Until Perry's record is broken east of California, where the fish aren't force-fed stocked trout, it will be the record to me. I've fished Castaic and some of those other Cali reservoirs and its total BS. Its a tiny lake and they put truckloads of 10 inch rainbows in the lakes for largemouths to gorge themsleves on. Its no different than if you had your own pond and hand-fed the catfish whole chickens every day. That is what they do with those lakes in Japan, as well. Bogus record.

"The Department of Fish and Game stock both the upper and the lower lakes (Castaic) with Rainbow Trout from October through March with an estimated combined total of 40,000 pounds per season."

They are food. Nobody fishes that lake for trout.

That doesn't mesh with the article's comments I've read though. That is one of the oldest lakes in the world and the bass are considered a nuisance species there. I don't think they're trying to plump their bass there to beat records, might be wrong...

Here's a pic of the bass if you wanted to skip the F&S article:

It is! Isn't that wild? Fortunately they didn't goby bounce this one off the boat and leave it for the seagulls :)

The other thing is that Japan considers largemouth bass to be an invasive species and the bass are taken out and eaten! The restaurant on this particular lake serves largemouth bass on its menu!
....
In recent years Japanese officials have reacted to concerns by commercial fishermen there and tried to eliminate invasive species from Biwa, and black bass, or largemouth bass, are on that list of invasives. An unconfirmed report indicates that a 25-pound largemouth bass may have been netted by one of the commercial fishermen. The Lake Biwa Museum Restaurant serves largemouth bass on its menu.
The previous Japanese bass record weighed 19.15 pounds and was caught by Kazuya Shimada from Lake Ikehara on April 22, 2003, on a swimbait.

Dude..Bull.....LMFAO....You crack me up........

Boro...It would be hard to goby bounce a 25lb bass off the swim platfrom...Probably rip the platform off...Might have to reinforce if that's the case...I dunno..I haven't caught and gobies over 9" that hit the swim platform and she's still standin so???
