Mr.Slickfish -> Dangerous Weekend (7/2/2009 7:23:06 AM)

This year Erie will have another fireworks display on the bay. This is the busiest boating weekend of the year. Unfortunately, A good number of boaters are hammered this weekend, the 4th of july weekend definitely pulls the drunks, and the amateur boaters out. Remember not everyone driving a boat should be. Some don't know about "right of way rules", some are too hammered to notice. This applies to the streets as well. Please use cation and drive defesively. Good luck!

Good idea slick.  What you stated is the prime reason I don't even bother getting the boat out of the garage durring the holliday weekends.  Way too many morrons out there for my taste.

mikeg -> RE: Dangerous Weekend (7/2/2009 8:35:41 AM)

This is one of 2 times I don't go out in the boat.....
Too many knuckelheads for me!

Big Fathead -> RE: Dangerous Weekend (7/2/2009 8:51:20 AM)

Keep the fish cops phone number on hand. Don't be afraid to call them when you observe boat drivers drinking. I have no problem making a call to possibly save a life!

jrm45 -> RE: Dangerous Weekend (7/2/2009 8:53:48 AM)

agreed with all 3 statements above! wont catch me on the water!

MackJ -> RE: Dangerous Weekend (7/2/2009 10:44:13 AM)

I think it is wise for people who use the lake very often to choose to stay away on days when others are likely to want to get on for a once a year or so outing.  I would like to see this same logic employed during steelhead season in regard to the creeks.  [8D]

Mr.Slickfish -> RE: Dangerous Weekend (7/2/2009 10:53:43 AM)

Actually Mack...That's something a few of us do. When we (locals) know we'll be swamped with yinzers, we stay home or fish lesser known/lesser pressured areas.

WHile I enjoy most of the company I've come across, I feel like it's almost my responsibility as an angler to leave that hole for someone who drove X number of hours to whack a few. I have other spots, and other days to fish...some don't.

Yes, like those folks coming all the way up from Mercer, PA. [:D]

Slick,
I couldn't agree more. I have spots get get very little pressure but hold less fish. On days i know the creeks will be slammed, or days i want to be alone, i go to those spots. I know a lot of "locals" who complain about all the out of area visitors. I for one, enjoy meeting new people as well as seeing the inpact they have on our economy.

You guys obviously haven't been to walnut creek launch on a Saturday morning when three or four people post that they hammered walleye in front of walnut on the reports page.....Crazy is an understatement....

Raab -> RE: Dangerous Weekend (7/2/2009 1:49:04 PM)

I call Poor Richards and ask where are the walleye?

then I go someplace else......

deetz4352 -> RE: Dangerous Weekend (7/2/2009 8:55:09 PM)

Slick great post!!  especially for those who dont use their noodle (brain) very well.

Thanks for the reminder.

I go boating to fish.  I dont go boating for recreation. I only have time for fishing in my boat.

Mr.Slickfish -> RE: Dangerous Weekend (7/2/2009 9:18:59 PM)

I don't enjoy "boating" either. Boating is our codeword for skunked.

Mountian Man -> RE: Dangerous Weekend (7/2/2009 10:00:33 PM)

I thought "carcus" was your code word for skunked? [&:]

Another weekend where I avoid the state parks and bodies of water instead of dealing with the yahoo's (maybe I'll hit a few private ponds and float some bread for carp)

BloodyHand -> RE: Dangerous Weekend (7/2/2009 10:06:16 PM)

Nothin like watchin them ther fire works from the bay. I suggest, if you cant get on a boat, or are worried about drunk boaters, to go to the Peninsula and watch them from there. Awesome Sight! I heard this display is gonna top em all.

Raab -> RE: Dangerous Weekend (7/3/2009 12:27:24 PM)

" I heard this display is gonna top em all. "

they say that every year....
maybe it will last a whole 5 minutes this year...
