Hey guys, I'm off at school and cant fish these lakes.  Just out of curiosity, I was wondering if any one is regularly targeting or catching muskies at Tamarack, woodcock, pymy, conneaut, etc.  Not askin' for spots or anything, but would like to know size, casting/trolling, and what bait?  hoping to hear of some fall beasts being caught soon.  Shoot me a PM or discuss here. thanks!

Tamarack's been bad all year, everyone I've talk too hasn't caught much, but one guy told me he caught one with redspot.  my buddy fished it about ten times and only caught one fish.  Woodcock has been hit or miss. good one trip, nothing the next.  pymatuning was good in the spring and continues to produce fish. Haven't fished Conneaut yet but will probably hit there in October.

tamarack is so frustrating because it has so much potential with the biologist reports.  if you're casting, be sure to figure 8 EVERY time!!!! always pay attention, cause one day after about 5 hours of non stop casting.. midday I wasn't paying attention one this particular reel in and there was a musky just RIGHT behind my bait... spent another 4-5 hours and nothing!!!    It's such a dark stained lake that you there may be one trailing behind lazy and you might not be able to see it.

I had 3 chasers at Conneaut Wednesday no hookups. Landed 2 legal Pike very cloudy day. The water was crystal clear.

Musky?  any size to em?  It seemed recently that the musky population in conneaut is being taking over by the pike/bowfin.  I was out on conneaut one time this past summer just going for pike action after like 8 hours of casting a double ten bucktail at tamarack with nothing.. and I saw a really nice sized musky just chilling in about 4-5 feet of water near the docks.  It was awesome.. pulled around and it was gone =(

I'm already starting to plan a trip to some NW lake over thanksgiving, given that there's no ice and the weather allows it.  I want to know your guys' opinion on my plan of attack.  I have experience at Tamarack, but only know a couple 'spots'.. muskies there seem to roam around and literally could be in any place at any  time.  Moving slow and fan casting the area is what I normally do.  I've never been on Pymie, but I plan on it this spring/summer.  The big water has intimidated me musky fishing, and I don't really know that lake much.  I'm more of a fan of casting rather than trolling too.

Given that I can go over the week of Thanksgiving, what lake would you suggest and techniques for musky with it most likely being super cold.  I'm thinking big profiled baits for sure with it being fall/winter.  Double 10's? Big Jerkbaits?  Slow/fast?  Locations?  Won't be much weeds to go after, should I target open water musky with trolling?  Send me a PM or post - I'd really appreciate it.  Either way - I'll just chat about musky fishing too, I'm all about it.

I'd throw gliders and bulldawgs that time of year. Fish them slow and steady and if your not getting any action try speeding them up. Although im no expert, IMO trolling would probably be the better bet for action especially that time of year.

Avid's right- Slow it down this time of year- Bulldawg's, gliders, jerkbaits, big swimbaits.
Most experts will tell you things like: look for dropoffs & find the baitfish in the fall, look for Suspending muskies over deeper water, & trolling is the best thing because it covers the most water.

BUT we know with muskies you never know for sure- yesterday I got 2, 30" & 40"- In 6 ft water near the shore while casting a slower bait, so make sure you have time & patience to work the whole lake.
