Top 5 reasons you are right Finster:

5)Sailboats are speeding and getting in the way of your casts
4)20 hp engines on small boats are making too many waves for you to get good vision on your bobbers
3)Pollution.....zebra mussels would get you a major fine, the water is clean dude
2)You fish with bait, try something different
1)There ain't no fish in that lake, not likely.

I have fished there many times, probably not more than most on this board but have had very good luck for bass on artificials every time. Not sure what your idea was to post his string, seems to get a lot of responses.I don't fish live bait because I choose to but would if someone showed me the proper technique to catch more fish.Maybe you are not that skilled at fishing there and should try another lake. From seeing some responses here, lots of people are catching fish.

I didn't have much time for this lake until last year when i rented one of the log cabins and spent a week on the lake getting to know it better then just hitting it once or twice a season with the drive down from Titusville. This was in mid June and my whole family had a blast catching blue gills and perch every day. I caught some nice L/M's and even got in on some of the striper action 3 different nights, but none big enough to keep. Sometimes knowing the lake isn't enough and that is when it becomes fustrating.

Haven't fished the lake much in the previous years either but it seemed every time I would take the boat up their the only thing I would catch were a few blue gills and 1 channel cat...

Will someone give me one reason why saiboats suck. Poloution was another big compaint. Maybe there is too many motor boats.  HA

Maybe theres too many folks blowing around out there not pay attention to thier surroundings . Not to mention the recent extracurricular activities these "saylors" are bringing to the area. That side of the lake is pretty secluded I think I'll stay on South shore where the straight shooters launch.

Going back to the original comment by Finster.  The fish are there dude...put your time in and you will catch them.  In todays society, we seem almost conditioned to believe that everything should come to us so easy.  I have fished Arthur since I was a kid and for various species.  Done quite well, so I have no complaints especially having a nice body of water to fish for various species so close to home.  Although I have not put much time in for walleye there, I know some guys that do and pick up some nice ones....Its not Erie though, don't expect limits consistantly or maybe not ever.  Keep in mind also, walleyes aren't that easy unless you're fishing Erie or some back country lake up in Canada.  You have to put your time in, bottom line.  And if I really want to get some walleyes, I simply head another 45 minutes north to the big pond.  If you know Arthur well, you'll know what to target and what you can catch there on a regular basis...

Finally, I love that people consider it the "Dead Sea".  Its been quite the producer for me over the years...for what?  Thats something you'll just have to find out for yourself...read the boards more too, you'll find out real quick.  Tight Lines.

Oh by the way, Skip, thats alot for posting that article!?!?!?

Us locals call em PA brown trout . You should come try & catch em there always hitting top waters. Best trout fishn statewide . The lake is also inhabited by the tretcherous prospect pee ..... Close your eyes before you go under.

Funny you guys mention Stu...I have known him my whole life.  Sold cars with my dad and was a pole bearer at dad's funeral...they were that close.

Will do.  He has not sold cars in Slippery Rock for well over 10 years now.  He teachs school full time and had been working p/t selling at Grove City Chevy, but I do not think he does that anymore either.

Thanks. We rode our horses alot, before the lake was put in, on the back roads that are now underwater. Pass the church was a lake, Shannon, that we fished for bass in.

Bent,

I didn't know you could rent log cabins there.  Do you have any info or a site that I can go to to check out the cost and what the minimum stay would be?

Thanks Jim

  Moraine State Park
225 Pleasant Vally Road
Portersville,PA 16051-9650
724-368-8811

11 modern cabins, sleeps 6, modern showers/toilets.
Near lake with boat docks available.

Think State parks make you rent for atleast a week from end of May 'till Labor Day.
