Chris,
I didn't see your post here.
Thanks,
Tim

chauncy -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/6/2007 1:05:30 PM)

Yepper. Most of the lake is locked up. Don't know how thick but i saw him from the causeway as i was driving north. I'm sure of what i saw. With this bright sun, if there's less than an inch, it will be gone by this afternoon. Didn't have my camera with me, dangnabitt.

crappiefisher -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/6/2007 8:42:14 PM)

  Tim,

now it's only supposed to get up to 40* on Sun. up this way [sm=eek5.gif]

Hope the PFC can get the 150,000 Hybird fry again this year.

Porktown -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/7/2007 8:34:27 AM)

That sucks.  Weather.com had us at 57* on Sunday, now it's down to 40*.  Warm enough to fish, but not sure it will be warm enough to melt the ice around the edges.  I guess I'll be heading to the river, then Giant Eagle for my fillets...  I do have to make a trip up to the cave soon.  Will have to either stop at the lake, or garuntee my skunk removal at the game lands.  Small fish count too!!!

It appears that the fish interstate transfer thing must be over.  I noticed on the PFBC winter trout stocking, that there are fish from NC being stocked.  The state has to know how popular the wipers have been in Arthur.  Not that many people would quit fishing it, if they weren't stocked.

crappiefisher -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/7/2007 12:41:38 PM)

Now it's down to 36* for a high with a wintery mix [sm=dunno.gif]

A trout stockin will be done over near the cave in a few weeks. Timmy could prob. take you to a farm pond once safe loaded with nice fish if you don't mind ice fishin.   Pa. can buy em but no other states want to take a chance with our fish  [:@]

rippinlip -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/7/2007 7:06:01 PM)

Chris, I am heading to Venango County for last day of deer. I'll holler at ya Sat. night if you still wanna fish Sun. Maybe by my house? Kevin

crappiefisher -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/7/2007 7:23:11 PM)

crappiefisher -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/7/2007 7:41:00 PM)

Are you gonna let me keep a handful of fish? Greg just loves fresh fish [:)]

Tim, she was frozen over on Sun.

rippinlip -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/7/2007 7:43:43 PM)

Sure as long as I can talk you into fryin a few up for me [8D]

cuchef -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/15/2007 3:46:05 PM)

I grew up about 15 minutes from lake arthur.  I havn't fished it in over 10 years.  The lake is a wierd bird, buried road beds, old foundations, artesian wells, graveyards and a lot of getting skunked on what should have been perfect fishing days.  My father and I gave up on the place and started going to the Allegheny river in Kittaning on a regular basis.  About the only thing we caught a lot of were sunfish.  I know there are a lot of fish in that lake I think the number one reason so many people have bad luck it is just too close to Pittsburgh and access is very easy you can leave Pittsburgh and be fishing in an hour.

rippinlip -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/15/2007 4:09:46 PM)

I live about ten minutes away now. It took me years to figure that place out. There are fish there and the lake WILL give em up but you have to know where to go at what time of the year. Being friends with Crappiefishe and his kids does'nt hurt either[:-]. I learned that 90 percent of the fish are in 10 percent of the lake of which the location changes depending on the time of the year. This knowledge has come to me through many fishless trips, a lot of blind luck, and many non fishing hours just cruising the lake with the fish/depth finder on.

startinout -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/15/2007 4:37:07 PM)

I agree ripinlipp,
I definitely caught more fish last year out of there than the 27 years before that combined.  You just gotta try and learn something every time out and keeping a log doesn't hurt either.  I can't wait to see what is in store for next year.  Maybe I can figure out how to catch crappies with regularity.  Life would be good.  Maybe great.

cuchef -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/16/2007 2:18:09 AM)

I know what you are talking about.  I know a few good spots that would hold largemouth at different times of year. One spot that was almost always a sure bet at a muskie who knows maybe we caught the same one several times. Big walleye in that lake. Not the numbers that pymatuning had but definatly the size advantage. There was a man that we ran into one day I was about 14 he changed the way we fished on the lake.  He went by the name "Indian".  He was on the dock at 528 and knew we got skunked.  He immediatly just cast into the lake at the dock and caught probably a 21 inch largemouth.  He got in our boat and we took a little trip.  I think more than the location it is the presentation in that lake.  I would love to fish it with a fly rod.  Since not living in the area for about 12 years now I actually have started thinking more about the lake.  Since leaving
I have picked up fly fishing. I grew up fishing but only in the last couple years fly fishing.  Its only downfall its so damned expensive.  My rod and reel that I catch 1 pound trout with cost 3x what my rod and reel to catch 200 pound sharks in the Carribean did.  I can say I would love to fish the lake with a fly rod.  Something tells me hardly anyone has ever tried fishing there with a fly rod.  I know the mentality Fly fishing=trout  Trout in PA= crap fish that the commission stock to please masses that fish three days a year in early april that you fish for with corn and marshmallows.  You would be surprised how bass and northen pike especially react to flies granted 6-10 inch long flies but same process.  Gotta give moraine another shot.

rippinlip -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/16/2007 11:12:47 AM)

A log....good idea...I think Crappiefisher's son Timmy does that and it could save you some time as far as trying to pattern the fish.Cuchef, I think Stillhead uses a flyrod for Stripers there.I know what you mean by missing the lake. I was guilty of taking it for granted for a while. I was spending a lot of time and money going to Lake Nippissing in Canada and talked to a guy fishing there and HE heard of Lake Arthur and asked me why I came all the way to Canada to fish with that in my back yard. I told him to Pike fish. They consider Pike trash fish or a nuisance in Canada. I consider em a RUSH when they whack a buzzbait!

Jigmaster1 -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/16/2007 11:36:19 AM)

Arther doesn't suck!!! If you can't catch fish there maybe it's you. I wish I was back home to fish this winter. Ice fishing Arther ROCKS. So many fish so little time... Put, your time in and you will find fish... That's why 10% of fishermen catch 90% of the fish. The other 90% are bitching that they can't catch fish and the other 10% are out doing it.

cuchef -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/16/2007 12:35:38 PM)

I did catch fish there and more importantly I have a ton a good memories on that lake, more than any other body of water.  I live in the finger lakes area now where trout of all kind are king.  Cayuga the lake I live on has a good pike fishery.  I miss lake Arthur and would like to go back to fish it.  I'll do that in the spring.  What does a non-resident liscense go for these days?

creel -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/16/2007 12:42:18 PM)

cuchef Annual license is $51 and the Combination Trout and Erie Stamp is $15

cuchef -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/16/2007 12:55:22 PM)

Wow a drivers liscence in less expensive than a non-res fishing. I wonder what new york gets for out of staters.

traveler -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/16/2007 3:16:13 PM)

anatikus10 -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/16/2007 10:16:27 PM)

yea, you all just keep thinking arthur sucks.....spread the word even....maybe it'll keep some of the wannabees' out of my way.....iv'e got the knowledge, and know the secrets....so just keep callin' it the dead sea....thats fine with me.

muskefisher -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/17/2007 1:29:29 AM)

Arthur is a tough lake, spent many fishless days, but I have also caught my largest muskie, northern, walleye, lm bass, and channel cat out of there, while muskie fishing.  Also caught a 12" bluegill while walleye fishing this summer, so the fish are there.  You just have to keep plugging away and hope you hit a day their hungry.

rippinlip -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/17/2007 5:26:20 PM)

You're right about that. I don't get a lot of walleyes....maybe because I don't target them much, but when I do get one it's allways a nice one.

keneyeam -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/18/2007 9:29:42 PM)

1) So far from my house.
2) HP restriction no one follows but me.
3) Hook marks on LMB from Wednesday Tx's.
4) many big muskies.
5) Millions of alwives.

crappiefisher -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/19/2007 3:18:32 AM)

  Kevin,

Timmy sold me his 16'er, so maybe we will be able to get out for some birds & cats some spring nights? I know cattin isn't your thing but I'll try my best to change that [sm=brow2.gif] Hope to be on the 6 - 2:30 shift purdy soon. Got 2 boat reg. forms in the mail I gotta send in & gotta reg. two others yet. Timmy is lookin for a bass boat so if you see any under 2 grand lEtT meE knOW/:

That was funny you brought up his fishin log becauce he was goin through it Sat. night, taken notes & couldn't find July tru Sept., he had over 200 bass outta Arthur by then. He marks down the times, weather cond., sizes of fish & lures he got em on. He bought 2 bass outfits last night at Dick's. I told him he better save for his boat from now on. Wanna hit Dick's this weekend/?... Gotta get some more stockin stuffers. Might give ice'n a try this year a couple times, you up for it?/.. Stocked up on the Pike lures & leaders a few weeks ago. Man that reminds me of Canada down there when the thaw starts. Stop over & get some of those Rapala's, O/k?/..

Arthur Bites!! you Know?

rippinlip -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/19/2007 6:58:15 PM)

Looks like I'm getting the property next to me. I called my mortgage co. to get a loan for it and found out if I refinance I'll go down a point so I won't even feel it if I buy it.I'll check my truck maybe Timmy left his log in there??? Gotta be worth a few bucks to him...no????

startinout -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/19/2007 8:08:59 PM)

Talking about nice walleyes, did anyone catch many, or any, sublegal walleyes in Arthur last year.  We caught none.  All were 17 inches+.  I'm hoping it was just where and when we were catching them and not a sign that there's a missing class or two.

Okuma_Slv_Fan -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/19/2007 8:18:08 PM)

ive fished arthur for several years from shore and always seemed to have good luck on smallies and cats... this past year I bought my first boat and after about 3 months of on and off days i picked up a 40" muskie, some nice walleyes, and some really decent striper although I have yet to keep a striper...... In this coming spring im hoping to try and get into the crappies itll be a first for them

DanesDad -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/19/2007 10:35:58 PM)

I think that the guys who think Arthur sucks aren't putting the time in to get to know the lake.  The problem is that too many of us (me included) are frittering our lives away on such trivial things as work to give fishing the proper amount of attention and time.
