STAY AWAY!  Hit pymy.  Trolled my ass around the lake, managed one striper 14"er.  One decent hit on the roadbed.  Trolled Hot n' Tots, Rapalas jointed mainly, reef runners, and worm harnesses.  Caught everything but a bass and walleye.  Everything was a dink!  Bluegill engorged my last hook in my worm harness.  Never thought a bluegill would take a worm harness, but go figure.

i think im going to have to ive been hearing how good the striper bite is and this is 2 trips in a row with no stripers or walleye just a couple bass n blue gills. What boat launch did you use? i used mcdanels on the north shore. and had to drive all the way 2 the 422 bridge and started there

Sunday was a nice day to be on a lake too (overcast, slight breeze), too bad it's the lake of the DEAD SEA!  I'm sure the eyes have plenty of alewife fry to consume.  And their probably just laying around waiting for the change in weather.  River probably would of been a better bet for us.  Was down at Neville today, water was calm and clear.  Just didn't bring my rods...wife won't allow it.

I was there sunday.  Twisted up 20 new harnesses for the trip too...  Did not lose a single one.  They need to put in more structure in my opinion...I didn't lose a single lure or harness.  Kinda hard to believe.  Reef runners can run 20 feet too...Go figure

Sunday I trolled, tried to drift but to calm, jig, spinners, cranks, swimbaits and crawlers. Hit weed beds, road beds, lilly's, stumps and trees. 9 hours on the lake, 6 small, and i mean small, gills. Only reason i caught those was cause i threw in the towel and fished for them for the last hour. DEAD SEA! The only luck iv'e had at this lake that fish forgot, is offshore with minnows and some rubber craws carolina style. Beat the hell outa workin though...

Don't lose hope guys.  Last week sucked for us.  Couldn't even get a gill on the roadbed.  Yesterday started out the same way, and then had a flurry just after 6 PM with a bunch of gills and ended up with three nice keeper walleyes.  Doing nothing special.  SLOW trolled/drifted the roadbed with a worm and an egg sinker.  Gonna try again momentarily.  Hope I don't get struck by lightning.

I order mine from basspro.com . They have all the colors and sizes you want. Plus they are cheaper. All the places around here, ****s and the local bait shops are so depleted, you can't get the colors you want.

If you know what you want I'd order them, ****s is a crap shoot and your gonna pay the highest price available.  I actually bought some at the outdoors sportsman convention in Pittsburgh this past Feb, or Jan.  Can't remember - they were 5 for $20.  I picked up ten, I hope i find reef runners 800 series that cheap someday.  800's like wood, and find every little branch around.

Your best bet is to search them all at this time of year. ****s, Bass Pro, Cabelas, baitshops, etc. I was just at ****s in boardman a week or two ago. Very little selection and very pricey. Just depends what colors ya want really. Id start with Bass Pro.

Dan was last night and  It surely does not suck a friend and I landed several stripers and a pile of bass. I guess you need to what lures/bait to use how and most importantly where to find these fish and they are there!! It turns into a trail and error. If your not sure where to fish use a top map and find deep to shallow pionts and creek beds and that will lead to the fish, Or you could fish the slop, pads  and catch as many bass as feel the need for. I'll throw ya one use a spro frog

Lakes overturn in the fall not summer. When the surface temp gets colder than the deeper water, the bottom (warmer water)rises to the surface causing a "TURNOVER". It only happens once a year.

Just curious, you guys that fish the sunken railroad & roadbed on Lake Arthur--how do you stay on the contours? I have a paper copy of the HotSpot Map for Arthur and have fished the lake for years without ever being able to pinpoint the exact locations. Though secondhand information and talking to guys that do well on the Lake, you cannot deviate off these locations if you want to catch fish.

The other day I bought the HotSpot Northeast Chip for my Lowrance 525 w/gps, & Lake Arthur is one of the 12 lakes in PA included! So needless to say I am excited about getting back out there! No more guess work, no more wasting endless hours searching to find the exact contour. If I can't get the location right now & catch a few fish I guess I never will on that Lake.

(Now everyone will know to stay away[or is that follow along] from the 19' Red Deep-V Ranger w/ a 9.9 mounted up to my 150 out back if you see me out on the Lake, haha...)

we always used points of reference and a depth finder.  Usually if the lines weren't dragging we knew we were off of it.

I've caught a lot more fish off the roadbeds than I have on them though.

I have the Navionics for the same reason.  Beware, the older versions are not callibrated correctly.  400 yards directly to the north...  A home made template worked for a while, but all of my waypoints were then set for the template.  Navionics will work with you on resolving (I'm sure FHS will do the same if off).  It's still only a reference.  You'll need to keep your eye on the depthfinder, and mark waypoints when it is obviously off.  For this type of fishing, the chartplotter maps are real time savers.

I can't say that staying on will catch you fish though...  I've had times were I was dead on for hours without a strike.  But, at that point, you at least don't get frustrated that you are searching for the structure, as I had wasted hours doing before.

If the fishing is slow, it makes things much more interesting too.  You can cruise around and mark interesting things you see.  Any GPS is good for that though.  The maps give you an idea "why" certain things are there, or if there are likely a few other goodies close by.  Not to mention, taking the guess work away from getting to certain places that a paper map just doesn't do (300 yards and 330 yards from shore is pretty hard to determine from a boat).  I love paper maps though.  More for the days that I am not fishing, and planning my attack.  There's just something about the strategic aspect of fishing.

I think the majority of fish are right off of the road beds waiting to ambush (per my depth finder when I start going astray...).  If their hungry and you drag something in their strike zone, even better!
