Hello everyone! Hope the summer is going along quite nice for everyone. I would like to ask a question regarding a river/stream that flows thru the Apollo, Leechburg, Vandergrift area. I am looking for good access points for both wading and kayaking. I wish not to learn any secret spots. I am willing to do the leg work on my own. I would just like areas that would be good to access this stream/river? I have heard nothing but good reports about this system making a great come back!If someone would like to meet me to show me some of these areas, that is fine too! We could explore and fish. Anyone that could help, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again!

These are the places that I know of for wading.

Starting at Apollo you can get to the river from the trail that's at the end of Canal Road. From the traffic light at the end of the bridge go past Patrick's Pub and Mosey Inn staying to the right the whole way back to the end of the road. From there walk the trail.

Across the Apollo bridge turn right and you can park there and walk down to the river.

Back on the Apollo side turn left onto Rt 56/66 (Warren Ave). At the first light is the Vandergrift bridge. You can get to the river in that area but I'm not sure where.

Staying on Rt 66 (River Road) across from the drive-in and bowling alley is a good place to fish.

Following the road on down to Leechburg. River Road turns into Market St. At the end turn right and make a left at the light. There are some rapids behind the supermarket.

For kayaking there are a few outfits that rent canoes and kayaks from Saltsburg to Leechburg. Am sure most, if not all, will provide shuttle service. You would have to call to find out for sure.

There is one in Saltsburg, can't remember the name of it.
Also some of the towns along the river have a boat ramp or access to put a boat in.

I live in Oklahoma. So I could show you around.

That trail in Apollo is the Roaring Run Trail.  It's pretty good fishin from where Roaring Run empties into the Kiski down to the trail's parking lot.  That stretch is a few miles long so it makes for a nice day trip.  Have yet to fish there this year but it was a good spot for me last summer.
