Dead sea like keystone power dam dead sea and the state will not step in and hear our complaints and do something.  I bet if we all stop buying fishing lic, They would get off there --- real quick.

OK..... i guess Arthur is great for CARP and catfish...... Who want's them though?

I do (carp that is).  Problem is, the few times that I've fished Arthur, I only get mostly catfish.  Now I don't mind catching cats if they are bigger (10+ lbs.), but anything smaller than that, gets old after awhile. C&R only.

I remember when jb posted the pic of his 35 lber. that he mentioned------- that's about the nicest carp I've seen pulled from a W. PA water.

Years ago, friends of mine owned a pay lake in Mars, PA.  On Mars- Valencia RD. I could go there with a can of corn and catch carp all day. Almost every one over 3 feet long. I was just a kid back then and my arms would be sore the next day from reeling all those fish in. However, to my knowledge, that lake does not exist anymore. I think it was filled in and has homes there now. What a shame but believe me, those fish did fight well on 10lb test and were always a blast to catch.

There was a paylake that you could get to off the Zelionople exit of I-79 called Sea Lakes-----don't know if this is the same one as the one you are thinking of.  By the time I figured out exactly where this paylake was, it was closed, but the upper pond, basically a puddle, still had some carp in it.

 You are exactly right there Finster, Lake Arthur Sucks !!! And for all of us that live within a couple miles of that stinkhole, we would greatly praise your efforts in keeping that notion alive and well out there in that rust belt ghetto in Lawrence Co. where you reside. So for you & all your cohorts which would rather sit behind your keyboards & complain about a body of water that learning how to fish that body of water, my suggestion to you is to buy a jar of power bait, get your lawn chair & wait for the the big white truck to pump out your trophy fish at Bessemer or Hereford Manor & leave us on Arthur alone to our own misery. In fact , alot of us think Arthur sucks too. My personel top 5 reasons would be:
5. Pontoon rentals to those who have NO CLUE what they are doing.
4. Under-powered & over loaded boats that throw a bigger wake from barging that my boat ever did with a 20hp that can get on plane.
3. Pollution? Maybe from all the empty styrofoam worm containers & empty pop bottles one can see floating around.
2. Those who can't back their trailer in without 14 pull ups then can't at least park their vehicle straight in the lot.
1. Those who believe that directly in front of the launch is the place to get their boat ready to come or go and those who can't launch or load their boat without it being a major undertaking involving the entire crew with half of them getting wet. Thus tieing up the ramp for those of us that have fish to catch instead of laughing at those idiots.
Those are just a few of my reasons to believe Lake Arthur sucks. Spoonchucker & Streamwalker, feel free to chime in anytime now.In fact I was just down there this beautiful Sunday AM & look at those mutated perch I caught. This lake sucks!!! [:'(]

Oh by the way, if you really wanted to get an earful,you should of posted that crock of crap on the Southwest board.
But being from New Castle, we understand you probably get confused real easy.

spoonchucker -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (9/2/2007 5:49:29 PM)

Yes, Arthur is definately the dead sea. I personally wouldn't bother spending more than a 75-100 days a year fishing it.

Dream Catcher -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/5/2007 9:52:04 AM)

Agreed . Before you judge a body of water you should first take time to learn how to fish it . Nice stripers . Although I've seen the average size of striped bass decreasing over the past 6 years ; they can still be caught consistently if you invest yourself to learn how. Musky fishing is nothing short of spectacular.

SmallieKiller -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/5/2007 1:02:02 PM)

Only hybrid I've ever caught on my flyrod was there, so who knows, maybe there are fish in there...

I've caught veru few fish out of there, but the ones I have caught were all big, so take that for what it's worth.

Of course I also grew up fishing mainly moving water.  Put one Steelhead in a mile stretch of stream and I'll find him.  Put 100,000 fish in a square mile of lake and I'm dumbfounded.

TransAmWS6 -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/5/2007 4:43:20 PM)

i have fished lake arthur a few times with little luck, i need just some time there and ill figure it out

CAPTAIN HOOK -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/5/2007 5:01:08 PM)

We paid our dues but we have a technique that finally works. All released ! Good luck ! They are there !

traveler -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/5/2007 5:26:50 PM)

Esox_Hunter I agree with most of what you say except the stocking, Pymie is totally depended on the walleye stockings, the steelhead fishery & the state trout streams are solely maintained by the the state stocking program. I do believe a lot of the musky fishing in the state is maintained at a good level by by stocking. I think fisherman need to learn to change there style & approach as the lakes change all bodies of water have there natural ups & downs. Pymie is a perfect example, Musky, Bass & Crappie fishing have been very good, walleye fishing has been off. For many who have changed (even with the low walleye population the past few years) the walleye have still been there.

Esox_Hunter -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/5/2007 11:19:42 PM)

Well if you look at it that way just about every fishery in the state is heavily dependent upon stocking.  Especially our walleye fisheries, as limited as they are.  It just seems the returns from the walleye stocked in Arthur are sub-par.  There never seems to be any sort of class structure on the lake, I have yet to see a walleye caught there in the under 16" range.  Im no biologist but I would assume that healthy year classes represent a healthy fishery.  Overall, it appears that the number of walleye in the lake is relatively low.  These are nothing more than my observations from the time I have spent on the lake.  But, the muskies are everywhere up there...and that is what im typically after up there.  Perhaps all the bass, wipers, northerns, cats, and muskies create too much competition for the eyes, not to mention any of the above will feast on freshly stocked eyes.

Anyone know if there is ice on the coves?  Looking to get out on Sunday prior to the Stiller game and enjoy the mid 50s forecasted.  Hopefully bring home a snack.  I've got a skunk that I need to release out there too...[sm=anon.gif]  Although, planning to keep fish, I might as well save myself a trip...

crappiefisher -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/6/2007 12:45:33 PM)

my bait tank is frozen over. The ponds have a thin layer also. I'll post how Muddycreek arm is lookin on Sat.

Porktown -> RE: Top 5 reasons Lake Arther SUCKS! (12/6/2007 12:48:41 PM)

Chauncy,
You mean, walking on the ice?  I meant, if there was ice to keep me from casting from shore.  I take it, there is at least a skim coating already?
Thanks,
PT
