Poor Richards      814-474-5623
BAC                    814-835-0581
East End Angler    814-898-3474

Based upon the above data and hopefully the posts that follow you will be able to make a decision on whether or not “It is worth it” depending on what you determine as fishable.
Another suggestion would be, after you get back from a weekend of fishing, check the gauges and see what the water levels and flows were at. Write it down and keep a notebook perhaps. Then you will have a better bearing on what the conditions are like.

It's 1:08 AM Eastern time. I just pulled up Uncle John's webcam and it's daylight there... and moving... Either there is seriously something wrong with me (which could very well be the case, mind you) or the cams are getting looped... whenever...

no rain yet, windy as all get out... the leaf creel limit has been raised to 23... expect to get that many. water is high and fast on elk compared to a week ago, don't expect it to go down esepecially if we get any rain overnight. waking up at 6 to check the weather, from the looks of it... i'll be sleeping in
