Porktown -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (8/29/2007 1:39:19 PM)

There is a waste water treatment plant right by the lake. When it is overflowed with rain water, raw sewage will leak. Read the signs by the boat launch near the park office. I don't think this happens often, but I'm sure it does happen. I wouldn't worry about it infecting the swimming areas. It is a state park, and most likely goes under the same type of testing that Presque Isle goes through. If the bacteria is up, they'd likely close the beach area. As for the wipers, I'd take them over a glass eyed log fish any day. They dump a ton of those logs into Arthur, per their stocking reports, but don't seem to ever catch them. There are a ton of largemouth in that lake though. The panfish, largemouth, smallmouth, and wipers are enough to keep me happy. Throw a pike or log fish into the mix every so often, and what more could you really ask for? I do understand what you are saying about having to hike for logs though. We have a ton in the rivers here, but who wants to eat them? New Castle has it pretty good though. Arthur right down the road, Shenango & Pymatuning aren't far, trout streams pretty close, and Erie isn't too bad of a hike. You can even hit the Shenango River there, if you really need to catch a fish.
