haha, yeah I have seen those sold in stores recently.  They charge like 10 or 12 dollars for them.  They are a cane fishing pole.  Old school style I guess.....

Tank,
Yep! About 50 years old. They made a lot of them in the 50-s as panfish rigs. No reel seat, no guides just tie a line to the end and dip for fish.

I watched dudes on the southern coast of Spain fish with rigs like that. No reels...was really somethin' to watch.

Cool pics Tank.

Good for panfish, just tie your line to the end. You can use it to fish pocket water in weed beds. Just drop it straight down in the hole and you'll catch panfish. You can also use a float w/with too. My kids have used them B4. and they work fine. You just gotta make sure your length of line is as long as the rod or a little shorter. When you lift out of the water the fish swings right to you. But if you hook a good size bass, you got a problem, no reel ='s no drag and your line can snap off. But the rod is long enough to absorb the stress & put good pressure on the fish so you might have a chance !

Last Spring when the water was high at Pymatuning I watched a guy dipping flooded bushes with a long cane pole. He would stick the rod in through the bushes to an open pocket of water, come out with a crappie just about every time.

Cool!

These would be cool to use on one of the native streams I fish.  So dense with mt. laurel you are usually crawling and dipping your line off the bank.  Roll casting at times is not even an option.
